History
Established in 2001.
Once upon a time there was a very good recreational dance studio focusing on the year end recital. The owner retired in 2000 & the Assistant Artistic Director, Leslie Dee, took over leadership. She wanted the studio to be more & started on a journey.
There were several challenges along the way. An imminent domain that did not go well. A new facility that presented challenges when the building was sold.
During all this time she took a loyal following of students to higher & higher levels of artistry & training. Created champion dancers & students who have gone on to professional dance careers. Through every challenge she never lost sight of the goal of making a students’ dance dreams come true step by step. The number of dancers who have started with the studio as toddlers & remained to become truly remarkable young adults is amazing.
Today Art of the Dance Academy has a state of the art facility in the Noho Arts District servicing all four sectors of the dance school industry.
Meet the Business Owner
Leslie D.
Business Owner
The Artistic Director, Miss Leslie, began making her dance dreams come true at 2. Step by step this lead to training for a career at San Francisco Ballet. On a whim she auditioned for a modern dance company & fell in love with the freedom & passion of modern. Instead of dancing in pointe shoes she danced barefoot with Martha Graham Dance Company & Jose Limon.
When her professional career was over, she returned to the Valley & began teaching until opportunity knocked. The former owner retired & she took over in 2001.
When she began teaching, she went back to college to ensure that she was learning the craft of her new profession, dance teacher. This made her a well trained professional dancer with years of teaching experience & a degree in dance education.
All this experience & training has gone into the design of dance programs that will bring a love of dance, amazing technique & artistry to all students. Her student’s joy is her passion & their future her priority.
