From my first appointment years ago… Best Bay Area Hair Experience! I watched Artistic Mastery in action, first at a consult a week ago and again today, prior to my own appointment. Clientele, each with their own unique style, left happily with Eric Ringo’s card in their hand indicating their next appointments. When it was my turn for subtle transformation I was treated to someone who confirmed to me, my wish list exactly! A great sign of a true listener. I would not be disappointed. You are An Artist and a Gentleman, my husband loves«my new look».and so do I… See you in 6 weeks Eric! March 2016. Going on three years… the drive from Tahoe is worth the result for myself and my husband too! Eric’s calendar is usually very full, it is easy to see why! A visit to this one on one, wisteria ensconced, salon is also a chance to treat ourselves to some great conversation and Paul Mitchell products too.

I have been going to Eric for 5+ years and he does an excellent job. I always enjoy the good conversation and his attention to getting my hair right. After all, I have a wife who gets final approval on my haircut, and Eric has never let me/her down!

Eric is really good at what he does, amazing color and cuts. However, the thing that impresses me the most is that he is constantly evolving. He’s very open to new ideas and techniques. As a result, he is always learning and improving. He is passionate about his craft and it shows. Eric knows my hair better than I do. Eric also knows that I have no interest in spending a lot of time styling my hair and he respects that. I trust him. When I get in his chair, my requests are simple: refresh my layers, keep it longish and cover my grays. I leave the rest up to him. Two hours later, my hair is shiny, my color is rich and the cut flatters my facial features and my hair type. I feel polished, sexy and stylish. Eric has done it again. His magic is real. Other highlights of my experience at Hair at Eric Ringo’s include: I enjoy the calm atmosphere at Eric’s. He usually has some jazz playing in the background. He also typically has a floral arrangement that he puts together from flowers from his garden. Depending on the weather, Eric may offer a complementary cold bottle of water, a glass of his iced sun tea or a cup of hot herbal tea. He has nice black robes that you can change into, in case you are worried about your clothes. It’s blissfully quiet. I don’t hear conversation bleed through from other clients which is a big plus since he is a one man shop. He has a great selection of magazines. I’m still requesting that he offer People but that hasn’t happened yet. His salon is located on a side street so parking is easy and free, unless the farmers market is happening, then all bets are off. He has excellent shampooing skills. He has great hands. I live for his scalp massage. I feel so relaxed afterwards. He uses and sells great hair products. His salon is a Paul Mitchell Focus salon which means he carries a complete line of Paul Mitchell products which includes the MITCH line for men which my boyfriend loves. My three must have products include: After-Sun Replenishing Masque as my year round conditioner from the sun line, Awapuhi Wild Ginger shampoo and Super Skinny serum which I use prior to blow drying. They leave my hair and my young daughter’s hair soft and healthy and smelling wonderful. You know how there’s always a girl that has great smelling hair? Yup, that would be us and we get compliments on it all the time. He’s good about giving tips how to take care of my color treated hair at home and easy styling tips. He knows I hate to spend time on my hair so he makes it so easy for me to have gorgeous hair with little to no effort on my part. Woo hoo! Eric’s prices are quite fair. I usually pick up a product or two after my appointment which is every six weeks. The schedule he keeps me on is perfect for my hair and budget. He accepts checks and cash but he told me that he is setting up Square so he will be able to accept debit and credit cards soon. Since he is a one man shop, no need to worry about tipping several people. Eric’s personality is funny. He always has some joke, anecdote or story for me when I see him. Most are groaners so I tell him not to quit his day job. His personal style is all rock and roll: trendy shredded jeans, rock shirts, and Nikki Sixx-esque hair. He has a penchant for rock music, electric guitar, margaritas, eating healthy and working out. He looks like he fell out of a rock band’s tour bus in the middle of the über conservative downtown Los Altos. Yes, he may look out of place in Los Altos but there is no denying that this man has some serious skills. He’s a pro and an artist. His clientele is varied but they include Silicon Valley professionals, mature and younger clients, male and female. Give him a chance. I’m glad I did.

My husband has been seeing Eric for several years and has been very happy. I just had my latest style done by Eric and I am thrilled! He is a dedicated Paul Mitchell Salon, and brimming with ideas. Eric is energizing, positive and easy to work with. I felt comfortable and excited about the styling process and love the results! The next client raved about my color and style as we were leaving!

Eric is a great stylist. I had color, cut and style and loved the results when I left the shop. Eric showed me how great my hair could look by using a flat iron, thank you Eric! He is personable, friendly and has great ideas. Also, his shop has a great vibe and a convenient location.

I went in for a consultation asking to have my roots done and highlights ‘toned’ to make them less brassy. Eric said, «No problem! I’ll cover the roots and add some honey/gold warmth to your hair.» Great! I was excited. A couple of days later after my appointment, I left Eric’s salon with bright red/orange hair(picture the Joker from Batman), two and a half hours of my time gone, and over $ 100 poorer. It took me several more hours, and hundreds of dollars, with a competent colorist to color correct my hair. Is Eric a nice guy? Sure. Is he a well trained, experienced hair colorist? Unfortunately for me, absolutely not.

Eric has been cutting my hair for a few years now and has been consistently skilled, inspiring and the monthly appointments are a lot of fun! Eric always has fresh ideas and is a real artisan who truly cares about extending his art as well as working with the customer. I’d recommend Eric to any guy who wants to take some more bold steps in their appearance. Eric works collaboratively with me and my wife and is well worth the wait!

Just updating my review, since I posted the original one in 2007! I’ve continued to have Eric do my hair — cut and color. Obviously, I think he’s great since I keep coming back for years and years. I always recommend him to anybody who is looking for an excellent colorist. He was also great during my pregnancy, when I didn’t want my hair colored, keeping my style current, even if my color wasn’t.

Eric is absolutely as good as it gets. Hair is not just a job for him. Not many have attained the level he has at his craft. What keeps me coming back is the way he involves you in what he’s doing. Clearly Eric is an artist, and he could certainly get away with quite a bit of arrogance. But his attitude is great — he listens, works with you, and explains what he’s doing and why. Anyone who spent an hour watching me write code at a computer would learn a lot less about programming than Eric teaches his clients. He is committed to his craft and always thinking of ways to improve, grow his business, and staying current with trends. It’s funny that someone as trendy really provides the great and timeless barber shop banter that Eric does. Prices for a men’s cut aren’t too bad considering and his prices on Paul Mitchell products are also very reasonable. I can’t recommend his service enough.

Eric Ringo was awesome. Any older men that are shy about talking about grey/white hairs and wanted to do something about it, Eric is the one you want to talk to and work with. He Patiently listened to my concerns and came up with an alternate solution than what I thought I wanted and it worked out perfectly. For any older men that are thinking of getting the gray out of your hair, I would highly recommend Eric Ringo.

Eric is the most inspired, kind, and artistic hairdresser I have ever had. He’s the ONLY person I’ve ever trusted enough to sit in that chair and just say, do whatever you want. It always comes out fabulous. Plus, he’s got great customer service and is an overall great guy.

Eric is a hidden gem of a hair stylist. I have long, naturally wavy, dark blond hair that inspires most cutters to try and prove their creative talents, regardless of what I asked for. Not so Eric: he really listens to what I want, understands(!!), makes great suggestions, and never takes off more than I asked for. Plus, he’s funny, caring, and so refreshing that I’m always happy not just with my hair, but also just for having spent time with him. If you’ve got a bad hair day, he’s your man!

One of the worst High-lites I’ve ever had!!! Not only did he not listen to what I wanted, but the high-lites were inconsistent with color, and everything else. I had multiple colors in my hair– and to top it off, I walked out with YELLOW half chunk, half striped high-lites that were place on top crown(tiny pony tail size) of my head for $ 100.- When I went to someone more professional– they asked me at first if I did the high-lites myself!!! Eric needs to also be consistent w/his prices he tells you and then the next week you come in charge you that price not some random price he makes up as he goes.

Quality, attentive, exceptional trained hair stylist. Eric runs his own show and does a great job. He aspires to educate his clients on daily maintenance of his cuts and I always leave there feeling returned to my «best self» rather than some product-intensified version. I’ve never had color from him but I’m sure he excels. He is intent on not staying the staus quo and educates himself constantly on how to improve what he is offering clients. A great stylist.
