Chapman Design Associates is a small residential design firm located in Los Altos, California. The Principal of the firm, Walter Chapman, has been designing homes for thirty years. Working primarily in the western foothill communities of Santa Clara and San Mateo counties, CDA has helped over 800 clients realize their goals and dreams for their homes and their families.

As a referral based company, personal attention to our clients’ needs, clear and efficiently prepared plans, and an eye for design have been the hallmark of our practice. A working relationship with planning and building department staffs, and connections with local contractors, ensures a smooth process for our clients. From the first conceptual design to the gleam of fresh paint on the finished product, our goal is to make the experience of building a home an enjoyable one.

Having grown up in San Jose in the 1960’s, Housing subdivisions and concrete drainage swales were quickly replacing the fruit orchards and creeks we played in as children and I was fascinated by the construction of the new homes popping up all around us. I did not know then the influence that both of these memories would have on my life and future career.

The very first home to be constructed was from one of my designs when I was seventeen and still in high school. It stands today near the Santa Cruz yacht harbor.

While supporting myself by preparing designs and plans for a local developer, it became apparent that the degree was only one means to an end, that I could pursue and realize my dream of designing homes simply by learning and applying the trade.

As circumstances would have it, people recognized my talent. Soon I was on my way to establishing the practice that I have now enjoyed for thirty years.
