High Hand Nursery

Good place but hostess was very rude. We were there with a party of 8 and spent 260 dollars. After an hour and 40 min someone in the party asked for more water. The lady who worked there’s remark was we have a party waiting for your table and gave my friend a little bit of water. very rude. Not going back

High Hand nursery is hands down the most beautiful and fun nursery I’ve ever had the pleasure of exploring. Complete with koi pond, (with very comfy seating) gallery, vinegar and olive oil shop, as well as several other specialty shops that make it truly one of a kind. Try the lemon flavored balsamic vinegar! I’m officially addicted. High Hand is a gorgeous destination to take the whole family, even if it’s just to get ideas for the garden. It’s like real life Pinterest! The plants available are unsurpassed, for only slightly more money than, say, home depot. Ample shade and an overhead water misting system makes even the hottest of days tolerable. The restaurant looks equally stunning, though I have not had the pleasure of eating in, (yet). I truly love High Hand nursery. It makes for a delightful day trip, and I would highly recommend it to anyone!

Quite a popular place on weekends. High Hand Nursery is a nursery, gardening supply, a restaurant, as well as a few other small establishments inside the large former fruit warehouse (wine tasting rooms, textiles, art gallery, olive oil, et al). Even if not in the shopping mood, browsing here is fun with lots to see and ideas to develop.
The nursery gardens aren’t the typical rows of plants. Instead, inviting paths and and greenery vignettes. If nothing more, stroll the nursery and meander.
The former fruit warehouse is home to a large open area of pottery, large and small, of varying styles. Remnants of this buildings original life as fruit sorting and storage kept in place. Some walls display photos and history of this building former glory. Somewhat like a small town inside this structure, small shops dot the periphery.
If you’re looking for garden ideas, plants, pots, supplies, and want to integrate some wine tasting, olive oil tasting, an art gallery and even lunch, consider this spot as a stop when in the area.

Next best thing to getting a massage. It’s my go-​to place when I need a hit of everything beautiful, gracious and restorative. Bob in the nursery is so very helpful and kind. The plants are devine, the quality gifts, pottery, rugs, wine tasting, the koi ponds, the piped in music, the cooling misters all make for a splendidly unique destination. The educational forums they host are terrific with owner, Scott, and his guests. Then I top off my meanderings with a beet salad in the café and I’m good again. Thank you all for making this such a beautiful offering for those near and far.

Ahhh, I could relax here for hours… this is the most gorgeous nursery I’ve seen! When I walk through the front gates, I feel like I’m somewhere else, some dreamy land where the landscaping is picture perfect and the music is creating a zen moment among the plants. In a perfect world, this is what my backyard would look like! There’s a beautiful koi pond that has comfy chairs nearby to sit in. The café is wonderful, I’m sure, but I haven’t had the chance to try it yet. There’s a fun gift shop to walk through and lots of other things to check out in the main building which used to be an old fruit packing warehouse, I think. Anyway, the nursery is a beautiful place to check out some amazing plants, or just stroll through and enjoy the peacefulness of it.

High Hand is a beautiful place with pretty decent food. That being said I am only writing this review to protect those that may be hosting an event at this location. I booked High Hand for a rehearsal cocktail party for my wedding 6 months prior to my event. I had approximately 80+ out of towners coming for this event. I had contracted on paper and given High Hand a deposit for the event. Three weeks before the event I was written an email with the event coordinator simply stating:
«We have decided that we will not be able to accommodate your event, as it will not fit with our framework.
Considering it is the day before a Holiday, we do not have a staff to stay on to work that evening.»
What was fascinating is that when I pressed the issue and informed the owner that I had intents to spend more on alcohol they were suddenly able to staff the event. However due to the negative emotional roller coaster High Hand put me through I decided I would rather frantically find another venue (which I did end up spending more money at) then have my wedding event at a location with such negative. Buyer beware of hosting your event here… they may cancel at the last moment.

Beautiful scenery! Wonderful selection of plants and cool galleries. The Café is divine but you must make reservations!

I spent a wonderful afternoon with my family at High Hand. We had a delicious lunch in their greenhouse, shopped for succulents, unique pots, and enjoyed the park like setting. They have a great selection of plants, trees, garden art, fruits & veggies, sweet treats, and other hand crafted items. Before we knew it we had spent four fabulous hours at High Hand.

This place is rad. I have been twice now, and both times were simply lovely days spent wining and strolling and daydreaming.
The setting — can’t be more romantic. The train tracks and trees and country setting and the patio and the open-​air seating arrangements and the gardens and the farming and the greenery and the fact that they are ALL ONE.
The café — is it on the pricey side? Yes. But it’s not out of reach if you keep it simple. Or you could go all out and have a couple-​hundred dollar smörgåsbord brunchfest. Note — both of my visits were for brunch. One was a cheaper simple affair, and one was more ballin’. I really want to go for a lunchy-​dinner sometime because I want to sit at the pizza oven-​bar. With wine probably. Order a glass of wine or a coffee drink to go and walk around the grounds with it because it’s allowed!!! :) :)
The grounds — the restaurant spills into the most beautiful garden which is the nursery’s outdoor display areas. Ponds, fountains, artistic installations, trees, a whole forest of japanese maples and bonzai-​esque tree art… quirky, repurposed pianos and old vehicles… and almost everything you’re enjoying is for sale.
The shops — Inside the old fruit-​packing «plant”/barn/warehouse building adjacent to the café/​gardens is a (calling it a «mall» is insulting, but a good description nonetheless) with garden whimsies and supplies, an entire oriental rug store, some amazing vintage and vintage-​vibed artisan shops, a knitting shop, some amazing woodwork and sculptural things for sale all throughout, a magnificent central room that I wish I had gotten married in, some WINE tasting rooms, jewelry stores, art studios, and last but NOT LEAST is the artisan olive oil and vinegar bulk shoppe/​tasting room!!! Get lost there with your wine.
Get lost there all over. Allow like 3.5 hours. I’m not kidding. (That’s why brunch!)

This nursery is beautiful! They have beautiful flowers and beautiful scenery and it’s a great place to hang out. I’m giving it four stars instead of five, because some of the items are a bit pricey, but it sure is a beautiful place to go and look at flowers or eat lunch or just spent some time walking around.

It’s decent food. I highly recommend getting reservations if you go on a weekend. In my opinion, everything is about $ 3 – 5 overpriced. Still, it’s probably worth going once just for the experience and to walk around the grounds.

I ONLY came here because they had food, that was what lured me in here with the missus. It was well worth it, the wait for brunch can get long but heck, they hand you a buzzer and you get to roam the grounds which are as intriguing as it gets. I don’t garden at all but even they had some nice interesting plants to touch, smell and lick. I licked the furry ones. Sorry, High Hand.
The food was great, service was really fast and prompt. Only complaint was dirty silverware and glass with lipstick on it, which they rectified immediately and one plate with a hair in it was taken off the bill– which I appreciate.
Would come back for the experience, food was good enough to make us overlook the issues… but again, it could have been a fluke. Service can make up for honest mistakes in my opinion.

My honey and I love this place. A Great combo of Nursery and Art. They have the best selection of Japanese Maples in the Sacramento Area. I could say more but go see for yourself! Don and Kimberly

Just took mom there… still a fantastic experience both for the tastebuds and visuallybeautiful. Loved our waitress and the autumn salad and wood-​oven pizza was wonderful!

Where has this place been all my life?
I had to have a salad for breakfast, it looked THAT good on the menu. It had all of my favorite foods; beets, squash, chicken, cheese, it was SO GOOD! and HUGE! It was pricy at $ 15 but so so so good. I want to drive back from the bay area to have it again now.
My mom and uncle both enjoyed their breakfast dishes. The warm biscuit that came with my mom’s omelette was wonderfully tasty and warm.
The shop was ridiculously cute– you can spend hours walking through the nursery and shops. Prices seemed sort of high but many things seemed worth it when there were a limited number of items and some were hand made.

Beautiful gardens to walk through & find lovely plants to take home. Pottery galore… large garden pots, vessels, fountains & more. A restaurant is on site. Menu has variety of healthy lunch/​brunch items, is a bit pricey but must be yummy as restaurant is always busy.
Much more to view, but I go for the gardens.

I enjoyed the light selection of plants at High Hand Nursery, but the lackluster service and confusing set-​up weren’t what I was looking for.
I came through after eating near the koi pond from the restaurant next door. The koi and water feature areas were very pretty, but I wasn’t sure if they actually sell those things. They very artistically display the plants available in shaded and sunny sections, but the selection was limited. They did have plenty of pine and maple trees, but seemed pricey.
I had a hard time identifying staff, there were some young guys around who may have been working summer jobs, but it wasn’t clear if they could help me. I wanted more selection on annuals as well as flowering perennials other than camellia, gardenia and hydrangea. I had to wait a long time at checkout for a custom order ahead of me (I had one plant to buy), which was frustrating.
Overall this is a lovely spot to visit for its beauty, and a great alternative place to eat if the restaurant is full, but not so much on plant selection and customer service.

Beautiful property and large plant selection. I love coming here to buy gifts. Even if you just walk around without purpose, you will have spent your time well! We have made terrariums using the tiny plants sold here, decorated little spots in the yard with the ceramic mushrooms sold here, and I have received a couple of gift cards from my family for this place. Love it and they have misters to keep the plants — and you– cool!

This place was GORGEOUS! Such a huge, huge, huge selection of plants. The café also serves very delicious food. The wait time for a table was 30 mins for us because we were there during a lunch rush but we just spent the time strolling through their garden.
We ordered the Potato Chips and Lemon Artichoke Dip appetizer; my boyfriend and I both agreed that it was by far, hands down, the best chips and dip we’ve ever had from anywhere. It was light and lemony and the potato chips were just right to pair with it. $ 6
We also had the Chicken Apple Sausage pizza. It had chopped asparagus on it which was an awesome touch. It was wood oven baked and the crust was thin and crunchy. 12 inch pizza, which came out to six slices were just the right amount for 2 people. $ 17
Their high hand coffee was actually really flavorful. $ 3 and comes with refills.
They have outdoor or indoor seating, also a bar area where the wood oven is.
I didn’t give 5 stars because our waitress, although she was friendly and decent, wasn’t on top of her game. She was overworked and had too many tables to run between so it was difficult to flag her down for service.

Spent the afternoon here w/​a group of friends. We arrived an hour before our reservation to explore the nursery, pottery, olive oil +vinegar shops, and do a little wine tasting. My fave spot was the High Hand oil & vinegars. They suggest pairings and bottles are sold in 50ml for $ 5 or 375ml for $ 15. There are so many to choose from! You can also mix and match any on your own. It’s easy to spend a lot of time in there.
If you wait for the owner to bottle your order, expect to wait a long time. She’s usually in there by herself and the store has many visitors. You are welcome to bottle your own oil & vinegars, which is what I did during my 2^nd visit.
The restaurant itself is nothing to brag about. We ate at 1:30. Those that ordered breakfast (eggs Benedict and pancakes) were not disappointed. My sister and I ordered salads (arugula w/​added chicken & chicken fajita salad). The chicken was extremely dry. My sis said she has better rotisserie chicken from the grocery store. The other dish I thought was better than my salad was the veggie pizza. Nice thin crust & taste was good overall. Wouldn’t eat there again, but am a big fan of the flavored oil & vinegars.
