Segway of Long Beach

My granddaughter (16) and I took this tour this past Sunday and it was even more fun than I’d imagined it would be! I was somewhat nervous about it, thinking it might be too difficult for an older gal like myself to learn. Our tour guide, Aubrey, was genuinely nice and helpful. In addition, she also answered all of our questions so helpfully, she really made me think that ‘no question is too dumb.“
It did take me a bit longer to learn than my granddaughter, but I still was able to learn how to ride the Segway in about 20 minutes. My favorite part was when we were able to go off on our own for a bit and just swirl around and have fun on the Segway. I can’t wait to do it again! Lots of fun!

Segway/​Long Beach was a FANTASTIC tour ! D.J. was our guide, he was a wealth of information on Long Beach history, sites, tourist information, and EXTREAMLY patient. Thank you for completing our Anniversary trip !!

My daughter and I had an awesome time. The tour was very informative and the segways were a lot of fun. The staff was excellent; they all were super sweet, patient and very entertaining. I highly recommend this for any occasion.

Segway of LA gave us a wonderful tour at the Long Beach location! We would highly recommend this company to anyone who would like to explore something different! Our guide Suzanne was very friendly and shared great information about the great City of Long Beach! We enjoyed our time very much! Thank you!

My fourth time riding a segway! Angela was the greatest tour guide ! She was very thorough in the training process for my inexperienced friends!

This was my 3^rd Segway tour so I’m a little more critical.
Tour guide Anita: (4 stars) because she had to come in on Saturday to take just the 3 of us on that tour, and she did try to do the best she could given what little she had to work with.
Receptionist Suzanne: (4 stars) because she had to deal with my having to change the scheduled date twice.
Sites: (3 stars) because Long Beach doesn’t have that many points of interest.
Cost: (5 stars) ONLY because of the half-​off discount. Without that discount, it’s overpriced.
Equipment: (1 star) What? No pouch to put snackies and water in? The Segways at the La Cienega branch all had pouches — big enough to even hold a small sweater if it got too hot.
Office amenities: (1 star) What? No snackies or water? The branch at La Cienega had a basketful of chips, crackers, and cookies to munch on while viewing the training video. In fact, they even told us we could take some of the snacks with us on the tour in case we should get hungry. AND they handed everyone a bottle of water so we wouldn’t get dehydrated.
Summary: That area of Long Beach is beautiful — despite the view of the oil pipes. However, there really are too few landmarks to make it worth having a guided tour. Just rent the Segway and go on your own.

I bought a Living Social deal for a 2 hour tour in Long Beach. I was nervous at the beginning as I thought it would be very difficult to maneuver. I was wrong! It takes maybe 5 – 10 minutes to get used to using the segway, then it becomes so easy. Because no one else had shown up for the tour, we (my husband and I) had the option to have a guided tour, or to just use the segways on our own. We chose to go by ourselves. We used them for 2 hours and never had any problems. The staff was extremely helpful and kind. We had so much fun and would definitely recommend it to anyone. I think it is pretty pricey without a groupon/​living social deal, so keep a look out for those!

Segways are super fun, easy to ride, and are a great way to see all the sights Long Beach has to offer. Although pricey, I recommend purchasing the two hours (w/​o the tour), as you can go wherever you want and rest whenever you want to. The girls that work here are great and helpful, and gave us detailed directions on how to get to every destination.
However, I had to take away a star, because while coming back on the bridge from the Queen Mary, the combination of the uphill slope and the wind caused me to lose control of the Segway, resulting in giant scrapes all along the back of my calf. I wish we were given a warning, or at least some general information about how to re-​gain control of the Segway in case of a situation like this (it couldn’t have been the first time), but oh well.
I would definitely return if it wasn’t so expensive, so I will be looking out for the Groupon deals they offer.

After a two hour rental, the boyfriend decided his new life calling is to be a mall cop… it was that much fun!
There is a tour option, but we decided to go with the straight up two-​hour rental, which was the way to go: we were able to go at our own pace (12mph for the win!!) and take breaks/​photo stops as needed. We had so much fun and were amazed at how much you can see in 2 hours (we hit up Shoreline Village, the Queen Mary, the Lighthouse, the Waterfront, and the Pike). I was afraid we would have a hard time getting around, but with all the bike lanes in Long Beach, we were able to safely ride from place to place. Overall, Long Beach is such a beautiful area with lots of space– perfect for Segways!
At first (&especially after watching the somewhat hilariously exaggerated safety video), I was scared to ride the Segway. But after the mini training session, I definitely felt more comfortable and after 20 minutes or so, I was riding with ease. I also appreciated that Blaine took us out a little ways to a good starting point before letting us go out on our own.
In terms of operating the Segway, it’s pretty intutive: you lean forward to accelerate and backward to stop. To turn, you tilt the handle. Super easy! Don’t be afraid to put your weight into it: the Segway will slow down if you’re going too fast and will alert you if you’re riding too recklessly.
Only cons:
-$ 80/​person for 2 hours. A little pricey– will keep an eye out for a Groupon, which supposedly cuts the price in half (they release a Groupon every 6 months or so)
–Shared helmets. They do sanitize between uses, however I’ll probably bring my bike helmet and see if I can use it next time.
Overall a fantastic experience! And the staff (Blaine, Suzanne) was great too!
Final tips:
–Wear comfortable shoes! My feet were numb for the last half hour.
–Upon returning, Suzanne said another fun spot to hit up is the Belmont area (fancy homes along the waterfront in LB).
–You’re on the coast, so it can get a bit nippy. Dress appropriately.

So much fun and I didn’t realize how beautiful Long Beach is! What a great way to see the sites. Remarkable how easy it is with a little instruction, it’s intuitive.
When we arrived we were greeted by a woman who checked us in and we watched a 5 minute video — the do’s and dont’s of riding. Then a few minute of instruction with our Segway and we’re off!
I would recommend this to anyone — it’s different, fun, and most likely not something you’ll get to do again.
I do have some constructive criticism — I hope if the tour company reads this they will use it constructively.
The woman who checked us in told us what NOT to do — I think she could have been more fun about it — I felt like I was getting lectured by my mother. MAKE IT FUN — we’re all here to have fun and be safe — loosen up a bit. SMILE!
Our guide, I think his name was Blaine did EVERYTHING we were told NOT to do. He didn’t wear a helmet, he was texting while on his Segway, made sure we all knew he was a professional photographer and made sure we grabbed his card — he could have been more subtle. He showed us the sites and gave us a little history but it was very little and he was not very enthused. He seemed bored. Don’t get me wrong, he was very nice and personable but he just glossed over the sites. I would have liked to know more or at least felt that he was interested. AGAIN — we’re all here to have fun — HAVE FUN — don’t act bored. I’ve been on many local tours — he just didn’t have any passion for what he was doing.

My boyfriend have always wanted to try these. I, on the other hand, was very reluctant. I caved in one Sunday afternoon and it was the best decision of my life! :) It’s soo much fun! We paid $ 80/​person for 2 hours. Quite pricey but worth EVERY penny.
You have 2 choices: browse around on your own or go with the tour guide. I heard the tour can be fun too since the guide will be taking you to all the sights worth seeing in Long Beach aka the ocean, Queen Mary, etc. But my boyfriend and I wanted a little freedom to roam so we decided to choose the option where we can go anywhere by ourselves. Long Beach is the perfect place for this too! It is very spacious and you can zoom around without worrying about hitting people as there is lots of room.
I was soooo nervous prior to stepping on a segway, but don’t let these little suckers fool you! They looked extremely hard but eventually you will get a hang of it. I had a little bit of a hard time at first. I wasn’t sure how to position myself and get myself to stop. The workers there will train you and allow you time to practice so don’t worry at all. They are very patient and encouraging as well! Like I’ve mentioned, I had a hard time stopping so even when the lady there tells me to stop, I couldn’t! She was still very friendly and the other male worker told me I’ll get the hang of it sooner or later. My boyfriend got the hang of it faster than me and he had to do a lot of waiting for me. (haha!) We roamed everywhere afterwards. It’s so much fun, I cannot emphasize enough! We also got LOTSSSSS of people asking us where we rented those. Have to admit, we liked the attention! Everyone was staring, pointing, talking, even honking! (in a good way) You will definitely not go unnoticed.
*Tips:
— They are located right next to Coldstones and behind Hooters.
— You MUST wear a helmet even if you think it is the most ridiculous thing so just rock it!
— You will be on your feet for 2 hours standing in one spot. Imagine standing in a line that doesn’t move. Therefore, remember to wear comfy shoes!
— Don’t be afraid to use your body. To go you will need to put pressure on your toes, so don’t be afraid to lean forward. To stop, you have to put pressure on your heel. Do whatever it takes! Squat. Lean all the way back. Etc. I say this because I was nervous and stiff so I didn’t really move my body and that’s what made it to hard for me to stop.
— Last but not least, RELAX AND HAVE FUN!!! It’s most enjoyable if you’re at ease.

I love groupon b/​c businesses go through groupon to suck you in for life! LOL I loved the experience and Long Beach is spacious and safe for people to get on these two-​wheelers and zoom around. Everyone will experience this cool transport in various ways, but for me it’s cool.
Now a word of caution:
You’re constantly on your feet (duh!) but here’s the thing… you’re not moving your feet around. Imagine standing in a line for 2 hours not walking or moving around. So what do you think happens to your feet? HOWEVER… NO NEED TO FEAR! Here is my advice:
1. If you’re flat-​footed, bring some Dr. Scholl’s. Period. You need some good arch support.
2. You know those London guards who do not move around for long periods of time? They were taught feet and leg squeezing exercises so they do not experience DVT. So… contract your feet and leg muscles when you’ve been on them for about ½ hour.
3. Ask your guide (they’re awesome people) to stop once in a while and get off your segway and stretch and move around. :)
SEE…it works out!!! Now if your feet never get tired after standing in line for a long time… YOU’RE LUCKY!!!
But it was great. Going with more people (friends and family) is even much more fun. Just watch out for the nervous riders… they’ll end up making YOU nervous.

So much fun! My boyfriend and I had a blast on these things. I was a little more nervous through the ride but he was pretty much a pro after like 2 minutes.
We bought the Groupon Now Deals — $ 59 for the 2 hour tour, when we called he said they had no more room because they only had 5 segways at the time and there were no more tours after 12. I told him how we had to use it that day and he told us we could take them out on our own for 2 hours at 3. HOW AWESOME. We were a little nervous because we weren’t sure how fun it would be without someone telling you where to go, well we were wrong. If you’re older and like to ride them faster (or as fast as they can go-​12mph) then I suggest going out alone and not with a tour. It was nice that we got to go wherever we wanted and didn’t have to wait for anyone (he had to wait for me haha). Riding along the beach, seeing the Queen Mary, darting all over the place.
They can be a little tricky at first but after a while you’re more comfy on it and it is so easy. If you’re in the area try these, it’s worth it! Even without the Groupon it is tons of fun and worth every penny.

Tried Segway the first time this past weekend and it was very, very cool! I was nervous at first since I can be very uncoordinated at times. But, as the tour went on, I felt more and more comfortable and very easy to use. If I can do it, anyone can. ha!
Blaine was our tour guide and he was very easy going and friendly. He was patient with our group and then eventually all of us got the hang of it. We all started to zip around like it was no big deal.
Groupon or no groupon, it is worth it. The sole of my feet were sore during the tour because I was putting alot of pressure on my feet while on the segway. My tip — just relax your feet if you can and wear comfortable shoes.=)

What a different and fun activity for the whole family! My dad had bought the Groupon for this a while ago. The groupon was something like $ 40/​person while regularly it’s $ 79/​person for two hours. It was hard for us to find a day for my whole family to make it and they were gracious enough to extend the groupon deal for us long after it had expired. Anita and Blaine were the staff members and they were fantastic tour guides. They’re very friendly, knowledgeable, and personable.
I wasn’t all TOO excited about this but I knew it would be a different kind of fun.
After watching a short and informative video on how to ride a Segway, it was time for us to get on and learn. It was quick and easy for mostly everyone (‘cept my mother. smh). We were off to ride to the Queen Mary and the white dome building. I didn’t realize how much fun it was to ride a Segway and would love to have one on my own! But they are quite pricey ($ 6k for new, $ 4.5k for used).
I don’t want to disclose too much about the tour but I will say that it was such a blast and a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon with your family or a date. It’s always fun to get a lot of looks from people in awe and be prepared to answer any questions from pedestrians about how much the tour is! ($ 79/​person for two hours) but don’t mention the Groupon deal as it would make them jealous (:

I bought three tickets via Groupon. The staff was very responsive, returned my call the next day. We chose a beautiful weekend in December, the whole experience was fabulous. We turned out to be the only three people in the group.
One important point to note, the third person was my 80 year old mother in law. We, including my mother inlaw, got the hang of it within 10 minutes. I don’t remember the last time we had such a fun toy. So don’t worry about learning how to control a segway, it’s much easier than it looks. And … don’t let that introductory video intimidate you.
We never knew there were so many beautiful sites in Long Beach, especially on a beautiful day. We felt like we were drifting in paradise.

I write this with mixed feelings. I wanted to give them 5 stars because of the tour, but 1 star was taken away for the amount of time we had to wait beyond our appointment time.
It all started with the fantastic Groupon deal. I surprised my girlfriend by taking her to Long Beach for her birthday. She had no idea what was planned.
We had a 2pm appointment for a tour and we arrived early (as everyone should). A lot of other people were also signed up for the same tour and we waited and waited and waited. About 2:20pm they decided that it was okay to take just the two of us.
Our tour guide was quiet at first, but eventually opened up and showed his personality. We zipped around Long Beach. Such a blast! Because it was just the two of us plus the tour guide it was a day to remember.
I highly recommend taking a tour on a Segway. Fun! Fun! Fun!

This was my first segway experience and it was smiling ear-​to-​ear the whole time! it made me feel as if I was one of those Star Wars character riding on their flying vehicles (because the Segways actually make the same sound when they move around).
At first you feel like you’re floating on air, but after about half an hour, you feel the pain on the soles of your feet. (I don’t know if it’s because I was subconsciously a little tense?) Our tour guide Blaine was pretty good, and Long Beach is great for Segway because there are not a lot of people walking around. (Segway is only fun if you can go for a long time without dodging the crowds).
Groupon allowed us to to have the $ 75 two-​hour experience for just $ 30. I wish I had gotten two now!

My first Segway tour (in DC) set my expectations incredibly high. There were so many sights to see, so much history to learn, and an amazingly professional tour guide.
Long Beach has a cool waterfront but there are very few «must see» attractions. Blaine, our tour guide, is a college student who researched and scripted his own tour. Where he lacked in professionalism, he made up in his friendliness. He loves photography and was more than willing to taken dozens of photos for us. Since my mom and I were the only 2 participants of the tour the day we attended, we were able to do whatever we want and see things at our own pace.
Segways are so much fun and so easy to ride — don’t let the hilarious (although not meant to be) mandatory safety video scare you. It’s totally worth the experience, especially if you grabbed a Groupon.

Taking advantage of a killer Groupon deal, the four of us took the two hour tour on an incredibly clear, sparkling clean day today. In no time, our two newbies had the Segway wired and there they went, winding through bike lanes, zipping down pedestrian walks, traversing newly mowed lawns and I soon realized that were I selling drugs, I’d have created two new addicts. I was the pusher and they were hooked. Does Segway provide a rehab center? They couldn’t stop talking all the way home.
