History

Established in 1992.

Salon Soma is the original Aveda concept salon in Belmont Shore. Owner/​Stylist Tula Trigonis began cutting her brothers’ hair for $ 2 in junior high and soon decided to take it to the next level, opening and running a successful salon for the past 24 years.

I got my hair colored last Saturday by Sarah, and she gave me exactly what I wanted. I went in with dark brown hair, and showed her a picture of medium brown with very soft, subtle highlights. She walked me through everything she was doing, and made my visit very comfortable. I’ve gotten so many compliments and I feel so pretty! It’s amazing how great hair puts a little extra pep in your step. I’m looking forward to going a little lighter next time — can’t wait!

I have found my salon! Salon Soma is an affordable salon in a great location– the owner Tula is super friendly and is an amazing colorist. I will never go anywhere else in Long Beach and would absolutely recommend this Aveda salon to anyone who was looking for a new salon. The salon itself is cozy and relaxed with a cute outdoor space out front. Try parking on the side streets for free rather than a meter on 2nd street.

I changed over to Salon Soma after 25 years going to Salon De Tangle in Whittier. The Salon Soma was recommended by my niece. Everyone is so… nice. Hollie is my hair dresser and is fantastic. My husband loves how she leaves my hair. I highly recommend the salon and Hollie; however, all the girls there are great.

Still coming here six years later now with my husband and two kids (8, and 4 yr. old girls) and we are still happy. We have been seen by the whole staff at one time or another and have been happy with services we have received. I just started seeing Sarah and very happy with the cut I received. The staff is super friendly and I love that sometimes with only a few days notice I am able to make appointments for my entire family at one time.

Talented and dedicated folks. Stayed late to get everything done because of my crazy work schedule. They were there till 9.30 pm! I got a hair cut, brazilian blow out and highlights. I told Jackie to give me layers and but not reduce the length. She did just that. My hair has more body and I have a more glamorous look. The higglights gave me a professional look which is great for my work life. Neatly done. I may get a few brighter highlights for a few chunks of my hair, just to get a little edgy. They are fast and efficient as well. Very accomodating. I will go here again.

Just got my hair done with Kat and could not be more happy! I asked for a subtle ombré and that is what I got. She was very helpful in figuring out what I wanted before she started. I like that she took the time in the beginning to make sure I was going to get something that I would be happy with. The salon itself is very inviting and they provide refreshments. Make sure you have extra cash on you for tip because their machine does not have a tip line when you use your card. Thanks again Kat!

I recently got my hair done by KAT and she was amazing! She is very thorough to make sure she is in agreement with what you are thinking! She took her time, explained everything, and did everything possible to make sure I was comfortable and happy! She is seriously amazing with hair color and I couldn’t be happier! She darkened up my ombré and really brought the blonde ends to life! Go see her! I promise you won’t be disappointed!!! Thanks kat! You’re the best!!!

I’ve loved this salon from the first time I found it when I was searching for Aveda products when I moved to Long Beach two years ago. The welcome I received from Tula was the warmest and friendliest ever. I think she even invited me to a salon event that first time I went to buy products. I’ve been buying products there since then and I just got my hair cut there for the first time … kept going back to my old shop in Torrance. What a difference! I wish I would’ve went sooner! Tula gave me a great haircut. She made my dull, lifeless hair come back to life. The haircut is clean and my hair has body and movement. This is a big deal for me … very big deal! I’m happy with hair today … I don’t say that too often! I’ll be back! For sure!!! Thanks, Tula!

Since moving to California in October, Courtney has been doing my hair. She does an amazing job! I am one of those people who like really fun funky styles. If you are not afraid of doing big changes with your hair and doing something really fun and edgy with it Courtney is the girl to go to. I always get so many complements on my hair after I have my hair done by her and I walk out feeling great.

I love the remodel and the staff. My friends and I all go here. I have never been disappointed. I see Chelse. She is very talented and a new mom! I have also had Tula she does an amazing job! I love the product and the way she runs her business… We done girl! Keep it up. My baby goes there too! She is a haircutting ninja, he doesn’t even see the scissors coming and then she is done. I visited Salon Soma a few weeks ago and had a pleasant experience. My stylist was Courtney, who is fantastic! She gave me a really sexy haircut with lots of layers that made my fine hair look like it had tons of volume. If you’re looking for a stylist who can cut layers well, Courtney is your best bet. She is also professional and friendly. I definitely give her five stars.
My overall rating is four stars because the salon itself could be more well-​maintained. The sinks are a bit rusty and the shampoo chairs are somewhat uncomfortable. It’s also on the smaller side, and I’m used to my old Aveda salon, which was spacious and had a nice, dimly-​lit shampoo area where you’d get your hair washed.
Still, even without the frills, Salon Soma is worth checking out for the quality of haircuts alone. Go see Courtney; you won’t be disappointed.

I have been visiting Salon Soma for well over 10 years now. Tula and her staff are wonderful, professional and friendly. The salon is clean and in a great location. I’m always greeted with a smile, offer for coffee/​water/​etc. I love how Tula spends so much time training younger stylists — she is a great role model.

Review for Sparrow Fox:
I left Salon Soma feeling like a super hero today! LOL I went in with long hair that dragged my face down and pretty much did nothing for me, and left with a cut that gave me volume, style, and confidence. I have never gone with such an edgy shorter cut, and was so happy with the experience from start to finish.
I would definitely recommend someone make an appointment with Sparrow Fox. She listens to what you want, gives her artistic suggestions, and talks you through your transformation.

I have come here twice and I enjoyed both experiences very much. Each time I was the only one in there and it was quiet and peaceful. I thought the salon was small but cozy, very inviting. I had two cuts and one brazilian blowout.
Both Kathryn and Courtney, they are both great! I felt Courtney knew what to do with my hair a little bit more than Kathryn, but they are both great girls with a lot of knowledge and very friendly.
I highly recommend coming here if you want a great cut, decent prices and a little more of a quiet atmosphere.

Tula and her gals at Salon Soma took part in a professional headshot event that the LB Chamber’s Women’s Business Council had awhile back.
As a women of color (the color of dark chocolate, that is), I was SO VERY happy with how Libby (I think it was Libby) made me up for my picture!
I’m a Mary Kay beauty consultant, but they used their Aveda cosmetics on me, of course, and the colors were slammin’ — and perfect for my skin tone. She TOTALLY matched my foundation to perfection and my eyes (and cheeks) looked just beautiful.
Any makeup artist who wants to learn how to work with all skin tones should totally get with her!
