History

Established in 2007.

Proprietor Michael Dene sold his successful lighting manufacturing business eight years ago and decided to pursue a lifelong dream of owning and operating his own restaurant. He found upscale Naples Island, a waterfront enclave in Long Beach, California, and assembled a team of talented architects and designers to help transform the space, and recruited seasoned restaurant and culinary professionals to create a fine dining concept unlike any other in Southern California.

Michael’s On Naples opened in December 2007 and, within a short span of time, has risen to become one of the region’s top dining destinations that has earned rave reviews from the media.

Meet the Business Owner

Michael D.

Business Owner

You could say Michael Dene, owner of Michael’s On Naples and Michael’s Pizzeria, is very much a renaissance man. His Italian lineage coupled with his Brooklyn-born sensibilities has resulted in a multi-faceted career that has taken him from the boardroom to behind the kitchen door.

The former owner of a successful lighting manufacturing business with a penchant for good food, a younger Michael was known around his New York neighborhood for making handcrafted, bottled condiments as gifts for birthdays, holidays and special occasions. For many years Dene’s Sunday ritual included preparing an incredible feast, which quickly became the most coveted dinner invitation in town. On Monday morning it was back to business and the world of lighting manufacturing.

Dene sold his company in 2004 and set out to pursue a lifelong dream of owning and operating his own restaurant. In December 2007, Michael’s on Naples opened its doors.
