Rented a Lagoon 380 to take some friends to Santa Barbara Island. Arrived early as asked to find that the boat was not ready. When they opened her up so that we could board and load, I was overwhelmed by the smell of of a holding tank overflow that obviously hadn’t been cleaned up correctly. Dingy was not in the davits and I had to ask the staff before it got done. When they did put it in they failed to secure it properly to the cleats on the port and starboard sides of the amas. They also almost sent us off without a winch handle. Good thing I checked it all out before we left. It was rough the whole way out to the island. The staff had carelessly thrown the bow tow rope of the dingy inside it without tying up the excess rope. As we arrived at the island it slipped out of the dinghy and into our Port side prop. I spent the next hour in my wetsuit trying to free the line from the prop. After that I was too tired to take everyone to shore and we were getting too close to the return hour timewise and had to go back. All that way in rough conditions only to have to turn around. There were a number of maintenance issues with the boat. Lights inside and out that did not work, pieces of trim work that came off in my hand. Electric wing kept tripping the circuit breaker. Although it is advertised as a cruising rental, it lacks Radar, an Inverter or generator, and AIS. Not exactly a cruising ready boat. The stench of the prior holding tank overflow really made being inside unbearable. This boat really needs some TLC.
