i love this paper. i read everything but the HS sports. i even read the ads
i just wish they posted street closures and the horoscope
i also wish they would do follow up articles or even updates… ex: 2^nd/​pch right turn lane? 7^th st bridge?

The Grunion Gazette is perfect for finding local events and entertainment, as well community info and apartment hunting. I look forward to thumbing through it every week.

I’d probably give 4 stars, but there needs to be an antidote for the hysteric who gave one star because the Gazette didn’t cover his pet issue. The Gazette doesn’t have reporters pounding beats to pick up events as they happen, so it can’t be expected to be on hand to cover a die-​in or whatever the drama queens concocted as their end-​of-​the world response to Prop 8. Did the girls notify the Gazette before their event?
Actually, The Gazette is one of the finest throwaways in the nation. It has good coverage of community events, and its concentration of local advertising makes it a useful Yellow Pages. The Gazette has a truly neighborhood feel to it, and I always welcome it on my doorstep.

The gazettes lose ALL STARS because of their handling of the Prop 8 protests.
Nov 4^th: Election night. Obama wins, Prop 8 passes.
Nov 7^th: Thousands of people take to the streets of Long Beach to protest the disgraceful amendment to the constitution.
Nov 10^th: Downtown gazette comes out with an issue about… Prop I failing? The east village farmer’s market? The upcoming drift race? NOTHING about the protest.
I write to the Editor to ask about this omission. I was told by Executive Editor Harry Saltzgaver that it was a timing issue, and that it would be covered in the next week’s issue.
Nov 17^th issue is out. NOT ONE ARTICLE ABOUT THE PROTEST, or the subsequent rally on November 15, which also drew thousands. Instead we get an editorial telling us protestors to shut the f*ck up and respect the will of the voters. NO ARTICLE AT ALL!!!
So: I was lied to, and one of the biggest stories to hit Long Beach got completely ignored.
I’m done with this newspaper. I’ll get my news local news from other media outlets that actually COVER local events!

I am coupon girl! And the Grunion makes me very happy. My absolute favorites are the buy-​one-​get-​one-​free restaurant coupons. Those make my day.
Oh, and I also enjoy reading the articles.

Like Raphael M said, the Grunion Gazette, along with its companion the Downtown Gazette, is generally a much better source for local Long Beach news than the Press Telegram. This weekly, free paper comes out every Thursday and can be found on stands throughout Long Beach. The «So Moved» section will keep you up to date on City Council, and the «Business Beat» column will keep you informed as far as new businesses, closed businesses, ownership changes, etc.etc. (For example, I just checked this week’s Business Beat and found out there’s a new Bob’s Big Boy in Signal Hill! No more drives to Burbank for that cherished chili spaghetti!) Lots of other good stuff in this little paper, including good local coverage of the arts as well.
But there are two key gems you must know about:
1. Rental Listings. If you are considering getting an apartment in Long Beach, this is as close as you’ll get to a one-​stop shop. Make sure you get the paper first thing Thursday morning and start calling and looking at places right away because by the weekend the best places will usually already be gone. It’s as close as you can get to a comprehensive source, and it’s much better than the PT’s listings or than driving around to all the property management places and picking up their individual listings.
2. Restaurant Coupons. There are a ton of coupons in the paper for local restaurants, and the restaurant reviews are pretty good as well.
