Dockside Boat & Bed

My partner and I stayed on the Ranita for a night this past weekend. The yacht is older, but it is very well kept and very beautiful, with an amazing view of the Queen Mary and Shoreline Village.
It has a full fridge and freezer, microwave, toaster oven, and coffee maker. The dining area was cozy and cute. The living area was spacious and well furnished. The living room and master bedroom had a TV and DVD player with some DVDs provided. There was also a radio with very good speakers. We opted to listen to music and the storm over watching TV. The deck was nice but because of the wind and rain we were not really able to utilize it.
The yatch has a master bedroom with an attached bathroom and small shower. It also had a smaller guest bedroom with a smaller bathroom attached. Thankfully we were staying alone and were able to switch over to the guest bedroom.
The master bedroom reeks of gasoline, which we were assured at check-​in was just an odor and not actual fumes, despite there being a C3 ionizer in the master bedroom that we were instructed to keep on. We had a spectacular evening hanging out around Shoreline Village and relaxing on the yacht. We stayed out of the master bedroom until it was time to sleep. Soon after falling asleep my partner started coughing uncontrollably. It was bad enough that it eventually woke us both after 15 minutes or so. It took us both a few more minutes to realize that we were struggling to breathe. We quickly vacated the room and moved everything to the guest bedroom. After regaining our breath, we spent the rest of the night in the guest bedroom. Both of us were very sick the next day with chest pain, shortness of breath, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, and light headness — all symptoms of gasoline fume poisoning. A day after check-​out I still am not feeling 100% better. My partner reported our experience to the receptionist in the morning and all we received was a half-​hearted apology and excuses. I don’t feel like they took this serious safety hazard seriously and I am sure future guests will be at risk. It was a lovely experience, minus almost suffocating in my sleep and being brushed off. Not sure I would recommend this place or return though.

We enjoyed our stay in Pasta Too. The boat is small and cute. The view was lovely. If you are claustrophobic be aware: the bedrooms are tiny, but We enjoyed it a lot. All the initial amenities we needed were prepared for us. The location is great, with 10 minute walk we were at the middle of the happening Pine Ave, with great restaurants and bars. Other restaurants and Aquarium are right here.
Despite it was a very windy December night, the movement of the boat wasn’t too bad, as all the boats are connected together.
We woke up late and thought we missed the breakfast, but there was a cute basket of Croissant’s, jam etc waiting for us at the door that was very nice. We enjoyed it at the boat’s deck with beautiful view and fresh breeze.
4 start rather than 5 is for small details: The couch was a bit dirty, although the boat, bathroom & the sheets were very clean. The water got cold after one quick shower. There were coffee and coffee maker but no filter, although we may could have asked for it as the owner was present in another boat for the most part.
We could have stayed in a comfy hotel instead, but this was a much more exciting & memorable experience. And I recommend it.

I have now stayed with Dockside 3 times and they ALL were AMAZING! I have stayed with my BF on the Pasta Too and Kindered Spirit and then stayed with a group of girlfriends on the Indecent Proposal. The location is GREAT! The staff is very nice! I look forward to going back soon… I highly recommend this!

This was a great experience. It is a unique and fun getaway for any couple that just want a quick and easy, yet relaxing mini vacation. One or two days is really all you need with this one. It is right in the center of Shoreline Village and there are several restaurants that are literally a few steps from your yacht. The people that work there are very accommodating. They make sure that you have everything you need for an enjoyable stay! I had a Living Social voucher that made this even more of a deal. I would definitely recommend it and will more than likely stay again!

Caution!!! My wife just got back from Urgent Care and she broke her pinky last night on the Ranita.
My wife and I enjoyed our stay on the Ranita just last night for my birthday. We stayed with another couple who were staying on SeaPeapers. Both boats have an older feel to them but they are well maintained and their sitting area on the main deck was incredible for hanging out and looking into the marina. The main cabin was comfortable but we didn’t spend much time there since the weather was incredible and the outside deck was so inviting.
Accessibility is definitely a consideration when you are going to stay on these boats. Getting into and out of the main cabin takes some effort and balance navigating the steep staircase. When my wife went to bed she was heading through the narrow hatch leading to the lower cabin and her hand hit a spring that was supporting the very heavy latch lid which stays open typically during the day. Since she is less than 5 feet tall she wouldn’t have been able to reach the lid to support it anyway but it came crashing down without warning and caught her on the right pinky. With it being black and blue today she went to Urgent Care and sure enough it was broken. My recommendation to the ownership would be to have better safety features on these heavy lids so that simple missteps or hand placements won’t bring such dire consequences.
Other than the unfortunate accident we really enjoyed our stay on the Ranita and in Long Beach in general. We even used the barbeque to maximize our time on our boat. When we finally packed it in for the night we had a delightful, restful night with very little noise (even though our friends on the Peepers said a party was happening near the lighthouse into the wee hours of the night). We’ll probably revisit the Dockside but we’ll definitely be extra cautious or hope that management has properly handled this safety issue.

I had the best time aboard The Ranita. Celebrating my birthday with an overnight stay. The boat was very spacious and nicely decorated. The check in was easy, the check out was easy. The bed was super comfy and entire boat was stocked with everything you’d need and more. I look forward to staying again…

This review is long overdue.
My boyfriend reserved a boat for us at Dockside around two years ago for a romantic weekend, and it was so wonderful! The staff is really sweet, the views especially at night are so romantic, and the yacht was so pretty and peaceful for relaxing, cuddling, and sleeping.
We did not reserve a yacht this weekend, but we visited some friends who did and seeing them here brought back so many wonderful memories.
If you get a chance, reserve a yacht a few months in advance for a nice alternative to a regular hotel and enjoy a wonderfully fun and romantic getaway.

This is a wonderful place to spend the night on a yacht if you’ve ever wanted to. Easy access from car to boat. Very nice management company. Great marina quiet and calm in the winter.
Love this so much! Very peaceful and relaxing. There is a nice variety of boats to choose from. They bring fresh OJ and fruit basket for the morning. The staff is very nice. If you have visitors that are going to book a hotel check this out also it might be a nice change. All kinds of species of birds. Romantic in the evening.

WOW! We stayed here on ⁵⁄₂ for my boyfriend’s birthday on the Indecent Proposal. We’d never stayed on a yacht before, but I can guarantee it won’t be the last time! The staff was awesome and the location can’t be beat. We had a few friends by to celebrate with us (not a party boat area by any means, but we’re a quiet group) and they all fell in love with the idea as well. In fact, we decided that EVERY birthday should be celebrated on a boat. We woke up to a basket of fresh OJ, bagels and fruit and the serenity of the location in the evening and the next morning was unparalleled. I can’t wait to return. Thank you, Dockside Boat and Bed, for making my boyfriend’s birthday so magical!

We stayed on the Ranita. I think this experience would have been more exciting for us if we weren’t so local. The quality of Ranita is so-​so. I wasn’t expecting a luxury boat but I guess I expected it to be less dated and cleaner. However, this was mentioned that it needed some upgrades during our mini tour of the boat. The kitchen is what I liked the least when looking through the cupboards to see what I could use. It was also mentioned that the upper deck was in dire need of upgrades and that we would probably enjoy the main deck more anyways (I don’t even know if that’s the correct terminology). I still checked out the upper area… there was leftover candy so I guess it’s heavily assumed that guests will not be using that part of the boat. (But just in case, I threw it away for ya!)
We did like sitting on the main deck (where the patio furniture is located) and enjoying the view.
Staff was nice. She was thorough and friendly. I had no issues with her.
The other guests were calm and quiet. No complaints there.
As I mentioned, I am a local resident– it wasn’t anything exciting for me. I wouldn’t come back again.

I rarely stay at hotels more than once, so us staying in this wonderful «hotel» for the third time should be a strong indication of how in love we are with the area, the boats, and the overall experience!
Dockside’s six yachts are nestled in the heart of Rainbow Harbor in Long Beach, and are just four minutes walking from Shoreline Village, across the bay from the famous Queen Mary, and across from the Long Beach Pike. Talk about «location, location, location.» Prices to stay in these docked luxury yachts are higher than typical hotel rooms, which is to be expected. They start at approximately $ 200+ night for the smaller yachts, and increase depending on the boat’s amenities and rooms. Indecent Proposal, which we stayed on, starts at $ 275 night and changes depending on season and the day of the week. I can’t stress how important it is to join their mailing list; they send out some unbelievable deals that can take quite the chunk off your fees.
All boats come with one or two rooms and bathrooms, a refrigerator/​freezer, televisions, cooking utensils, radios, and more. If you bring your own food, there’s absolutely no reason to leave the yacht. But there’s no need to bring breakfast: a small continental breakfast (OJ, muffin, yogurt, bananas, and a bagel) is included in the price and delivered for you to enjoy in the morning!
We have been fans of Dockside for several years now and have never had anything less than a stellar experience. We’re always given a reminder call the night before check-​in and asked if there are any ways they can make our stay more comfortable. We stayed in Ranita and Sea Peepers before, and since we make it a point to stay in different boats each time, we chose Indecent Proposal.
The moment we stepped on the dock, Molly was ready to help us settle in and gave us a thorough tour of the yacht, letting us know where everything from the toilet paper to the light switches were located.
I suggest paying the $ 10 to park about ten minutes away if you are able to walk. It’s a fun walk past some beautiful boats and gives you a bit of exercise, too! If you plan to leave your boat multiple times or have difficulty walk, then pay $ 24/​night for P.F. Chang’s valet.
Indecent Proposal was stunning inside. It had a massive eating/​entertaining area with a modern television and radio, a fully-​stocked kitchen with a coffee pot, microwave, and good-​sized refrigerator, a small bedroom with bunk beds that could easily fit three adults, a small bathroom, a master bedroom with a massive bed and older television, and a bathroom/​shower combination. Remember, you’re on a boat, so don’t expect a working stove or large bathrooms.
I didn’t want to spend too much time away from the yacht; after all, the whole point of a vacation is to relax. Think of it as a «staycation», but in someone else’s home.
It’s become a tradition of ours to sit out on the boat after dinner and late at night. We bundle up in scarves, beanies, blankets, and boots-​we are from California, after all-​and sprawl out. The Queen Mary’s smokestacks are decorated in lights that resemble diamonds and «Christmas trees» floated in the water, setting the perfect holiday mood. We started out on the bow of the boat, from where we are fairly certain we saw two dolphins. After it got too cold, we headed to the enclosed patio of the boat. We fell asleep with full stomachs and even fuller hearts.
After waking up, we decided to sit out for our meal. The ONLY thing I’d change about our boat would be for the «entertaining area» and back patio to be facing the water instead of the dock.
Checkout was at a reasonable 11a.m., which meant we wouldn’t have to rush too much getting out. Overall, it’s the perfect stay, and worth the price! From the wonderful staff, to the fully-​equipped beautiful boats, to the breathtaking location, Dockside truly has it all, and more!

My second time at the boat and bed. Everything was perfect. This time I had the chance to bring my family. It was an amazing experience for my parents, they loved it so much… we might purchase another one soon! So far I’ve stayed on the sea peepers & ranita.

Ive stayed at this place in 2012 and in May 2014. still the best yacht service ive seen! Theyre service never wears off! So polite with request and accomodating people! Its in the PERFECT location.
First time i stayed we stayed on the Sea Pepper from a groupon voucher. They fullfilled everything, never had any issues.
Second Time was even better, being on there email list they send specials and coupons! We got to stay on the Indecent Proposal this time (took place of the crown jewel) It was AMAZING. I cant explain it! Breakfast comes before they leave that night.
Home owened so the service is great. I brag about this place all the time.
I suggest Yard House or the Lousiana Creole food resturant for dinner. As well as the cantina for a late night happy hour.
I cant wait to schedule another stay here! My bf and I look foward to this trip everytime!

It makes me so sad to leave, but alas Sea Peppers we will see you next time. One of the most amazing experiences of my life I brought my girlfriend here for her birthday as a surprise and she was very surprised to say the least. The yacht was perfect and very clean they have all the necessities and more they bring you a little basket of continental breakfast in the morning right at your door which I have to say was the cherry at the end of my visit. Very helpful staff and welcoming I felt comfortable during my stay and also the bedding was perfect warm blanket ah I couldn’t ask for more I will definitely keep coming back.

The Boat to Nowhere… but I mean that in the nicest possible way.
It’s a floating hotel room that never goes anywhere. With most hotels, you should not spend much time in the room other than at night. Here, you should spend as much time as possible on board.
Our boat, Sea Peepers (don’t blame me for the name), was awesome. 2 sleeping areas, 2 bathrooms, a nice sized deck and a very nice sized living room.
If you are the least bit high maintenance, save yourself some money and stay home. If you are into a unique, relaxing experience and can roll with the punches (tiny bathrooms, etc.), you may have an amazing time.
Some notes: the fridge is very good sized. Also, it can get pretty noisy at night (the noise from the nearby restaurants and live entertainment carries loudly across the harbor). The Aquarium of the Pacific, 2 carousels, a Ferris wheel, amd tons of restaurants and touristy shops are all within a 5 – 10 minute walk from your boat.
A truly unique and memorable experience. We will be back.

This was a really great idea my friend’s mom had to rent the boat for her birthday. Tons of fun and not that expensive.

THIS IS BY FAR, BAR-​NONE, WITHOUT A DOUBT, INDUBITABLY ZZZZZ-​BEST overnight stay in Southern Cali!
What more can you ask for? There is water, a beautiful view, we have AWESOME weather most of the year and you get to stay on a FRICKIN boat all night!
I can’t remember how I found this place but I’m sure I was doing some sort of search and it fell in my lap! I am actually really surprised that more people do not know about them! They started this business up north in San Fran I believe and WHAT an INGENIOUS IDEA!
All the boats are owned by people and basically are NOT getting used so this company (family owned) rents them out to pay for slips, maintenance, and upkeep! WHAT an awesome deal for the owners! Why NOT make some money off of something you just couldn’t live without and NOW NEVER EVVVAA use. At least NOT enough to count for having it!
The price is not any more than staying at a nice hotel for a night! BUT you get WWAAYYYY MORE space and PRIVACY! NO humming coke machines, no loud ice cubes falling all night, no overly loud and drunk guest going up and down the halls all FRICKIN NIGHT, no having to listen to your neighbors farting in the next room because the walls are super thin, and no elevator dinging all FRICKIN NIGHT long! JUST PEACE and QUIET and the sound of water lapping against the boat!
I have had a few get together with friends which are allowed but NO PARTIES and your guest must vacate by 9pm! Once I had an all ladies Christmas gathering which was SUPER DUPER NICE! I catered and we exchanged gifts. I was SUPER LUCKY because it just so happen to be the same night as the boat parade! So we got to see all the boats lit up, decorated and floating by! We felt like we were actually on a friend’s boat! It REALLY TURNED OUT WONDERFUL! Plenty of seating and space depending on what boat you get!
I have also celebrated a birthday for someone and then a just because I wanted to do something different for myself! Each time was AWESOME and there were NEVER ANY ISSUES! The STAFF has ALWAYS BEEN SUPER ACCOMMODATING and PROFESSIONAL! You can book on line with NO PROBLEMS which works out well and they offer a parking deal once you go in to sign on the dotted line! Basically promising to NOT DESTROY the property and return it as you found it! Something MOST RESPONSIBLE ADULTS CAN ACHIEVE! If you DON’T fall into that category LOOK ELSE WHERE this is not the place for you! IN fact STAY YO AZZ AT HOME no one wants some DESTRUCTIVE TROLL on their property! H*LL I wouldn’t want you at my house!
There are about 6 different boats to choose from and each is priced differently and according to style and size! Certain seasons book up quick but they ALWAYS HAVE DEALS or LAST MINUTE SPECIALS WHICH ARE TOTALLY WORTH IT! I’ve seen deals via Groupon/​Living Social but they don’t come up often so if you see one GET IT QUICK! Once you book with them and they have your email address they will periodically send out specials deals via email. PRETTY AWESOME and usually just in the nick-​of-​time when I’m thinking about doing a stay-​cation!
IN the morning you are greeted with a YUMMY and FILLING BREAKFAST of OJ, muffins, yogurt and fruit! All the different boats I have stayed on have a coffee maker so you can make that as well! All the boats also come with a little snack basket! IT is NOT a meal but a nice to have the day you check in!
How GREAT to sit out on the deck of your sort-​of OWN boat in the morning and watch people as you eat your breakfast! People think you actually OWN the BOAT! IT’S GREAT!
There are plenty of places to eat for dinner or lunch the day or night before so once you check in there is NO NEED for a car! The PIKE has TOTALLY transformed to a WONDERFUL place to roam around! AND if you book in the summer you can take the water taxi to Belmont Shore Pier and to walk around or have dinner there or there is always the little city buses that go down to 2^nd street as well!
There are plenty of options to be had with the overnight stay and WELL WORTH your hard earned moola!

Although I wish I had a living social deal like most people did so that our stay could have been longer but oh well. Even at full price, it’s worth every penny :) I recommend this place! :)

2 days on the Crown Jewel (March 2013) — 4.25 stars
2 days on the Perfect Landing (August 2013) — 5 stars
Common elements to both stays:
— Easy booking online with confirmation and a personal call the day prior to my stay
— Seamless check-​in with friendly customer service and a quick mini-​tour of the boat and its features
(Follow the directions/​instructions on their website and you’re golden on check-​in.)
— Comfortable beds, clean sheets/​towels
— Lovely and generous continental breakfast basket (typically muffin, bagel, yogurt, bananas, apple and OJ) NOTE: I’m not big on the carb-​heavy breakfast, so I usually pack my own food and just enjoy the OJ and fruit :)
— a couple bottles of water and some individual creamers are usually in the fridge
— there is usually ice enough for a few; you may want to bring some if you’re having some guests over
— Easy to use, well-​maintained gas grill on the dock
The differences in our two stays:
–The Crown Jewel (as of August 2013, currently in Mexico for renovations, due back in early fall?)
DO stay on this boat if you love older things. If you have an appreciation for yesteryear, enjoy visiting historic homes, are a member of a Conservancy, etc. This boat is a real stunner and has a lot of original elements. It’s also quite large, and has a superior deck for entertaining.
DO NOT stay if you want ultra-​modern brand-​spanking newness and no signs of wear. There are other newer boats in the fleet at Dockside B&B.
We fall into the former category and LOVED the Crown Jewel, but would agree slightly with the reviewer who said the boat felt a little less than perfectly hygenic. While not dirty, it did feel like the boat could use a good top-​to-​bottom cleaning, and the master bath had an unpleasant odor that spilled into the master bedroom. I don’t know if it was the marine toilet or some unseen mildew or what, but it was a noticeable taint on an otherwise majestic old yacht. Hopefully this will be resolved during the restoration.
Our only other minor issue is that the Crown Jewel wasn’t very well stocked on dishware/​glassware. We had 4 people over for dinner and didn’t have flatware sufficient for 6. Glasses were a bit scarce, too, and no more than two matched. The operators apologized the next day and said they could have provided more (unfortunately the office was closed when we realized we were short.) The Perfect Landing was sufficiently stocked with complete flatware for at least 6, 4 wine glasses, 4 juice glasses, 4+ cups/​mugs, complete dishware for 4, and some extra small plates/​bowls such that you could probably make do to serve up to 6.
So my advice — when you check in, survey the kitchen and make sure you have sufficient supplies (paper towels, etc.) and sufficient dishware and utensils for your needs. If not, make a trip to the office before it closes and I bet they’ll be able to help out.

Took advantage of one of their deals and stayed on the Obla de Obla da for half off :)
I was on the Crown Jewel during my first visit. The Obla de Obla da is the most modern and newest yacht that they have. Everything was clean and modern. The yacht even had Direct TV while the other yachts did not. This yacht wasn’t as spacious as the Crown Jewel (about half as big as the Crown Jewel) but was definitely big enough for two while having a more spacious shower area.
The only negative about the Obla de Obla da was that 2 of the 3 TV’s were very fuzzy and barely watchable but that’s nitpicking since I didn’t watch much during my stay.
