This place is absolutely amazing. Alan and his team of employees have always exceeded my expectations. Genuinely kind, helpful, resourceful, and incredibly detail orientated. I’ve had parts fail on my snugtop over the last decade, and Discount Camper Shells have gone so far as to personally pick up necessary parts from Snugtop directly. If you have an issue with your shell, don’t «live with it» these guys will make it better than new. I always feel the prices are quite reasonable. I have loved some of the accessories I’ve bought like Yakima Racks, an easy tailgate lift, etc. So few companies believe in customer service, but this company does, I always feel like a VIP. I highly recommend keeping a $ 20 handy as I always feel the team deserves a big tip or pizza money.

Went in to get my third brake light hooked up on a used Snugtop I just purchased and it happened right away. It’s my first she’ll I’ve ever owned and I had a few question on the performance of the latches and windows. They checked them out, adjusted a few things and bingo, all is well. Thank you guys.

After I stupidly damaged the fiberglass of my tonneau cover, I stopped in to see if there was a fix, and how much it would cost. Alan informed me that the cover had a lifetime factory warraranty. They quickly removed the cover and shipped it to the factory. I received a call about two weeks later that my cover was ready for pickup. I made an appointment, showed up, and my cover was prompltly, courteously, and perfectly reinstalled; even the weather seal had been replaced at no charge. Yes, I’m stoked.

Took my Tacoma here because my old cap (Vern’s) started to leak in the rain. When Allen looked at it, he suggested that it could be repaired! I thought that was cool of him to try to save me money from having to by a new one. Unfortunately, none of the body shops in my area wanted to repair it. So I went back to Discount Camper Shell mainly because I now trusted Allen to not try to rip me off. I was right. He actually talked me out of the more expensive cap and convinced me to buy the cheaper one. Which made the most sense for my needs.
What was really cool was that my cap wouldn’t be ready in time for my big camping trip. Allen happened to have a camper that was identical to the one I was waiting for, so he loaned it to me! No Charge! He actually saved my trip and possibly my marriage, because I forgot my tent and my wife and I were able to sleep in the bed of the truck. It was really cold and windy that night, but we were comfortable. I still can’t believe I forgot the tent. Thanks again Allen.
When they installed the loaner camper onto my truck I went home and inspected there work. (I’m really picky about good workmanship). I crawled underneath the truck to checkout the wiring job they did. It was completely professional. I couldn’t have done it better myself. I checked the alignment of the camper to the bed of the truck and found it to be perfect. When I received my cap the alignment was perfect as well. These guys really care about what they are doing. Everyone spoke proper English not that gangster English that you come across so often. It was a really good and comfortable experience.
Don’t hesitate to come here for your cap or cover. You’ll be happy you did. It’s a father and son business that’s been there for a long long time. They were honest, fair, and hard-​working.

I was in the market for a camper shell for my truck. I called this company’s or assistance. I called based on their reviews and found them of little help and downright rude.

I have custom color Dodge Dakota that Mr. Alan Sims and his team wasted no time to order and correctly install a bed liner and a tonneau lid over the bed of my Dodge Dakota. The shells are made at a factory right here in Long Beach thus the turnaround time from the ordering until the day they came in was short. He called me the day it arrived and installed it as soon as I drove over to get it.
It fits perfectly, nice and snug with secure locks that keep the contents safe and secure within it. I have had numerous compliments from colleagues and even strangers coming to me to admire how nice the tonneau lid looks on the vehicle! You cannot believe how satisfied this customer is from the experience with Discount Camper Shells! My gas mileage has also improved dramatically with the aerodynamics with their tonneau lids. Additionally it worth noting here that he did not try to over charge me with little technical things, but rather treated me as though I was a family member and with dignity and respect. Something you receive much anymore from others.
The other day recently one of the two locks came apart and was missing. I took right in and one of Mr. Sim’s team replaced the two little pieces and secured them in with a shot of locking fluid so assure me that it would stay In place.

Just had my Snugtop Sl tonneau installed this morning. One of my easiest purchase not only Alan gave me a good price; they also made sure I was happy with the install and made sure everything was aligned perfectly.
Alan never up sell me with anything. Not like other places. He’s a great guy too-​he helped this young lady out that had car trouble push the young lady’s car and allowed her to park in their parking area while waiting for AAA. and check on her frequently to see if she’s ok. As one of the reviews says «these reviews are right on 99.9%» true. So don’t look any further. Would highly recommend them and will not regret it. Thanks Alan

I recently picked up a Snuglid tonneau cover used off of Craigslist. Everything was there… except the wedges that insert into the factory rails and allow the Snuglid frame to be bolted into the bed. These little guys are hard to find!
I arrived at the Discount Camper Shells website thanks to Google and spoke to Alan Sims. He was able to decipher what I was talking about (a confusing part to describe unless you really know your camper parts.) Alan offered to send me 8 of the wedges, not only with free shipping, but totally free. No cost. I offered a couple times to pay for shipping or the parts or both. Very cool. I wish my local camper store was this helpful.

Man! This place is a diamond in the ruff! All business with AWESOME customer service. If you want it done right, this is the place to go. Don’t waste your time with another place if you’re looking for a tonneau cover.

Just had them install a hitch, they did a great job (even though the hitch needed a little massaging to fit correctly). The price was reasonable and they are great friendly people to deal with.

Discount Camper Shells is the best. I called around for the best price on a tonneau cover 10 years ago and they beat the competiton. Not only that but they installed it perfectly.
When there was a warranty claim on my cover a few weeks ago they took it off, sent it back to the manufacturer and called me when it was ready. Alan and his crew provided excellent customer service and really took care of me. They didnt try and nickel and dime me. I would highly recommend them and SnugTop

They had a used lid for my truck so I drove up from SD. Got it at a great price and they installed it quick… I was on my way. These guys are legit, very friendly and go out of their way to make you happy.

I went by «Discount Camper Shells» after reading a few of the reviews here on Unilocal.I talked to Alan about fixing the locking mechanism and lifters on my Tonneau cover.
His attitude from the outset was «can do». He walked over looked at my truck for a couple of minutes, walked into his service bay and walk back to me stating «I got the parts I can do it». It is refreshing to see the simplicity of someone that doesn’t try to sell you anything or give you a bunch of mumbo-​jumbo…
I told Alan that I had another appointment and would be back within the hour he said with a friendly smile «That’s fine, I’ll be here». When I returned he fixed my truck within 15 to 20 minutes and I was on my way for a very reasonable price.
I say all this because I have gone in the past to have my Tonneau covers parts repaired at the place where I purchased the Tonneau cover «Fuller truck covers» in Fullerton.
I have been charged over twice the price that Alan charged me and it’s taken three times as long to do the work!!!
The other reviewers here on Unilocal are correct as Alan and his father run this tiny shop in Long Beach on the corner of Spring Street and Orange. I kick myself because I’ve passed by this shop a number of times and have never gone in.
Now that I’ve experienced the genuine people these guys are and the service level that they have given I will be returning there and recommending it to other people that are in need of a truck cover.
As I was waiting for my truck to be finished, several people came in to their yard to thank Alan again for the truck cover he installed on their vehicles and his kind way of being just a really good service guy. (This to me, is next to unheard of in this town or pretty rare at least)!!!
I am a bit of a wrench turner myself and when I see someone out there that gives good customer service with an honest attitude I want to make sure that I let as many people as possible know where they should go to get that level of service.
If you are thinking about a truck cover I hope you go by and give these guys a chance… And no I do not know them other than today’s customer experience.
Again, seeing the people (older and younger) that came by just as I was sitting there was pretty much «proof in the pudding» for me. Especially in this town of all too many scam artists.

This place is AWESOME! We needed a shell ASAP as we are leaving the state and waited until the last minute to get one for my b/f’s powerwagon, which are not easy to find. Alan found one, and had it shipped to his place in 1 day!!! Gave us an appt to come in to get it installed and we were done in under an hour AND IT WASTHE BEST DEAL WE COULD FIND ! prices are MORE than fair, and more importantly, the customer service os EXCELLENT !!! thank you Discount Camper Shells …:-):-):-):-):-)

Just acquired a 2007 Lincoln Mark LT as a company truck and it came already equipped with a Snugfit cover. However the locking mechanism was busted so I took it to these guys and they were super helpful. Alan got me in right away and began fixing the lock. It only took him 30 mins and during that time we got to talking and I found out that he’s half of a father /​son team who own the shop and have a combined experience of over 50 years of camper shell and overall truck knowledge. Alan is a straight-​up good dude and only charged me $ 50 for the fix. (He really could’ve charged me $ 200 more and I would’ve paid it) I also have a Nissan Frontier that needs a new bed cover, I’ll be taking it there soon!

I love loVE LOVE these guys! They are so awesome. They helped me put together 2 separate pieces for my truck that they didn’t even sell me. They are just good guys. They really WANT to help their customers. It’s a father-​son team. The father has been in the business forever and knows all. The son knows the answer to whatever you could possibly ask about trucks. These guys are a treasure. They truly want you to get the best deal possible. If they know that you can find something cheaper elsewhere– they’ll tell you! That never happens anymore. But it does here. They’re just GOOD PEOPLE.
