The University Student Union provides students with tons of options, services, food, and discounts.

Dining options include the Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, Subway, Sbarro’s, Robek’s, Carl’s Jr., El Pollo Loco, and the Candy Corner!

The USU also features Elektric Hair & Nail Salon, a Wells Fargo bank, and the Games Center.

History

Established in 1957.

1957: Soroptimist House is constructed and donated to Associated Students for use by student organizations. It serves as the first «college union» for the campus.

1965: Students approve a fee referendum to finance the construction and operation of a «student body center», later named the «University Student Union» through another student referendum.

1971: Construction of the University Student Union building is completed.

1995: Students approve a fee referendum to finance the renovation and expansion of University Student Union

1998: The $ 17M USU Improvement Project is completed, providing an additional 24,000 square feet to the facility.

Just finished the diversity in leadership conference held at Cal State Long Beach. This is a beautiful campus, the students are very lucky. They have a lot of different options for places to eat and hang out.
I had a great experience and everyone I met was wonderful.

I have yet to even utilize all the great things this student union has to offer. I’m a graduate student so sometimes I feel a little out of place as I only come to campus after 6pm and it can be pretty dead at that time but the student union has so much to offer from food, to study space, coffee! And evendors a bowling alley! It’s one heck of a student union.

This place needs a new makeover. It needs more tables and places to sit down and enjoy a meal. It’s a nice place to go sit down and relax between classes or on a break. It has games room and activity room and a TV everywhere you go. It has a bowling alley and pool tables which would make a hang out with your friends fun in school. Surprising.

Parking lot 17 was difficult to locate … It’s hidden behind other parking lot… Frustrating for a first time student! It would be really nice if they would make larger signs… but it’s a nice campus… Hoping I will be attending here next fall for MSW Program!

After studying and working on the CSULB campus for many years, I can easily say that I have spent a large amount of time in this giant building, exploring its different parts as the years went on. The USU was definitely my go-​to place on campus when I needed to get some lunch/​coffee, study, or just relax!
As far as food goes, the USU offers several food/​drink places (Subway, El Pollo Loco, Carl’s Jr., Robeks, Coffee Bean), and plenty of seating to enjoy whatever you choose. Although these aren’t the only food places on campus, I found myself here a lot between classes and on lunch breaks.
I also found that the USU was a great place to study or simply relax on my laptop. There is a study room downstairs that I made use of many times, and then there are also many comfy chairs spread throughout the building that make great study companions.
There are many other things to do here for fun (like video games, pool, bowling), but honestly, I never used them. But people seemed to be having fun whenever I walked by!

as a student of csulb, the usu is one of my favorite facilities on campus — it is the ideal place to go if you want to eat some yums, chill with friends, or even just take a nap! there are pool tables, bowling lanes, pingpong tables, an art exhibit, multiple lounges, gaming rooms, and MORE! you can study, eat, play, and hangout here. i love this place.
the only thing that’s bad about it is that it’s super crowded during the middle of the day so sometimes, it’s hard to find seats to sit at when eating, especially if you’re with a big group of friends. the restaurants here are pretty standard, just some fast food stuff, nothing fancy.
but overall, i really like this place because there’s so much stuff to do here and the facilities are really nice. YAY

I love this place. This has always been my go to spot to hang out during my breaks.
On the bottom floor, there are places where you can just sit, relax, study, and watch TV.
They also have pool tables and a bowling alley (that is hardly used).
The second floor has a Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf, a Robeks, a Sbarros, even a place called Electrik where you can get a haircut!
The top floor is mainly food places that include a Dominos, Surf City, and Panda Express.
All floors are always clean and have a wonderfully friendly custodial staff.
I come here just to study and get a quick bite to eat but the only reason why this place will not get 5 stars out of me is the seating. At times it is VERY difficult to find a seat because there are so many students who have breaks at the same time as I do. If they added more seat in here I would definitely give the USU an extra star.

I prefer eating here than at upper campus. Here they have Subway, Pollo Loco and Carls jr. But that is only one aspect of the USU. There are many options for students to relax between classes. There are pool tables, ping pong tables and even a bowling alley. You can also rent video games and play they at the Sticks lounge. I went down there a few times to whoop some people in Gears of War 2.
The only drawback is that it is so popular. It can get pretty crowded, especially in the eating area.

Currently writing this review because it’s finals week and I believe a distraction is required at this point. The union is awesome, and always has been. It’s my go-​to place for naps, and for a quick snack between classes. I do wish the Beachnet signal in the study rooms on the first floor actually worked, and the room closest to the stairs on the first floor’s air conditioning is turned up way too high all the time. I wish the food selection was healthier, but considering that this is college, healthy is kind of irrelevant. It would be nice if the restaurants in the union were open later, but I don’t really mind, because I just end up going to the Beach Hut over by the library.

As a prospective or current student, it’s important to know what the student union has to offer, you’d be surprised at the services that are readily available to you & your organization.
In short, the USU provides places and resources for you to study, eat (El Pollo Loco, Subway, Carl’s Jr, Robek’s, Sbarro, Coffee Bean, Candy Corner), a Wells Fargo bank on campus, Chase and BofA ATMs, arcades, bowling, table tennis, and pool, an outdoor pool with tables and showers, K-​Beach radio, USU program council, and even a hair salon on campus:

As a current student at the CSULB I have access to the USU building-​where the magic happens and the fun begins! PINGGG PONGG for only $ 1/​hour (we were there for over an hour, but only charged for one). What a DEAL!
They have two ping pong tables-​butterfly brand! LEGIT! Loads of pool tables, a piano, study rooms, foosball, 12 lanes bowling alley (and cosmic), movies, and they even have a lounge for the videogamers. Something for everyone.
At the student union they have snacks, candy, and drinks you can buy.
Although I hate coming to school when I do not have to, I think i’ll be here every Friday just for the ping pong table. If you’re there come and challenge me.
This place is also open to the public, just different pricing =) They take credit/​debit only with $ 5 min. purchase btw!
They are not open on the weekends but on Fridays it’s open until 10pm.

if you parked too far, didn’t pack a lunch, can’t stand the line at the nugget,
come to the union :)
they have subway, carls jr. el pollo loco, coffee bean, robeks, a candy counter, and even more options in the courtyard.
you have mtv on 2nd the floor, and TBS or sports game on the 1st floor.
there’s always something going on in the ballrooms or beach auditorium, so come check it out and support your student clubs, etc.
oh, they also have a swimming pool, billiards, ping pong, and a new games station with wii & xbox.

Ping… PONG… Thank god for the ping pong tables, that allows me to train myself for the olympics in table tennis. (I wish) But, it’s the cool chill spot to be, whether you be playing pool, bowling, 360, Ps3, Wii? or if your like me ripping sh*T up in ping pong. Or you can come and chill out watch tv on the comfy chairs.
P.s I took a star off because the tables are usually always full, and they happen to give my friend the wrong I.D. card when we were returning equipment. And you thought all Asians look alike? NOPE, all white people look alike. hah

I remember this place… many hours did I spent here between classes. They have nice chairs and are always updating the place between semesters. New restaurants, new bigger TVs, special give aways during football seasons…
The couch-​like chairs aren’t really good for sleeping, but it you slouch far enough, you can make it work. The chairs each have a swinging table thingy that you can use to hold your food. It’s pretty hard to find a seat during lunch hour. And they usually have MTV reality shows playing.
The place that has a pool outside with changing rooms that all my years there, I have probably seen 10 people used it. They have a bowling alley (for classes too) that you can pay to play, as well as pool tables, table tennis, and an arcade in a separate glass room. Every once in a while, they have special events with special giveaways.
That was all on the first floor, and there are too many things on the second floor, but there IS a bar up there.
