Beautiful campus (very clean), great teachers, a lot of squirrels, good food… my only complain really is that as an international student it was expensive and I did not receive enough help in regards to how some things work in this country/​culture that is different than mine. Besides that I loved it! Go Beach!

There’s a Boeing laboratory on campus. If you’re doing engineering, drop off your application. Phenomenal opportunity!

…so…the professors clearly don’t know what it’s like to be sick basically ²⁴⁄₇. I have intervals between instances of sickness, but I get sick a lot, and the professors don’t take too kindly to being ill *cough cough MATH 115* *cough cough*

I did not have a good experience attending CSULB. I attended in 1997 for my masters degree in psychology. I completed all of the coursework for my degree, and had the option of taking an exam or writing my thesis. I made the mistake of choosing the thesis. I take full responsibility for my choices in life, however, in this instance I DO HOLD CSULB RESPONSIBLE for me not obtaining my masters degree. I did not have the support I needed from the school or the department to finish my thesis. My advisor was an older woman that I figure was close to retiring, as she spent her time sitting in her office smoking cigarettes instead of actively participating with students. I should have fought harder at the time to get something to change, so I could obtain the degree I paid them for.
While attending I heard that this school has a high rate of students not obtaining their degrees. It sucks to be part of the statistic.
Recently I went online and called to get an unofficial transcript only to find out that previous year students cannot order unofficial transcripts. You have to pay for official transcripts, and wait a week and a half to receive them in the mail. CSULB is behind other schools in so many ways.
I did my undergrad at a UC school in California. If you have the choice, go to a UC school. I found that it’s a better system, and I believe you will get a better education.

I give this campus a C-​. I have a BA in Psychology and a MSW. It’s hard to generalize on such a large place. The only redeeming value is the professors. Mostly miss, some hits.
The institution itself is overpriced and out to squeeze every dime out of its students. Parking, books, food, events, late fees… The list goes on and on. There is nothing that is reasonably priced. They gauge at every step.
Basically a conveyor belt of mediocre students who can’t get into a better university, taught by teachers who are stuck in job security, ran by administrators who clean up a turd to hopefully one day give themselves a pay raise.
It’s all what you make of it. If you’re lucky, you’ll find a few teachers who are gems and can give you some good memories.

I started here in 2014 and I’m an international studies major. This campus is fine. I mean, it’s just a place to go to class. Didn’t really take advantage of the «student life», but if you’re school oriented and you want to get out as fast as possible, then this school is fine. If I could talk about professors and classes, this would be a whole different review. They do have two Starbucks so if you need some caffeine, you’re in luck. Library is ALWAYS crazy. As in, it’s always full. So don’t premeditate to study there during the peak school hours because you will NOT find a seat. The campus bus is amazing! I’ve only been on it once as an experiment and it was really interesting. A bit confusing because each bus has its own routes and they don’t go around the whole campus so you have to get on the right one. You’ll get the hang of it eventually. Just take a good hour extra before you need to be anywhere if you take the campus bus because it take 15 minutes or more to get to where you want to be.

There are always going to be a few admin issues like parking and slim food options with universities. but as far as education goes, I don’t have a single complaint! Every instructor I’ve had at CSULB has been phenomenal! The campus is beautiful and something is always going on! GO BEACH!!!

This is my old stomping grounds. I love the environment. I love the old style buildings. I love the grassy areas in the center of the campus. I enjoyed events at the pyramid. I liked attending dances at the Carpenter Performing Arts Center. I liked the variety of trees along the parking lots, and the comfortable vibe I got when on this campus. It is a large campus, however. But, there are plenty of parking lots at various locations around the campus. There are plenty of eateries to enjoy as well. There is always vendors selling items, small performances, and activities going on for your pleasure. I liked my time here for undergrad so much I went back for one of my graduate degrees. Still, I loved it.
I think the campus could be more diverse. This is my only issue. There is no football team, which I think keeps a lot of students away. It’s probably intentional on behalf of CSULB, but who knows?! :)

Do not send your child here for pre nursing they allow transfer students to come in and edge the existing students out of the positions for nursing program. cal state fullerton shows loyalty to existing students and does not allow a transfer to take priority over a student who has been going to their college. just a heads up we found out the hard way.

I was in the class of 2013. I had a great experience here at CSULB. I agree with the posts saying the campus was well-​maintained. They kept it clean and well kept.
The professors I had were caring and well-​educated. In my time there, I only disliked 1 professor so pretty good odds you’ll get a good professor.
I didn’t live on campus and commuted the whole time. Parking is what parking is at most other universities. So no complaints there. The shuttles were helpful.
All in all, I will always have fond memories of my time at CSULB!

Love the faculty and administration in the Family and Consumer Sciences department, and most of all the students! Keep up the great work FCS at CSULB.

I wish I never left this university. Unfortunately, I was not too fond of their history department but I loved everything else about this campus. I attended this school for over two years and lived on campus for one of those years.
One of the things I loved most about this campus was the fact that they have an American Indian Studies program. Took various classes within this department. Its ironic that when i transferred out they had absolutely no transfer value for credit, yet these classes have had the most profound impact on my life. I have studied at two other institutions since leaving csulb but no other classes have been as enjoyable as those I took in the AIS department.
This campus is also remarkably clean — from the bathrooms to the neatly trimmed grass, this school is visually appealing. The campus is big and spread out so its never too crowded and there are lots of places to discreetly smoke. My favorite spot was behind the art building or at Puvungna. I didnt feel comfortable around all the sorority girls in my dorm and spent lots of time at these spots. The campus allowed my loner stoner spirit to be free.
Despite being cynically anti-​social with the white girls in my dorm, I liked living on campus. The dorms were clean (thank you maintenance lady) and had nice common areas. I probably put in a few pounds eating at the cafeteria. Most of the food was good, and the carnitas were the best I have had in my life, not too greasy but still juicy and tender. Breakfast was always bomb and i loved the frozen yogurt machine.
This university has lots of student resources and organizations that are worth checking out. I especially loved the fact that there was an intercampus shuttle and late night service to escort you to your dorm.
Definitely miss this place.

I love this university. I couldn’t be happier with deciding to attend Long Beach. The campus is beautiful and not too spread out like some other campuses that make getting to your next class a total nightmare.
Parking is okay. It just depends on what time you come during the day. If you’re a student, you get to go to all sporting events for free and there are a ton of good places to eat on campus.
The professors in my field have been really good and fortunately, I haven’t dealt with a ton of the typical indoctrination that goes on like a lot of 18-​year old freshmen usually do but regardless, love it.

I just graduated and I already miss The Beach! When you’re just entering you really do not appreciate at all, but when you leave you come to realize how truly lucky you were to attend CSULB. I’ve visited other CSU campus and I can honestly say our campus is the cleanest and most beautiful CSU campus. I only had one horrible professor here. Saenz, teaches Film and Spanish classes. AVOID HER! She is horrible, other than that all my professors have been so friendly and have helped me succeed. They are all so passionate about their jobs and their students. I’ve studied in other parts of the world, and I am blown away by the quality that CSULB has to offer especially compared to elite universities in Europe. I know that sounds impossible, but trust me. One semester abroad will make you long for your days at CSULB.
CSULB is amazing. One of the best school in California.

I mainly use the facilities here for volleyball tourneys and they are always clean and in good working condition. My only gripe would be for the parents watching there isn’t enough room for them to sit.

but nothing compares to the environment CSULB provides to its students.

–it is a large campus. if you have never been here, I suggest printing out the map online. My first day, I got off at the wrong stop and had to walk up a hill to the library.
–parking lot? there’s parking spaces here? lol (take an über/​ride the bus and save yourself the time)
–no, we are not apart of the Illuminati, that is just the Walter Pyramid and girls love taking pictures in front of it
–the professors are very passionate about what they do and want to see you succeed. the quality of education meets the tuition cost!
–we have a starbucks and pub on campus which is cool as hell :-)
–classes are hard here sometimes, but isn’t that college in general?
GO HARD OR GO HOME. Take pride in what you do and appreciate your college experience.

What a beautiful campus! Everything is so well maintained and beautifully landscaped!
The campus is huge. If you’re coming here for your first time, you will probably be overwhelmed lol.
There are many entrances such the bellflower entrance, the atherton entrance, the 7^th street entrance, and the palo verde entrance.
The parking structures are always packed unless you’re an early bird. The structure closest to the palo verde entrance is the least crowded. And its closest to the Rec center. Daily parking permits range from $ 2 and up.
There are several food places and coffee places on campus. The bookstore is crowded during the start of the semester and the end of the semester.
The rec center is really nice. Students pay for it along with their tuition and non-​students can sign up for a membership.

Well I’am finally graduating from CSULB and I think I can make a correct estimate of the art department here. The art department is a God forsaken place. It is purgatory for artist that have strong passions only to be extinguished by the Art Nazi like instructors here. This is an art department where you can get a lot of criticism for your art but never proper training or direction to make you a better artist. I’am an illustration slash animation major and sadly I feel very under prepared for the careers I’m interested in.
The department is stuck in the 1950s where hand drawing was prized. Digital training here is no where to be found, maybe one or two classes at most. At the same time you have favoritism for the selection of BFA candidates. I’ve been told by instructors that selection isn’t based on rules but how the instructors feel for the student submitting the portfolio.
The advisers are even far worse than the instructors here. They are a group of art snobs (or slobs, you take your pick) who think they know a thing or two about art, but cannot create a straight line if they had a prayer. Note non of these advisers are art majors and because of them many of my peers did not get the fair chance to apply to the BFA program. Transfer students are treated like garbage here.
All I have to say is im glad that this living nightmare is almost over. I will continue to seek out other ways to be trained for where I’m lacking. I don’t want to say all is bad about the department because we have a talented amount students that make the program at least something to talk about. The talented students are what keeps the illusion that this schools art department is worth it. It’s a talent search in every class instead of a discipleship to build your skills.
Also there are a small amount of teachers I can say I was proud to be taught by Siobhan (intro to painting), Kim Dwinell (Animation) and Peter Zokosky (human Anatomy for the artist). If you do come here look for these names, these are teachers who will go the extra mile to help you learn and get better at your craft. Other teachers not so much, I honestly feel they need to fire and hire a whole new department there. There is a lot of telling you what to do here not showing how to do it.
