History

Established in 1966.

by Dr. James Loos and Dr. Eldor Sagehorn, this practice has treated multiple generations of families. Today, Dr. Thao Nguyen is the third generation of USC-​trained orthodontists to continue the proud tradition of providing excellent orthodontic care and top-​notch service to families in and around Long Beach.

Dr. Nguyen is great! Very informative and knowledgeable. I felt very comfortable with her treating my son and I myself decided to get my teeth straightened with invisalign. I am very happy with my results thus far. The office as a whole is awesome, very professional and attentive. All appointments are on time. I highly recommend Bloom Orthodontics.

We love Dr. Katsura and Co., It’s the office manager who is rude and unprofessional.
We have been through many teens with braces going to this office, but NO LONGER! She should take college courses on how to speak to patients, her 30 years of experience doesn’t help her or this office! I feel sorry for the Dentists here who are loosing patients due to a front office staff. When I called I was asked «who are you» and I let her know it was rude and unprofessional, she just continued speaking and ignoring me! Good Bye forever! I will be letting everyone know at the local schools not to take their kids here! Hire a new office manager!

I came in to get my teeth whitened, I get my trays in a few days, so I will update with pictures to follow.
Pros:
–attentive office staff
–Dr. Nguyen is great at explaining the procedures and directions on mouth at home care
–friendly environment
–complimentary breakfast pastries and fruit platter
–professional setting
–overall open availability/​accommodating for scheduling appointments
Cons:
–none! Would recommend to anyone needing to get braces, Invisalign, etc. and teeth whitening

Dr. Katsura is leaving his practice. Sad to say with his mothers illness — he is going to Japan. We will miss his smiling face and welcoming disposition to all his patience. There is a new ortho in his place — Dr Nguyen, very quite person — not as outgoing as Dr Katsura — but Dr Katsura gave her high accolades on her resume. My son has two months left and his braces are removed. For which we are both glad as we put our trust in Katsura — he did great by both my children.

I had an appointment with Dr. Katsura on 9÷10÷13. One big problem: I arrive at the office and the RUDE, UNPROFESSIONAL receptionist says, «Dr. Katsura is in Japan, so you can’t see him.» She didn’t even apologize for canceling the appointment (after I was already standing there)! Is it too much to ask for a 20 second phone call? It’s as if they don’t care about their clients/​patients at all! Needless to say, I don’t trust a man that can’t keep his schedule in order (or that takes sporadic vacations to Japan) to work on my teeth. I definitely would NOT recommend this place to a friend.

It’s nearing the end of my treatment and I couldn’t be happier with my results! Dr. Katsura & Dr. M are both excellent doctors and their staff is just as kind. I received a consult from another local orthodontist office and realized fast it was all about the $. Not the case with this office, in fact I was never asked once throughout my 3 year treatment for a payment; I just paid as I went. If you’re looking for a down to earth, family oriented, professional orthodontist office… this is definitely the place for you!

Having Dr. K as my orthodontist was a lot of fun. He was chatty and always made you feel comfortable. I looked foreword to all of my appointments and left with a smile. He and his staff did a great job and they always included you in their conversations. I love my smile. Thanks Dr. K!

The absolute worst facility, and staff I have encountered. I Showed up for my appointments on time regularly and made all my payments, BUT… they consistently saw other patients before me with later appointments. My last checkup I waited an hour an fifteen minuits… for a tightening! A ten minute procedure. Watched the doctor work on everyone that was suppose to be after me. When asked why I had to wait so long, the doctor said that patients who pay are top priority… when I first came to Dr Katsura, a payment plan was established and I was garunteed braces for only two years (knowing thats what most say). At about 2 years I completed my payments for what was agreed. FOUR YEARS have passed, and this is how he treats a patient for work he had not completed. I waited so long one day I missed my doctors appt. following that one and had to pay 185 $ for missing it. (1 ½ hours apart). For the sake of your time and money, I HIGHLY sugest someone more profesional.

Okay, we all know having braces is not so fun. But, the experience is not so bad if you go to this office. My son has ADHD and he kept breaking brackets the first year. They were so patient and kind. The office is very friendly and low key. I honestly can say that I will miss seeing them! Most important is the outcome. His teeth and overbite are corrected. His teeth look SMASHING… radiant, gorgous! Dr. Katsura is very gentle & kind and his front desk staff are lovely.

Great office and all the staff is very friendly. They have a great selection of magazines for the kids and the parents and they always have a fabulous fruit platter and danishes and bagels out for the patients and families. Dr. Katsura is very soft spoken but very friendly and is very informative. He will come out to the waiting room and ask my two little ones if they like their magazine selection and offers them fruit or danishes. All in all, I think they are a great office and they’re orthodontic work is top notch.

Great experience with this Orthodontist. They are great with children. They explain what they will do, how much it will cost and deliver quality results. They wait on patients in a very reasonable time of their appointment. The staff is helpful and friendly. They provide great quality snacks and coffee/​tea, etc. while you wait.
