Cathy is very nice and friendly. This is the first time I leave a review on Unilocal.I had to because her service was outstanding!
She tailored my wedding dress for about $ 45. The price was so reasonable and the result was amazing too. She was so nice that she fluffed up the flower decorations on the dress too =)
The service was super quick also. I took in the dress, she took about less than 5 min to figure out what she needs to do, then finished it within a week…
I’ll def recommend this place!

I was really optimistic about visiting Cathy after reading the great reviews, but I had a bad experience and unfortunately won’t be returning.
I brought Cathy a bridesmaid dress that I needed taken in. Nothing too special about the dress, just a typical chiffon floor length dress. But, to be fair, it was a big job as the dress was a size 14, and I had since lost so much weight that I am now about a size 4.
I visited Cathy the first time, and she said she needed to take in the sides first, and that I needed to return once the sides were taken in so she can measure the hem. The price of taking in the sides was $ 30 (cash only).
So I returned the second time, and she measured the hem, and we scheduled the day I would come in to pick up the dress. Taking up the hem was another $ 50. I returned the following week to pick up the dress and I tried it on. The under layer was sticking out way longer than the chiffon layer, so I had to leave the dress with her again so she could fix it. I returned again today, and she had it bagged up for me ready to go. When I told her I wanted to try it on, she seemed a little surprised as she said all she did was fix the hem and that I had already tried it on last time. Well good thing I insisted on trying it on again, because the under layer was STILL sticking out! She told me to go run an errand so she could fix it. I returned 30 minutes later and picked it up. I didn’t try it on because I am so annoyed by the whole situation. If the under layer still sticks out, I’m just going to take it somewhere else.
Total # of times I had to go — 5
Total cost — $ 80
Sorry, but it really wasn’t worth it.

Cathy really is amazing. I had to bring in my multi-​paneled and multi-​layered chiffon bridesmaids dress one week before my sister’s wedding. She stayed open way past her business hours to accommodate me and took the time to pin each layer without rushing through it.
She is so incredibly sweet and took the time to examine how each layer fell with my body. The dress was ready when she said it would be and she even added hanger tags to the dress because they didn’t have them and she didn’t want the delicate straps to break.
A job I was expecting to be $ 80 only cost me $ 45. Very glad to have found a wonderful tailor and seamstress.

Cathy is one awesome sewing queen! I had a couple of my dresses hemmed by her. Looks great on me. No problems.
Sew and So is a cute little place. Decently priced and excellent professional service… you will not be disappointed by her very detailed and thorough work.
Cathy and I are already thinking of ideas for Halloween costumes. I can’t wait to come back to have her make it. I will return!

Very friendly and non stressful environment for learning to sew on your own machine. I used to sew a bit, but with no proper training. My current machine didn’t seem to want to do what I wanted it to do and so it was frustrating. A few lessons later, I know my machine so much better and I am back on track and actually take my sewing machine out for projects at least weekly for FUN! This is thanks to Cathy being very supportive and making things enjoyable.
I would recommend her for new sewists and people like me who might have sewn in the past but never really got anywhere, you’ll improve and enjoy it. She really does have mad skills and is happy to share.
Cathy is also very professional when it comes to alterations and does beautiful work on costumes.

Cathy is a sewing rockstar! She takes absolute pride in her work and is a master at her craft. I brought in a suit that needed the sleeves brought in about 1″ but it was constructed in a way where the buttons would get in the way of the sewing machine. She wasn’t sure how she was going to do it but she said that she would figure it out. When I returned, Cathy solved the problem by taking the time to hand stitching everything! Looked perfect! Highly recommended!

I highly recommend Sew and So. Let’s put it this way, I took my daughter’s Prom Dress first to Del Amo Tailors and she was going to charge me more than I paid for the dress for alterations… I walked out… A co-​worker recommended Sew and So, so we went over there, Kathy was very professional, very personable, and the price charged was 50% less than Del Amo Tailors. Go Here !!!

Kathy is AWESOME. I recently signed up for her sewing class. I have never sewn a day in my life! Not only is she teaching me how to sew, but I am also learning special applications, and to create my own patterns. Every time I go I come out feeling like I have learned so much. I think that sewing is a lost art, and Kathy is doing a great service by teaching these classes.
She also creates custom costumes, slipcovers, make dresses prom and otherwise. She will recreate your favorite piece, repair the hole in your suit, or hem your favorite pants. I saw some work she did to fit vintage clothing to a new shape. Not only was it great work, but it was one of a kind and so cute.
Anyone who is in the area should stop by and check her out. Great lady, great service. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!

A little house transformed into a charming shop with a fairy godmother who does magic with alterations.

I can’t say enough great things about Kathy at Sew And So. Sweet, personable and talented. She is a one woman band and is as good as it gets. Read the other reviews to get a better idea of all her services. All I know is I was sick of the service and prices of the Dry Cleaner/​Tailors in my neck of the woods so I found her here on Unilocal and am soo happy.
I needed my tuxedo pants let out for Valentine’s. Valentine’s Day was still 4 days away, but I explained I was slammed at work and that it would be difficult to get there before she closed over the next few days. I dropped them off at 4:30…she called me back at 5:30 and told me she wanted to make sure I could get them and would have them ready in the morning by the time I was leaving for work. I didn’t even have to ask.

I decided to go to Backfence sew and so because I need an alteration done asap and it is located a few blocks from work. Cathy is a super sweet and helpful lady! She did a great job taking in my dress and also giving me a little more padding in the bust… totally her idea but it fit perfectly! ;) Cant beat the price either! I will be back for more alterations! Thanks Cathy!

Cathy was fantastic at altering my $$$$ jeans. She took them in, and they looked great. She also told me when she would have them ready (I didn’t even have to ask her).

Not only does the seamstress/​owner, Cathy Ferges, provide basic services, she has an unusual knack for creativity and style. As an accomplished creater of costumes for Tahoe showgirls, entire wedding parties, junior miss competitions, high school plays, she has also livened up my wardrobe by designing a new look for me in both my business career as well as my casual outfits.
