Spenker Winery

We stopped by this winery during the Wine & Chocolate Festival, Feb. 13 – 14, 2016.
It’s a small, family-​owned winery, and the first thing I noticed was how friendly everyone was. In addition, they had the cutest little winery dog, just cruisin’ in a chair. (Bonus points from me when wineries have cool dogs)!
They were only pouring 3 wines during this event, and since we do t drink white wines, we tried the 2 reds that we have. Both were very good. I especially liked the Petite Syrah.
Their wines are very reasonably priced — the reds were $ 25 – 26 per bottle. We didn’t buy any of the wines, as we had ready bought quite a few at other wineries, but I would definitely recommend this place and come back again next time I’m in town.

I had heard so much about the Morning Glory wine so I decided to come here during wine and chocolates this year. It was actually our first stop on Saturday. WINERY: My first impression was that the winery was a little small and really quiet. In my opinion some ambiance music would have been nice (especially during an event). Walking up we were greeted. (which is always nice) WINE: I finally got to try the Morning Glory which was very good for a dessert wine! And I also tried the Petite Sirah, which was also very tasty. I didn’t try the Zin because I’m not into Zins… yet. I enjoyed the Morning Glory so much that I decided to buy a glass and also one for my mom. I paid $ 5 each glass, which is normal, but when we went to get our «glass» the girl said they didn’t sell by the glass… yet? Hmm weird I thought because the lady just gave us a glass so that we can get a «glass» of wine. So she asked and the lady confirmed. So… I get my «glass» (mind you this glass was not your normal size wine glass. It was probably half the size) and we get less then half of the glass filled! It was like a tasting size! I expected to have the glass filled to the top since this would equal half a glass of a normal size wine glass. I’m not sure if the girl was new or just helping out the event, but people should at least get their money’s worth. Despite all this I wouldn’t mind going back to purchase a bottle or 2 of either wines and pour myself a nice big glass! :)

Small family run operation. Dad is the vineyardist and Mom is the winemaker. One sister designs the labels and the other is front of the house. All of their wines are estate grown, focusing mostly in Zin. They also had a very nice Petite Sirah and a very nice white that are also estate grown. The wines are all very good and the daughter pouring couldn’t have been more friendly.

I found Spenker Winery somewhat by accident on a recent trip to Lodi. They are located on the Southwest side of Lodi which is often overlooked by most visitors. Spenker is very small with only a tiny tasting bar in the corner of the warehouse, but this is a great opportunity to experience the smaller, more intimate side of the Lodi wine scene.
They focus on zinfandel and petite sirah and both were very good with a great taste of the local estate grapes. It is fun to taste how small changes in soil and climate can affect the same grape. The winery is also cute at the end of a shaded lane with a barking dog guarding his owner against those strange cars invading his space! Just pay attention to the road when looking for the place; you may miss it!

Small indoor winery that has tasty wines. We got a couple bottles and brought them home with us to the east coast. They held up well and were still really tasty.

Very friendly, family owned winery… The wines were flavorful and the family was warm and friendly to talk to. I really recommend it for a nice, homey experience.
