Sheri’s Sonshine Nutrition Center

I love this little shop! Yes, it is more expensive than a drug store or online but I am willing to pay more because they have the selection I need and I can trust that their product isn’t old or sat in high heat. I like to be able to trust my vitamins and this shop offers that trust. They’re VERY knowledgeable, you can come in and say exactly what you need a vitamin for and they’ll direct you to a great product. I absolutely love the vitamins they suggested, I haven’t stopped taking them since. If you have questions about your vitamins or, like me, are willing to pay for the good stuff then this is the shop for you.

This is the only place I can find raw, vegan, non GMO vitamins so I really like this place .
Today I was pretty upset because I forgot if I normally get the regular b or b12. While I was running around the store trying to remember, I was annoyed because no one seemed to want to help me out. It doesn’t help that I’ve been pretty impatient these days.
As I was pacing back and forth through different aisles, I kept thinking «I hope they check their Unilocal,because they’re going to hear from me !» Finally, Judy comes up to us asking if we’ve been helped. You already know, I wanted to tell her that their customer service sucks but I got distracted once she told us she was a Gemini. She directed me to the right vitamin after telling me that they can look you up on their system which will also inform you what your past purchases were. THEN, I met Jackson! Wat up, cowboy? He was super helpful and I realized he’s really attentive when it comes to customers. While he and I were talking up a storm, he easily forgot to help other customers walking in so I understood why their customer service seemed a bit off, they really focus on one customer at a time until they’re done. I get it, now. No bad review for you guys! Lol
This store carries bulk items, non GMO grocery items, vitamins, meal replacements, and natural energy drinks/​supplements. You know I’ll be back :)

The short: Needed some random grain for a dish and didn’t want to drive all the way to Sac to Whole Paycheck for it and surprise Sheri’s had it!
The long: I was surprised when I moved to Lodi that there was a specialty nutrition shop there. Sure it is small and it isn’t going to have everything you are going to need, but just the fact that there is one and you have access to some of those specialty rare items is a bonus. I needed a specialty grain for a dish for my wife’s lunch and didn’t want to make a long drive to Sac and checked with Sheri’s and was happy to find they had it. The staff was really friendly and offered up some suggestions on substitutions for other items I was looking for. I rarely need these types of items, but when I do I think I’ll have to keep Sheri’s in mind.
What works: Specialty nutrition in a small town at a reasonable price
What to improve: Not too much you can ask from from this type of store in a town this size.

I went into Sheri’s looking for a good liquid vitamin and a probiotic. I was amazed at the knowledge of the employees at Sheri’s. I left feeling really good about the product that I bought and with many printouts/​handouts about other things that I inquired about.

I would like to give more stars here, because the staff is friendly and informative. The location is good, right in downtown Lodi. Though at certain times of day, the parking can be a little frustrating, if you just need to run in and make a quick purchase.
Really my only issue with Sheri’s Sonshine Nutrition Center is they don’t stock all the health products/​vitamins I use. So I still need to go to Whole Foods Market or the Health Food store in Lincoln Center in Stockton. All in all, a nice clean friendly health food store in downtown Lodi.

I’m not sure why people love this store. I’ve tried shopping here multiple times and every time I go in there is something different that annoys me. So I will be going to stockton to a store that consistently provides wonderful professional customer service.
My latest and final attempt to shop at Sheries was actually embarrassing. I was looking for a vitamin supplement and asked the woman at the counter where it was located in the store. As she was helping another customer she told me I would have to wait for help. I got that but since I was late for a medical appointment I asked her if she could just point me in the right direction so I could search myself. She would not. So I started my search on my own when all of a sudden I heard her yelling across the store «what do you need it for?» I yelled back «I will discuss that in private»! As there was other customers in the store I was shocked she put me in that awkward position! Having worked in the medical profession for many years I am very sensitive to patient confidentiality issues. And although I realize Sheries is not bound by HIPPA laws I was still stunned at the insensitivity of this employee.

Love this place. Any questions or items I’m looking for they have it. All the ladies here are so sweet and go above and beyond to help. I am a big
shopper and find that Sheri’s is equal in price to Amazon. I find myself shopping here at least once a week. It has become one of my favorite places.

When reviewing places, a reviewer needs to check his or herself according to supply and demand laws in the area in which they are reviewing. This review, though I feel the store could be better, gets 5 stars easily from me. It’s as good as it gets for where it is at.
Let me explain my rationale here a little better. In the case of Sheri’s Sonshine Nutrition Center, you have to take a few things into account. First is the unavailability of non-​perishable health foods in this region of California, the wine country. Sheri’s carries many hard-​to-​find unique items like gluten free pasta, herbal supplements, and cleansing agents for your body (something I find necessary for my overall health and well being.)
For produce, look elsewhere: produce is not in good supply here, However Sheri’s DOES carry a good supply of non-​perishables that I have never seen at Whole Foods and their prices are as competitive as any at Whole Foods (read: NOT COMPETITIVE AT ALL.)
Sheri’s is much less pretentious than Whole Foods, and my daughter and I had quite the pleasant visit here. I talked with a kind lady, who was the manager, about her decision to adopt a grain-​less lifestyle. I too have a wheat free lifestyle. We had a productive discussion that made me feel better about some of my choices to omit wheat from my diet. She comiserated about some of the fatigue and bodily changes that go along with the wheat-​free diet, and she too experienced the mental fog lifting for an extended period of time. Its definitely not a cake walk for everyone. Not an easy thing to talk about or go through, but once you are on the mend from the grain-​addiction and start cracking from the paralysis it causes, it is really very hard to allow yourself to fall back into the bread world. Bread just has a mild opiate like effect on me that my intestines can’t handle.
One thing I did need new information on was properly cleansing my vital organs and possibly a detoxification regimen, to address lifestyle changes in other areas of my life. For example, I drink more than once a year now. Things are different. She understood and found some good products for me. Cleanses, though extremely intense and tiring, are so worth the investment. The one she recommended had no laxative-​type effect, yet it is clearly working. I’m on Day 2 and I feel things moving. Pretty hot, I know. But you gotta take care of your insides, and it’s not pretty.
I could not afford any vitamins here; shopping for decent whole foods vitamins is turning out to be a real bitch. The prices are just out of control. When I find them for a good price online, I’m gonna buy 6 bottles. I can’t afford vitamins at 25 $ a pop.
While I’m giving this store 5 stars, I’m taking into account that it is in Lodi. If it was on Freeport Blvd. in Sacramento, I would say they’d need to beef up their inventory and then I would give it 4 stars. In Lodi, lacking produce is hardly a problem considering the wide availability of produce throughout Lodi from local farmers. Sacramento has wide availability too if you can make it to the markets on time, but in lodi there are plenty of produce stands all over the place.
I wholeheartedly recommend this business to anyone looking for some natural remedies. There is also a very small bookstand in the middle of the store where literature is sold. I found it a relief that I own most of the books they offered. It is encouraging to know that they are on top of the latest and greatest strides in natural health.

I’m giving three stars, because the staff are helpful when you are first coming into the store and starting to take better care of yourself. They showed me a multi-​vitamin and told me it was easy to take, gentle on the stomach. Compared to most multi-​vitamins, I was able to take it with ease, however, my stomach couldn’t digest it, but I still have it in my cabinet.
Around the second time coming into the store, I mentioned not being able to take the vitamin and that it was a possibility due to my IBS, again they were very helpful in trying to find something so that I could take the vitamin. They gave me a pro-​biotic. Unfortunately, the pro-​biotic caused extreme stomach cramps, amongst other things, to shorten the story, it made my irritable bowel syndrome, irritable. I returned the pro-​biotics with no hassle.
However, I’m not happy that their staff brought me up in the discussion of topic, while having issues with my mother. What happens between my mother and the store should remain between the two parties. The store bringing me into it, because I brought back my pro-​biotics is unprofessional. Compared to my mom, I only brought back one thing, and that was due to such horrific pain caused by the product, along with staying up all night with my IBS problems due to the product flaring it up. Had I not kept myself hydrated, I’d probably would have ended up in the ER.
I do not blame the staff for selling me the product, that caused this pain though, and I would never do such a thing. It should be common courtesy to not blame me for taking something back that made me physically ill. Its not good customer care.

This place is just too expensive. Nice selection, but what’s the point if one cannot afford it? I am from Seattle and was down in Lodi visiting family when we stopped by. I couldn’t believe some of the prices I saw. Compared to stores in Seattle, this place is waaaay too expensive. I imagine that this store stays in business by being the only shop in town to offer these types of products. I am all for small business, but that doesn’t give you the right to price gouge.

The staff is very helpful and knowledgeable. I don’t mind spending a little extra for the personal attention I get and for the unique products they carry. My family loves the berry flavored local bee honey that comes in straws. Feels great on a sore throat. i also love the fact that Sheri gives back to the community with scholarships to local schools.

My original review stands and is reiterated by my sister’s experience during her holiday visit of December 2011.
My sister came out to visit and she forgot to pack her probiotics, enzymes and some other supplement. While shopping and showing her downtown Lodi, she saw Sheri’s and wanted me to stop there to get what she had forgotten. I advised her strongly that she did not want to shop there because of the high prices, but she insisted. (She is more of a demanding consumer than I am) Because she is younger, she whipped out her cellphone and start searching the internet for internet pricing. I knew what she was doing and I told her to not even bother as Sheri’s would not price match. Her response was — we’ll see about that. Haha… Long story short, Sheri’s fully embraced their small-​town closed-​minded thinking when it comes to servicing a client. The sales girls told my sister, «Oh, we can’t do that — match prices — from the internet.» At that point I had to interject, knowing how I was unimpressed the last time I came here, by asking, «You can’t or… you WON’T??» There was no response, just a blank look at me from the sales girl. She turned to my sister and tried to ‘explain away’ their policy by saying that one never knows how long vitamins sit in these internet companies warehouses, blah blah blah. My sister fired back, «Well, I could say the same for you. I don’t know how long your product sits in your back storeroom before you run out of it to order more. I don’t know how fresh your product is either.»
So my sister searches for an online coupon and goes to the check out with what she wanted and she shows the girl the online coupon that is on her cellphone. Oh boy… we got yet another round of excuses of how «We don’t honor competitor’s coupons.» My sister looked at her and said, «Are you sure? It would be a shame for you to lose such a large sale because you are so stubborn about offering competitive pricing to a customer.» Well, we left there and went to Stockton to buy what she needed. As we were driving away, my sis looked at me and said, «I can see why you never shop there anymore. They don’t care about bringing in new customers. They just care about keeping their prices high to wring every last dime out of you.»
To Sheri’s owners — you really need to pull your head out of the sand and learn to be more competitive. I can’t help but to wonder how many sales you have lost and how many people have left your store with no purchase being made because you are so rigid on your prices. We are in an economy where price matters and people are price-​sensitive these days. As a consultant, I would love to give you tons of suggestions, but then, I’d have to charge you… and I’m sure that would make you unhappy since pricing seems to be your primary focus as a business owner.

Sheri’s Sonshine is a terrific health food store where I’ve been coming for 20 years. The staff is very helpful & cheerful. Besides vitamins, Sheri’s has a good variety of herbal supplements, special foods, tea, essential oils, bulk items and excellent wildflower honey. If I can’t find an item, they will order it for me. Get a customer card to receive discounts !

Usually, I would NEVER go into a Nutrition store… NEVER!
Vitamins? Get all my Vitamins from a Burger or two or three… Weight-​Loss? Skinny now as when I was in High School… Gluten-​Free? What the heck is that!!!
My purpose in entering this store yesterday was Castor Oil… You ask yourself… What is r.l. going to do with Castor Oil? After some Googling on the Internet… you can use Castor Oil to induce labor… No, I’m not going to use it for that! Welll… you can use Castor Oil as a Rodent Repellant! Now Solutions promotes the usage of Castor Oil as a general purpose Emollient.
I had purchased «The Giant Destroyer» to get rid of the Squirrels in my yard, which is adjacent to the local General Mills plant in the North-​West part of Lodi. I had second thoughts about that after thinking about dead bodies all over my yard, and maybe affecting Cats and Dogs in the neighborhood.
I performed some further research on Repellant-​only solutions to the «Squirrel Dilemma»… and found out about Castor Oil. Depending on which site you peruse… the mixture is 2 Tablespoons to 1 Cup of Castor Oil combined with 2 Gallons of Water. I’ll try initially with 2 Tablespoons of Castor Oil and progress from there…

After some comparison shopping at Rite-​Aid which charges $ 5 for a 4oz bottle. Sonshine had Castor Oil made by two different companies… 8oz for $ 6.99… and the 16oz bottle I purchased distributed by Now Solutions for $ 7.99.

This is a charming and friendly place to get vitamins, natural remedies, herbs, weight-​loss products and gluten-​free food. This store is so cheerful, I instantly have more energy and feel healthier when I walk in. It’s like a gym membership – you feel better after you’ve joined (even if you haven’t worked out yet.)
The staff at Sheri’s is knowledgeable and the store is both well-​stocked and well-​organized. You can find some items online for cheaper, but I enjoy supporting a local business and hearing the opinions of Sheri’s helpful employees. This isn’t a bargain vitamin shop and it doesn’t pretend to be. It’s worth paying an extra few bucks for advice you can trust.

Stopped in tonight looking for a good «cleansing» product. The ladies were friendly and helpful in sharing the INS and outs of the products. I love supporting a downtown community establishment. Great job!

Sheri’s is awesome! The employees are friendly and fun to be around. They are very knowledgeable about every item on each shelf and can give you honest opinions. Great selection on spices as well!

Prices are way to high. They really need to rethink the prices if they want more customers.

I used to shop at Sheri’s when I was younger, mostly for allergy remedies. Pollen set off my seasonal allergies badly, and the bee pollen they carry helped a lot, as did the honey (these do not work as remedies unless they’re local).
I started going back a few months ago, and was very pleasantly surprised to find that they now carry a huge variety of gluten-​free foods, with a much more extensive selection than any of the other local stores. They have everything from pasta, to cereal, to baking mixes, to cookies and donuts, and they even carry a frozen pizza and frozen mac and cheese. (And I disagree that Sheri’s is expensive; while I haven’t purchased the vitamins, the gluten-​free foods are on par with or cheaper than, price-​wise, the other local grocery stores that carry such items.)
They also have a good selection of frozen meals from Amy’s Kitchen (vegetarian meals that are often also vegan or gluten-​free), also reasonably priced, and all kinds of local products like honey, olive oil, etc. And I believe you can buy fresh produce from local organic farms through them as well.
On top of that, the staff is very friendly and helpful, and they even have a magazine with great meal ideas and nutrition tips. Add to that the benefit of supporting a local business (or several, if you are purchasing their local products) …
For some of their products, yes, a grocery store like Food-​4-​Less would be just as good and much cheaper. But most of what Sheri’s carries are specialty products and for those of us who need them, it’s very convenient that such a store exists in Lodi.
