Boitano Family Wines

Nooooooooo! I have been buying santano since it came out. This is my go to wine. I don’t want to find a new one. These are not only great wines, but a warm and kind family that I love to visit. The homeade cheese ball was amazing. I am sooooo sad.

Wines are good but tasting room is lacking… No real down points to say just not much enthusiasm was presented…

This is a true Family Winery, bare bones wine first type of establishment.
Do not need to have the overdone visual impact of a pretty polished wine tasting area with pretentious staff. Napa has that covered already.
The truth is in the wine… Enough said.
For those whom seek out honest wines with the Italian touch, this is a MUST place to visit.

Finally, some people with some personality in this plaza.
The ladies offering tastings were very welcoming, down to earth and kind.
They only had reds. I ended up liking the Santano Sangiovese a lot. they served it chilled, which I know is weird, but it worked great for this varietal.
I liked the Old Vine Zin too. This place was definitely worth putting my tummy through some hell to enjoy their reds.
Big warehouse setting, not fancy at all. but I didn’t get a feeling that they were trying to be fancy or high fallutin. Just good olé fashioned wine tasting.

Boitano makes excellent wine. Their wine is affordable in stores, and is especially easy on the pocketbook at the tasting room. The tasting room is a bit industrial, but if you’re going for wine tasting rather than ambiance, you can’t beat Boitano. Plus, the family that makes the wine is a wonderful group of people, so you can feel good drinking their wine and buying it.

From a tasting perspective, probably not the ideal space. They share building space with several other wineries, so you don’t get that «cozy, personal» feel. To their defense, we did arrive quite late (4:30pm) and they had just finished wrapping up an event (heritage tomato fest).
The service was friendly enough and we did walk out with the «classic» sangiovese (6 bottles of the 2005 — had some sediment problems, but still tasty and great with food +$ 7 per bottle) + a zinfandel. Not sure about a return visit, but we’ll see.

Love, Love, Love Boitano Family Wines! Their sparkling wines are a given at any brunch party our family throws. Sparkling Raspberry and Almond wine… Enough Said. It’s amazing.
Everytime we have gone wine tasting here we absolutely enjoy ourselves. The family patriarch, I believe has passed recently but he always made time to make us feel special and give us special tastes of food & chocolate that complimented the wines they were tasting. One of my favorite red wines that they have is the Santano…
They usually have spring and fall release parties that are such great fun with music, food and what else… wine tasting. All in all a wonderful time!

We have been coming to Boitano Family Wines since 2004. BFW is the gem that keeps Vino Piazza viable. The staff (family and friends of family) is very friendly. They have several terrific events each year where they pair Sangiovese and Heirloom Tomatoes, and Barbera with various sausages. Each event is a wonderful experience, although they could use more seating for these popular events. Unfortunately, Bob Boitano passed away last year. We absolutely loved Bob and would talk with him for hours when we visited. He was a great guy and we miss him a lot.

Went into Boitano Family Wines again this weekend. We’ve been there at least a half dozen times over the past few years — and we always leave feeling happy and with wine in tow. The Boitano family and staff are wonderful & welcoming. They produce great Italian style wine that seems to appeal to a wide variety of wine drinkers. Every time we bring friends to this winery — they end up buying at least a couple bottles if not a case or more!
Our personal favorites are the Barbera, Sapore di Cielo, Old Vine Zin and Good Ol’ Red. Of course everyone’s palette is different — but you are sure to find a wine here that suits you (even a couple sparkling options). Prices are reasonable too (most are $ 12-​$ 25).
Another perk is that Boitano usually has some «futures» available to taste from the barrel. This is a great way to buy some fabulous wine at an amazing price. (And the release parties are always fun!)

As with all winery reviews, I try to stay away from reviewing the wines (everyone’s taste is different) and focus on the winery itself and the people there. On this scale, Boitano does quite well. The guy working the bar that day was friendly and funny, and had clearly had a few glasses himself. He was a «friend of the family,» and had a lot of information and stories to tell about the winery and the people behind it. We did some impromptu barrel tasting, which was nice, but is not necessarily my thing. Many people go ga-​ga over barrel tasting, and I’m not sure why. Just because it’s rare, I think. It’s quite a bit like asking the chef to taste the stew halfway through the cooking process. The wine isn’t ready to be tasted, and its taste is going to change (maybe significantly, but at least noticeably) by the time it’s been bottled, sat for a few months, and ready for you to really drink it.
Anyway, they get high marks just for offering the elusive barrel taste to some schmucks off the street. Many people love that, so I won’t get all Grinchy about it.
Overall, a nice experience.

ugh, they are so friendly, i want to MOVE IN to their cold and unwelcoming warehouse/​tasting room. they have about 10-​ish wines to taste daily, including 2 lovely sparkling wines. honestly, the people who work there (family, i think) are so talkative and informative.
I cannot recommend wine tasting in Lodi/​Lockeford enough, it’s such a community feeling, where everyone recommends everyone else’s wines. And the boitano winery is in the Vino Piazza, which i think is italian for «a whole bunch of wineries within walking distance, so that your DD has a few hours off’
