Bay Area Hay and Feed

I have been buying gamefowl feed and supplies from this store for the past 6 yrs. They carry selection of best quality feed at the lowest price. I travel all the way from Hayward to Livermore to buy their feed. Very friendly owners, quick service and they answer any question you have. Most reliable people. I highly recommend all farmers to visit them and buy from their store best feed at lowest affordable price. I bet you will never be disappointed. this is my store and I will go there again and again.

This feed store has an amazing selection of chicken feeds, game bird feeds, and so much more at really great prices. We had been shopping at a feed store in Dublin because it was closer to our home. When that feed store switched to a lower-​quality organic layer feed, it made a big difference in my silkie chickens. They were all walking around with bare butts for several months. I couldn’t figure it out! I treated them for mites, worms, everything I could think of. I was feeding them extra protein to try to help with feather regrowth, it didn’t help. I spent months reading constantly about chicken problems, trying to figure out why my chickens had bare butts. Finally I decided it must be the feed. I did some research and Modesto Milling makes the best organic feeds in this area, so I called around to see where to find it and Bay Area Hay and Feed in Livermore has it. The quality of this feed is exceptional! The organic scratch and even their rabbit food is just beautiful, with chunks of seeds and dried fruits. This feed store even has bags of dried peas, black oil sunflower seeds, and all kinds of super healthy treats for your chickens, not the overpriced pre-​packaged stuff like my other feed store in Dublin was selling. If you’re really into the idea of raising organic chickens like I am, you are going to absolutely love this store. Within a couple weeks of switching my chickens to these feeds, they were covered with new pinfeathers growing in. We’re at the end of our first 50-​lb bag of feed and my chickens look beautiful, fully covered in feathers again! I’m so glad to have finally solved the bare butt mystery.
Also, I’m very happy with the customer service. They spend a lot of time answering questions and helping you pick the right products.

Good prices, I have bought some good hay here, large selection of bagged horse feed at reasonable price, things like fly spray and other horse supplies are limited. The owner and workers seem friendly. I like to support local mom and pop businesses, but I have heard they don’t support local ag. youth programs and for that I take a star off.

This place was pretty amazing they had it all. The only drawback I would say is that they suffer from the same price gouging on back yard chicken stuff that the others do but it was a very nice place. it was clean they had fantastic inventory and the people were nice. I will be back.

I really only come here for the timothy hay for our two rabbits. It’s about $ 6 – 7 for a big bag. Much cheaper and better than the Oxbow hay you get at pet food exp/​pet mart.
Sometimes the staff will even stuff a little more in. I normally buy 4 bags will can last about 2.5 months for two rabbits.

Nothing fancy, but extremely helpful and knowledgeable and can get really busy at times. We’ve been going there for years and prefer to support small local businesses over large chain feed stores.

Visited this shop because I was interested in raising chickens for eggs. The staff was very informative. The gentleman that helped us gave us tons of info on breeds, care, what to expect having chickens. The shop had all the supplies we needed. Our visit was like going to a farm. Chickens and ducks in the back. A resident goat hanging out greeting customers. We purchased two «teenager» sexlink chickens. Can’t wait to see our first eggs.

Impressed with the service and patience! Walking in without any knowledge about chickens Guillermo brought sufficient «light» on my new hobby leaving the place confident that I can look after the hen I purchased! Apso, Guillermo chose a truly beautiful Black Australian chicken. Guillermo accomplished all my demands: good looking bird, egg layer, friendly with kids and the other chicks. I was reading all the reviews good and bad and although it is true that when you call, you get a voice mail, just leave a message! Dave called back within minutes and told me what I needed to know. He seemed very nice and I would definitely go there in the future.
A friend recommended the place and she goes there all the time for her chickens and for her chicken’s needs. She says they are healthy and happy hens.

Guillermo and Shaun were very helpful getting us started with our first time raising chickens. We started with two today and Guillermo gave us great advise on what we should do. You could tell he loves helping newbies with his passion for raising chickens as he has some too. Never seen so many chickens to pick from before. Our chickens already laid an egg!

Warning – Marek’s disease!
We just brought back two 5-​month old organic pullets last week, and one of them has developed what looks very likely to be Marek’s disease. We will have to put her down, and we’re just hoping the rest of our flock doesn’t come down with it, and I don’t recommend buying pullets from here anytime soon. Definitely do not buy organic (unvaccinated) pullets here.
They were not very sympathetic when I called to ask them about help with this. I’m sorry, because I did like this place, but I don’t think we’ll go back.
Update ³⁄₂₀₁₄: little pullet has succumbed and is buried.

Never going back again. Ive been buying fresh eggs from this guy all summer. He makes up prices as he pleases. First he charges $ 3 bucks then he says its getting cold out chickens are not laying as much– $ 3.50. What do I know. I still think its reasonable. He tells a relative of mine that went there $ 4.00 a dozen a few days later. I go in a week later and he tells me its 3.50 but he is going to charge me $ 4 bucks because I’m using my debit. I purchased 3 dozen eggs over his 10 minimum required for credit card. I called visa and they said merchants are only allowed to charge you up to 4% of total sale. He should of charged me $.48 but charged me 1.50 extra. I think you guys catch my drift. I don’t like dealing with dishonest people. Just not good business practice. But its his store he can do whatever he wants. My money I’m going somewhere else.

Great people to work with! If they don’t have what you are looking for, they will do their best to find it and they are very honest about pricing. Don’t be fooled about the bad reviews! These guys are good people, trying hard and they DO care about you and your livestock.

Love this place! When I needed U-​Guard for my horse they had it. When I wanted a supplement, they ordered it and had it two days later. I don’t know much about chickens, but these look really healthy. The eggs they sell are amazing; the yolks are so yellow. I will make a special trip to the store just for these!

They NEVER answer the phone! How am I supposed to check if you carry something I am looking for if you don’t answer your phone?!

I was so sickened by the state of the poor chickens out back that I couldn’t go inside. There were sick chickens, at least one dead chicken and a chicken foot lying on the ground. Many, many had rumps that had been picked clean. Please don’t give them any of your money. I don’t want them to have even 1 star.

Oh, Bay Area Hay and Feed… I’m from Fremont and you’re from Livermore, so I thought it would be a great idea to call ahead to see if you have the chicks I wanted. However, I’ve called and called and left messages, and called some more — and no on ever seems to be home. No one ever answers the phone. Does anyone actually work there? You may be great for the locals as they can go in whenever they want to, but until you get your administrative side in order, I’m not about to drive an hour to get to you to see if you might have whatever I need in stock. I may change my review of you later… if you actually answer the phone or call me back.

Always a freindly geeting when I walk in. If I am buying one bale, or twenty, stock tanks or horse shoes, sometimes nothing, they are always freindly. I like that they are open on Sunday. I have never had any problems with their products or staff.

Friendly service, informative staff, and good pricing. What more could you expect? They carry hay, grain, shavings, vaccines, farm animal feed and supplies, pet food and supplies, and ranch supplies. They will also do delivery and stacking.
They are right off the highway on Greenville Road with plenty of parking.
