The school is a joke, it has no formal curriculum, no extension to pick up and train elsewhere if you decided to move. for work. The main instructor Dino is overly pushy and aggressive. This school is not one of the bests. I suggest you look elsewhere.

this is a review for the NYMAA Brooklyn location. i was honestly horrified after coming into this dojo. a few months prior, i happened upon it while walking in the neighborhood. i was very interested in Jeet Kune Do and excited after the owner’s son, James(who i later recognized on the website), offered me a free week-long pass. a few months later, i came in. i was very excited to begin studying, and i was asked to fill out a form. on the form there was a question asking what might keep you from signing up if you did like the trial period; i put that i wasn’t sure if i would be able to sign up at the school due to financial issues. James saw this, asked me about it, and then was joined by a meathead-type instructor. they proceeded to interrogation-style question me about why i was there if i couldn’t pay and gruffly explain that they had costs and why would they give me a free class if i couldn’t pay, and even quote to me the amount of dollars they pay instructors for each class, as if that was my responsibility, or even business, to know. i found their energy to be highly-aggressive, menacing, self-important, and essentially, a set of intimidation tactics. these guys are, in all honesty, huge assholes. i would not recommend this dojo to anyone whatsoever. is this is all they(including the owner’s and Sifu’s son himself) have to show for their mental and physical training?– especially when they are so ready to throw their various accolades in your face? this is what i experienced trying to redeem a free week-long trial that i was GIVEN by the very same person who harassed me. what could i expect of actually training there?

This is by far the best martial arts academy around, not only for the quality of the art itself and instructor(s) but for the essence of a true martial arts academy. I have been a member at this academy for alittle over 1 year and the quality of its instructors and comradery amongst its members is matched by none, this academy thrives under the sole interest/love and passion for JKD… of both its members and instructors… its what a martial arts academy should be! I have been to other JKD schools and after being there for a few weeks you get the sense that you are dollar sign instead of a pupil, they lose focus like Danielson did in Karate Kid Part II. I stopped looking for martial art academies after I became a member here, I will be here for a very long time. NYMAA has become a part of my life on a personal level, im glad I came across this school and its members. If you are looking for a genuine martial arts academy to practice and hone your skillset at, then this is your place. This is the stuff the art itself is built on, the philosophy, the science, the passion and desire to improve of its practitioners and instructors.
