Kauai Palms Hotel

a warm, friendly family style hotel; cute apts that are set up for you to either eat out or dine in. we are staying for 2 weeks and are at the tail end of our stay. really nice staff. close to everything. And the Best part… we are able to hear the locals speak the Hawa’iian and pidgin language!
i gave it 4 stars, only because of a couple of misunderstandings with the housekeeping…
other than that i would highly recommend this place to stay!

Stayed at this hotel for business reasons and it was perfect. The rooms are really nice with up to date tiled showers and stainless steele faucets. The beds are really comfy and smelled of fresh laundry. Perfect place to stay for inner island travel. Really affordable and right in Lihue

Came to Kauai for the marathon (9÷6÷15) & my friend and I stayed here. The night manager found out it was my birthday and they had a cake delivered to me on my birthday (⁹⁄₅). Such a great hotel!!! Bed was comfy, so are the pillows!!!

I was very skeptical as I drove up to this hotel. The outside looks like a dive, in fact I came in to check the room. I was pleasantly surprised by the owner and her sweet manner, and her accommodating ways. The room is a surprise when you come in, huge soft king size bed, the bathroom has been done with nice tile and very lovely shower. The towels are very white and soft, AC in the room and the coffee in the morning is amazing. I would suggest anyone who wants to come to Kawai to check this place out. No there is no Starbucks close by, there is no restaurant close by but for the price it’s a steal. And I was amazed at the full parking lot.

This place bailed us out! We were staying on the North Shore for the week and we had a 10:00 am checkout and we didn’t fly out until late and we wanted a place to crash, store our bags and shower before we flew out at 10:30 pm. Our flight ended up getting pushed back until 2:10 am. The front desk helped us with a taxi to the airport. Very friendly and helpful. The room wasn’t much to write home about but it served our purpose and we are super grateful for somewhere to crash. Thanks!

Clean hotel, friendly helpful staff, and budget priced for Kauai. I travel to Kauai from the mainland on a monthly basis and always stay at the Kauai Palms a week at a time. It is centrally located, a short drive to the airport, grocery and drug stores. Several restaurants within walking distance. Larger rooms have AC, small fridge, hotplate, microwave, ceiling fans, TV and coffee makers. I highly recommend this place for the traveler who is not expecting the Marriott or the St. Regis. But, you’ll get the same warmth of aloha.

The staff was very friendly, kind and helpful. The one star is not for them but for the condition of the room.
Honestly, I don’t know how I managed to stay more than one night there. I literally had to fight the roaches to get around in the tiny room.
As soon as you turned the light on, at least 15 baby roaches ran all over the bathroom floor and onto the carpet in the room. Where they camouflage!!!
Also, one crawled up my boyfriends leg while he was jumping into the shower.
I stayed for 4 nights. They didn’t change the sheets and not sure how long they were there for. I didn’t request them to change the sheets because I’m sure they would have pulled them out from storage where I’m sure more roaches are cozily sleeping.
When I pulled the towel that they provided from the hanger a roach flew out of it…
Ummm. They didn’t leave extra toilet paper so I had to use tissue…
The area is dingy. It’s obviously he «hood» of lihue.
However it is conveniently located but you’re better off spending a little bit more money and sleeping without paranoia.
If it weren’t for the roaches, I would stay here again.
Also: NEVER LEAVE ANYTHING IN YOUR CAR, while visiting there.

I read a few bad reviews like a day before my trip. I got there and it looked a little «iffy» from the outside. The first room I stayed in was decent, few stains on the carpet weren’t that appealing, but other than that it was ok. This room was 70 a night and I got what I paid for. The ladies at the desk were really helpful when I wasn’t sure if I would be there a second night (on business). A room opened up and they reserved it for me. This one I paid 100 a night for and was way nicer than the first. Microwave/​tv/​coffee and pretty clean. All the reviews about the roaches must have been solved because I didn’t see one over my three days. This room I got more than I expected. Thanks to the ladies at the desk! I will stay here again

Decent price, mediocre conditions.
Stayed here one night after we arrived into Lihue late, so we just wanted a bed to sleep in, and this hotel did the trick. The room was very small and there was a very tiny closet that I couldn’t even turn around in. The bathroom was also tiny and I kept hitting the side of the wall with my elbow. Also the room was not very clean, the bed had really old sheets on them and the windows were not sound proof at all. The chickens woke me up at 5am in the morning.
The location is pretty good, it’s on the main road and walking distance to the civic center.

For the price ($ 89 for a double twin room), I’m very happy with our stay here. The room had been renovated with new bath fixtures and lighting. It was simple but clean.
Night and morning staff were courteous and kind. We requested an extra pillow and received a perfect one! Extra blankets are in the closet.
There is off-​street parking – a gravel lot.
There is a small ‘fridge in the room, but no microwave oven.
Our room did not have AC, but we were comfortable with the windows open.
The roosters started crowing around 2am, but it wasn’t really loud until sunrise. We expected to hear them, so they weren’t a nuisance.
All-​in-​all, the room fit our needs just fine! Close to the Lihue Airport, and very budget friendly. Oh, and the morning coffee was a bonus!

Room appeared clean, staff very nice, ac and TV in room. For all the people spotting roaches, they come with living in paradise, even if you are clean you will see a few. And as for the roosters, they are everywhere, even the city. However Bedbugs are never ok, not sure if it was this place or the 2^nd place we stayed at but ick.

My experience here was definitely «meh»…
COMFORT: I stupidly didn’t think to check if the room I booked had AC. It did not. And it was so hot that the fans and windows didn’t do much to help. (Plus, with the windows open, you hear people and roosters non-​stop). The roosters of Kauai are awesome but not when I’m trying to sleep, indoors, and shouldn’t have to hear them. The bed and bedding was okay/​good. The room (walls, door, carpet, ceiling) was run-​down and scummy-​looking but that doesn’t usually bother me. Due to the heat and noise, I couldn’t sleep well at all.
WIFI: For us it was terrible, on any device we tried. Made it hard to use the internet to plan things or adjust plans, which is kind of a huge deal in 2014.
STAFF: Person we checked in with was grumpy for no discernible reason. Person we checked out with was fine.
PRICE: Room price was more than I’d usually pay for a room I can’t even get a semi-​good night’s sleep in.

I loved this place! It was quiet, very clean, and a great central location. Maybe noise was a problem in the past, but we didn’t hear anything at night. There was even a sign asking you to be quiet after 9pm in the walkways around the rooms. The lady who checked us in was super sweet and friendly. You aren’t staying at a resort, there’s no pool-​but it’s hawaii! Why would you wanna be at the hotel all day anyway? Free wifi in the room, coffee in the morning, and free parking. I was sold. I will definately stay there again next time i’m on Kauai. Also, I saw zero roaches in the room and actually commented how clean it was the second we got there. Bed was surprisingly comfy too for a 2 star hotel bed. All in all, great experience!

Decent location near the airport. Helpful staff. Surprisingly nice, renovated bathrooms.
The problem? Noise. Do NOT stay here if you actually want to sleep. I went to bed at 9:30, giving myself the potential for nine hours of sleep. I even took Benadryl before so I’d really get a good night’s sleep. I probably slept for a total of three hours. The walls are paper thin, and people were LOUD. I could hear their conversations into all hours of the morning. And then when I’d finally dozed off, a car pulled up into the gravel parking lot and that woke me up again.
Given how much sleep I didn’t get, I should have just saved myself $ 100 and stayed up all night at the airport.

My husband and I looked for the cheapest hotel knowing that we wouldn’t spend much time in our room. We didn’t pay for a 5-​star hotel so were not expecting one. When we pulled up the area itself is a little «iffy» but when we went in the lady at the front desk was such a sweetheart. Very knowledgeable and had great ideas for us during our stay. We walked into our room and were a bit dissapointed to see we were given two twins when we requested a queen/​king. Oh well, we made it work. There was no iron or hair dryer as stated on their website. That was another bummer. Other than that it was fine. Again, not a five star hotel so if that’s were you are trying to stay, don’t stay here. Also, the roosters here will likely keep you up all night. We were in room 21… the corner room next to the street and those darn roosters did not shut up, but I guess that’s not the hotels fault.

the world «hotel» is an over statement, this is our second time on this island, and we usually stay in princeville, decided to catch a cheaper flight a day earlier, so needed a place to crash at night… figured if we’re gonna be diving out of poipu, makes more sense to spend the night nearby
this place is in a «unique» neighborhood, its not «ghetto» in the sense of a big city (like sf, la, or ny), but its definitely not somewhere where you (as a tourist or visitor) might imagine staying… it has a very local feel, for those of you who have eaten at hamura’s saimin, this «hotel» is right behind it… covenient perhaps, but now you know what to picture when you imagine the location
the rooms are small, definitely seems more old world hawaiian (dated), but its clean (enough) and cheap (relative to other places in the area), and convenient…

We needed 2 extra nights on the island and I found Kauai Palms online. The pictures on their website made it out to look like a great place. I will say that the staff was great. However, the room not so much. It had not been dusted in quite some time. There was a ring of dust over the ceiling fan, the bathroom fan looked like it was wearing a fur coat it was so dust filled, mold and mildew in the tub and the worst part is that is was roach infested. I personally will never book there again.

Terrible.
We checked into our room… walked in… and left to find another hotel within 10 minutes. It was THAT bad.
I can’t speak for the other rooms, but our room was basically reminiscient of a room that someone might want if they needed it «hourly»… The staff when we checked in was extremely friendly, which was an odd contrast to the room.
My husband and I booked this place based on their website, and felt completely deceived. Their website pictures show CLEAN, newly painted, decent rooms. The pictures are completely NOT what you get. Here are the highlights of our room:
–Holes in the carpet and weird stains… it was filthy
–Holes in the wall/​paint falling off the wall
–King size bed crammed into a janitor’s closet sized room
–about 1 foot of space of «walkway» between the bed and the wall to get to the «bathroom»
–Bathroom tiles… dear lord… the floor was coming apart with huge spaces between the filthy tiles
–Shower…you would not go in here to get clean. Rusty, dirty, scummy…
–Towels were falling apart, faded, mismatched, and dirty
–Paper thin walls. And doors. And windows.
–The door to the room was basically a screen door with some flimsy wood on it. It had open vents that didn’t close.
–Lock on the door was a joke – anyone could easily break in
–Brand new flat panel TV… hmm…secure, locking door that closes all the way, or flat panel TV?
Do not trust what is pictured on the website; complete waste of time and $ 75.00. Unsafe, loud, filthy, crammed. Nice staff, nice cat… but don’t advertise to trick your online customers.

Good basic lodgings just minutes from Lihue Airport. If you are looking for a clean, comfortable place to shower and sleep in Kauai, I think this is a pretty good deal for $ 75 per night. We were planning to do a lot of touring, sight seeing, and hiking, and so we didn’t really need the amenities of the pricey resort hotels. Kauai Palms fit the bill nicely. Our room with 2 twin beds on the second level was pretty small, but the beds were clean and good sized, and the bathroom was clean and the shower stall sufficiently roomy. The water pressure is pretty good also. The only complaint I have was that there were several burned out light bulbs which weren’t replaced during our stay, and the fridge in our room was hot instead of cold. Oops.
The location was convenient, as it was easy to drive to the north, west, east and south shores of Kauai, and there is plenty of parking. We were there in mid June and did not need air-​conditioning. The ceiling fans and open windows provided plenty of cooling breezes and ventilation for comfortable sleeping. There is a laundry room onsite and free wifi, along with cable TV in the room. There are lots of local style eateries nearby, and the Lihue mall with Macy’s, Border’s and K-​mart are a 10 minute drive away.
Kauai Palms seems like it caters to business travelers as well as tourists — there seemed to be a fair number of people hanging out in their rooms during the evenings.

Convenient location, affordable prices, friendly staff. What else can you ask for? And like A.C. said, it’s right next to Hamura saimin!!! The room was relatively small, but the bed was nice and big, and the bathroom was fairly clean. It was pretty much just right for what we needed, a place to shower and sleep. When I go back to Kauai, I will definitely stay at Kauai Palms again!
