Rancatore’s Ice Cream

If you are a Desi — you will love the Bombay flavor! They don’t have it all the time so call ahead and ask if they do. Got the Quart for 10.75 — totally worth it considering it’s not too sweet and full of dry fruit. Its the closest thing to good Kulfi you can get in US!

I was tagged in a Facebook post about their 30 years anniversary special, micro’s for .85 cents! Nice deal, plus I’m always willing to try somewhere new.
The area where this ice cream shop is located is pretty nice. I had never been to Lexington. The shop is pretty cute, the server was very nice and let us sample the different flavors. I’m not much of a ice cream girl, I prefer yogurt. I wish they had more creative variety for their yogurt. I had a very generous scoop of Oreo mashed up yogurt. It was awesome, but what was more awesome looking was the ice cream cake the owner was cutting to celebrate his 30 years of business. I could just imagine how delicious it would be. Happy 30^th!!!

I just stopped in last week. Hadn’t been in a while. They have a new flavor, Bully Boy, which is vanilla with whiskey. Delish! The server was very generous and let me try a bunch of flavors before I made my choices. I came out with 4 pints and my family loved them all.

I stopped by Rancatore’s (I keep thinking of the rancor from return of the Jedi) on a trip to Boston. I wanted to see if Mass could do ice cream as well as we do in the South. Apparently they do! It was October and about 36 degrees at night, but that didn’t matter. A scoop of the pumpkin spiced something in a waffle cone and I was giddy inside.
It’s almost like a local craft ice cream shoppe — they have tons of experimental flavors in the freezer.
I’d definitely recommend you stop here if you’re in Lexington.

Ordered a custom ice cream cake for my daughter’s birthday — flavors were mint chocolate chip and hydrox. It was absolutely delicious, the best ice cream cake we’ve ever had (and I have ordered many ice cream cakes over the years). Received many rave reviews from family and friends at the party — and quite a few went back for seconds. Will definitely order again — was well worth the price I paid.

Homemade? You’ve got to be kidding. Almost every brand of ice cream in the supermarket is tastier. Had a large with two scoops of vanilla and one of pistachio. Where was the vanilla flavor — totally absent. And the pistachio? The same flavorless vanilla with a few pistachio nuts mixed in. Grossly overpriced too. How this place is so highly rated is beyond me.

Great selection of both ice cream and yogurt flavors! They also have very fun and unique cones, suchs as pretzel, m&m, and chocolate! The staff were friendly and helpful but what kept this experience from being 5 stars were the other customers. Those there before us and those who came in after us were very rude about the line and the attention of the staff, resulting in us leaving the restaurant to enjoy our treats elsewhere.

Ranc’s serves up some of the best homemade ice cream in the greater Boston area. Where else will you get flavors such as kulfi, mango cream and pineapple orange, just some of my favorites!
They have a cup or cone option, personally prefer the cup but the cone is good too. Their ice cream cakes are also delicious, good for special occasions such as birthdays

1 Star — Cute sitting area to enjoy your ice cream. Plenty of seats so our family was able to find a spot to huddle together.
1 Star — They offer water! I always like an ice cream shop that recognizes you get thirsty eating sweets.
1 Star — Cookies and Cream known as Hydrox, in yogurt form. Less guilt!

Great local ice cream place in the middle of Lexington. Good ice cream, adequate range of flavors, nice atmosphere, and friendly staff. Tables so you can sit inside if it is cold.
Prices in my mind are reasonable given their rent at this location cannot be cheap.

Oh the banana icecream with hot fudge! Amazing and it is even more yummy with their fresh whipped cream. It is so addicting.

The Good: The ice cream is solid. It’s creamy and has pretty darn good flavor. Hydrox cookie is great, and their root beer float is excellent.
The Bad: I can never bring myself to buy ice cream here as it’s so so darn expensive! One small scoop will run you something like 3 – 4 dollars (a micro). Go to someplace like Kimball’s Farm where 3 – 4 dollars will get you more than you can eat. Also, it’s supremely noisy inside.

oh Ice Cream, how I love thee… You could say I have a love-​hate relationship with ice cream. Actually, it’s more of a love triangle. I love Ice Cream with a passion but my cardiologist hates that I love ice cream, although I suspect he secretly loves it himself…
I digress…
I’m constantly amazed that it’s easier to find a fro-​yo or cupcake place than a good old fashioned ice cream shop these days. Amazed and disappointed, that is. Rancatore’s is a Lexington landmark, smack dab in the center of Lexington Center. Location location location. It’s true they’re not the biggest ice cream shop around and they don’t have the most flavors, although their selection is more than adequate. They are a somewhat on the pricey side but that’s to be expected in this location.
Their ice cream is really quite special. Now, you have to understand, when it comes to ice cream I love anything with the words «home made» if it’s true, and I’m partial to Ben and Jerry’s. That said, when those aren’t options for me, I love a place like Rancatore’s. They have some very unique flavors like khulfi and malt hydrox that you’re sure to not see anywhere else. Oh, and They’re both really good. My goal this year is to try every flavor ;) They also have frozen yogurt and Sorbet, but I’m and Ice Cream guy, so if you haven’t been here before, stick with ice cream, that’s what they’re known for.
Give Rancatore’ a try. You won’t regret it.

Located right in the middle Lexington Center, Rancatores is a favorite among the locals. I was a bit disappointed in their assortment of flavors. They have about a dozen flavors of ice cream and a few frozen yogurt and sorbet flavors. I sampled the pistachio ice cream – loaded with whole pistachio nuts, which made the soggy/​stale texture more apparent, but the ice cream as a whole did not have very good flavor. I ended up with the classic strawberry ice cream and was really disappointed with it. The ice cream was much more icy than creamy, and again, lacking flavor. I tried my friend’s salted caramel ice cream which was much better than mine and not overly sweet with just enough salt – two thumbs up in my opinion.
One thing that is really cool is that they have cones made of chocolate chip cookie and pretzel! I didn’t taste it since I’m gluten free, but it was the first I’ve ever seen!
It’s nice that they have a «micro» size, but it was still a bit pricey in my opinion for good (not great) homemade ice cream with a small assortment of flavors.

Fun friendly staff of youngin’s dishing out some quality home made ice cream and frozen yogurts.
The buzzing street of downtown Lexington, Mass has this little corner spot that acts like a beacon for you to come in and try something sweet.
My wife got some special flavor, Chocolate Joel with some hydrox in there and lots of chocolatey goodness while I went with the old standby of mint chocolate chip.
It was a lovely escape from the madness of the weekend.

This place is very nice. Good ice cream with less frills attached and good creamy stuff to keep things more traditional than fancy. The service cannopt be more friendlier than that. Staff is so welcoming, even at the last minute before they close. I have tried a bunch of flavors with some friends and here is what I think (will keep updating):
Khulfi: Light and creamy. Very impressed.
Salted Caramel: Good try but not fancy. Goes well with some strong flavors when you add 1+ flavors in your order.
Tiger Milk: My friend feels it tastes like milkmaid, but I feel like frozen ricotta cheese and I LIKE IT.
Belgian Chocolate: Amazingly good.
Cherry Chip: Again good. Really they have very good flavors.

I stopped in for some sweet cream ice cream. I wold definitely go again just to try a pretzel cone or m&m cone, pretty cool. I thought about trying more than one flavor but the prices are a bit high for my taste plus right after I walked in about 20 kids were walking in and there is no way I was getting stuck behind them so I had to think quickly. I got a micro cup and it was $ 3, too much for what you get. And I could swear on the menu it said they start at over $ 4. Flavor and texture was good. Store setup is pretty good

I really love ice cream. I really like Rancatore’s (just as much as Toscanini’s). However, an Italian ice cream place can never exceed A-​OK for me without Nocciola.
Many years ago Rancatore’s made it perfectly, but I don’t think I had found any in the past ten years. The other flavors are fine, but I want my hazelnuts.
