Orange Leaf Frozen Yogurt

I went in with my kids on a cold, rainy afternoon in December. When we walked in, not only were there no customers, but no employees present either. I assumed someone would be out soon (since it was during business hours and the doors were open), so we got our cups, and took our time picking our flavors and toppings. As we were picking the toppings (and still no employee in sight), I started calling out ‘Hello? Hello!” to try to get someone’s attention. Two employees can out from the back at that point. One of them went to the register, and as I paid, he wiped his snotty nose on his hand, and then handed me back my card with the same hand. Gross. Then he turned and spit into the trash bin, right next to where my kids had just sat down to eat. Grosser. Ugh. Then both employees disappeared into the back again.
They have TVs in the shop, blaring some random channel that was way too loud and inappropriate for my 3 and 5 year old. I tried to get the attention of the employees in the back to turn it down, but they were both eating and looking at their phones, so it took a while. When one of them finally came out, he refused to turn down the TV, said he had to keep it so loud ‘in case it got busy, people needed to be able to hear the TV over the commotion’. He went back to the back.
I finally got the attention of the other employee, and asked if there was a manager. He said he was the manager (Mike). I told Mike about the gross nose-​hand wiping and spitting, and he said he would talk to the other employee. I said I was surprised that a store would have no employees in the front, especially with customers in the store, that I would think an owner would want people watching it. Mike kind of laughed and said, «Well, the owner’s my dad…» Basically, I can do whatever I want to, this is my daddy’s shop. Ok, Mike. You lost these customers.

Good yogurt. Gross place. Chairs, floor tables. One table had some sort of fruit smears all over the bottom. Guy working was on his phone the whole time. Who is the manager?

Ok so the yogurt is delicious I will certainly give it that.
What it doesn’t have:
Cleanliness– the floor, the seats, the bathroom all were filthy and the shop was only open for an hour and empty.
No changing station for kids– ok you sell yogurt which means you attract all types including families– but you have no changing station. Yuck!
Reasonable pricing– we had 4 yogurts and it came to $ 33…yes really. Only toppings on 2 of them. It’s insanely overpriced and not worth it. Love yogurt but I’ll save my dollars and spend them elsewhere.
Staff that are useful– really stop sitting on the back bar and chatting. Clean, organize, be helpful.
Enough said.

I don’t know what it is about Orange Leaf, but sometimes, I just can’t get enough. They have a great business model, let the customer serve themselves, they’ll undoubtedly take more than they can eat, and then charge them by weight. It’s brilliant! They save on staffing expense and you pay more than you should be. I only wish I had thought of it. Several other people have mentioned that these Froyo places all seem the same. I will say, Orange Leaf really seems to have set itself apart. I don’t know if its the décor or the little orange trowels (spoons) but they just seem different. I have to say, I’ve had enough of the indifferent teenagers working the counter though. Can you say minimum wage? The service could be better. But the Froyo is great!

Hours are not open until 9pm. Just drove 20 min to grab some frozen yogurt and was closed by 8pm. Called to check and person answered but said the hours listed were summer hours and not in effect yet…1) it’s the start of spring so I’m confused by summer hours/​why your hours on your website are wrong 2) I guess I can’t trust orange leaf and their hours and 3) yes, I’m pissed off because I wanted some fro yo… call before you go because you can’t trust their website or Unilocal hours

The frozen yogurt isn’t really special, but it is still fairly good. But there are two flavours I really love. The chairs and tables are really cool, and I love how everything is so orange. And I love the toppings. So, I would say it is very nice, but it can’t beat soft serve ice cream.

Not bad. In comparison to Mixed in Allston, or any of the Red Mango or Pinkberry franchises, not too much of a difference. They have your standard flavors (original tart, various berries and fruits, ect) with your standard toppings, and will occasionally have unique flavors you’ll be itching to try (their brownie batter that I had was sooo good). The business model is a «pay-​by-​the-​ounce» style, which allows you to try various flavors and toppings (the best when you feel like pigging out).
I did note that when we came here near closing, the froyo lost some of its hard consistency, and quickly turned watery for some of the flavors. The cashier was also constantly in the back cleaning up — we noted a father and his son walking in front of the cashier to pay for a couple minutes, with the kid staring at his froyo in his hands with a forlorn look on his face since the froyo was oh so close, yet so far away. Poor kid.
Décor is one of my favorites compared to it’s competitors — definitely a nice place to chat with friends while munching away.

Where’s the originality? The patent flavors? The exotic toppings?
Not at Orange Leaf.
I noticed this chain popping up across the countryside and told myself I needed to try it. Living so close to Lexington Center helped me achieve my goal.
But I was sorely disappointed.
Why?
— The flavors were nothing out of the ordinary. Sure, you put a spin to strawberry froyo, but at the end of the day, it’s still strawberry froyo.
— The dispensers weren’t well maintained. I wanted to try 3 different flavors and got liquid yogurt during the initial pull for each one. You’d think that this viscous substance wouldn’t make it to customers’ cups.
— Only two kinds of boba? Meh. At least they still had that popping effect when I buy down on them with a bite of red velvet froyo.
— The kid manning the cashier was clearly unengaged. My order came out to be $ 5.60 and he gave me $ 0.60 in change. I called him out on it and he hastily apologized, panicking under my watchful gaze as he counted out the correct change. Math fail!
I’d rather get my frozen dessert fix at Rancatore’s.

I like ice cream (let me admit. I die for it). In the past I did not like FroYo but this place made me re-​think. The taste is very good and the selection is wide range. Lexington downtown is very lively. Staff is very nice. Be cautious from not over eating.

I honestly can’t tell the difference between all the frozen yogurt chains — there seems to be a lack of differentiation between vendors’ products — except there has to be a color involved in the name of the establishment… Pinkberry, Red Mango, Orange Leaf, etc. I just go in, grab a bright orange cup, fill it with original flavored froyo, add some mochi, strawberries, blueberries, hope that I don’t contract hepatitis from the guy in front of me snacking on the gummy bears, and hand over my $ 5 bones to the cashier. Rinse and Repeat.
The crowd is usually a mix of stay-​at-​home soccer moms and teenie bopper Justin Bieber fans, though the last time I was here I thought I saw Honey Boo Boo’s mom.

At .55 per oz, it’s pricier than most but it is in Lexington… The coffee, vanilla and strawberry were spot on, creamy and not too sweet. The root beer float flavor was a gritty texture, as was the pineapple. Tons of fresh toppings including marshmallow! Lots of seating inside and out and it was clean and well stocked.

Totally fun concept — and great frozen yogurt, too! The process of serving your own portion (and getting to mix and match flavors) and the amazing topping bar are worth the trip — and great fun for a date. The yogurt is very fresh and tasty, and the prices are in line with the competition. A great addition to Lexington center, and one I will visit again often!

Convenient in Lexington Center, the shops funky décor is really attractive to the teen crowd in town. They have some great choices for yogurt. Personally, when I visit, it is just for yogurt not toppings. The topping selection is very open-​air «buffet» style. This is unsanitary. On a number of occasions I have witnessed folks touching the yogurt toppings with their hands. I have seen similar yogurt store models in California and they have dispensers for toppings. Much more sanitary.

Keeping the official 3 stars, but really downgrading to 2.5.
Just went to the new Orange Leaf location in the Wayland town center. That location blew this one out of the water. I won’t write a full review of that location here since it’s not the right place for it, but I’ll just say that the ~6 flavors I tried there, including the original, were much creamier in texture and flavor than what I’ve had at this location (with the exception of a couple water-​based — i.e. more sorbet-​like — flavors).

I was so disappointed in this little build your own frozen yogurt treat on Mass Ave in Lexington. I found out about it from my nephew who goes there with friends and loves it. So I thought I’d go there abd purchase him a gift card for Christmas. When I purchased it I asked if they had an envelope or gift card enclosure and they told me that they ran out but expected some in the next day. The next day, I called and they told me that the enclosures were in so I drove over there only to be told that they thought they came in but they had not.
While I was disappointed, I just placed the gift card in a Christmas card and gave it to my nephew.
On two other occasions I drove the five miles to Orange Leaf in Lexington for a yogurt for myself and both times they either had no hot fudge or whipped topping. When they ran out of te hot fudge, they had a squeeze bottle of what seemed like syrup that you would make chocolate milk with.
I will not be driving the five miles to be disappointed again.

We’ve limited ourselves to coming here just once a week because it was getting out of hand. Love all the flavors and toppings and the décor. The staff is super nice and helpful and actually look like they enjoy working there!

Just a stone’s throw away from another local FroYo place in Lexington. With such close competition I was expecting a different twist on FroYo. Maybe this place wouldn’t be pay per weight? Maybe they’d have other flavors? Maybe they’d have a better frequent buyer program or prices?
It’s very similar in all regards to its competition… that said, however, I was very impressed with the Wedding Cake and Red Velvet options. Tastyyyyyyyyy.
Only two cup sizes, both very big… so be mindful when you pull on that FroYo handle that you might not want to fill up your entire cup!
Fresh toppings galore are the perfect way to end your FroYo experience.

Too sweet. Other yogurt shops with a similar self-​serve theme have yogurt that tastes like yogurt. Not some over sweetened yogurt-​like product. Maybe the kids will like the over sugared flavors. Nice shop, friendly staff. One employee was too busy with filling her own sample cups vs helping customers, but it’s the summer so have some fun with the summer job.

This place is great. The décor is very functional, bright, and clever (integrating their logo into the shapes of their chairs, etc.) There are also some great historic photos of Lexington from the late 1800s and early 1900s.
Anyway, onto the yogurt itself. They have a nice array of flavors and you can serve yourself. There’s someone there to give you little taster cups, which is always nice. The first time I went, I got passionfruit, pineapple, and wedding cake. Maybe not the best combination, but they were all delicious flavors. The second time, I got wedding cake again, plus coffee, and brownie batter. Since the toppings were also serve yourself, I didn’t take any because of my nut allergies, but the yogurt alone was enough for me!
Only drawback: the cup sizes are big and bigger. It’s hard to keep yourself from going overboard with such huge cups and with so many flavors to choose from. Still, it’s fewer than 50 calories per ounce for every flavor, so you can’t go wrong!

I was with my friends when I saw the décor inside. It was bright, clean, and very cute. Therefore, my friends and I decided to go in and look around (not really intending to buy any). However, the person working inside let us try some samples. The Wedding Cake stood out to me and the three of us tried it. It was one of the best froyo flavored I’ve ever had. It was extremely creamy and not too sweet. We’ve tried a few more flavors and decided to buy some.
There were two size cups, one one is large, the other is HUGE. We got the «small» cup and piled on the different flavors. I got wedding cake, coffee, cookies and cream, and tart. The cookies and cream is pretty good, and the tart is decent (I much rather prefer berryline’s tart). However, the coffee and wedding cake is amazing!
Finally, the topping looks fresh! The fruits are bright in color. And the area is very clean. And when I went to pay, I thought I would have to pay over 4 dollars for this, but I ended up paying a little bit less than 3.50, which was a shock for me b/​c of the large amount of froyo and toppings I got. Overall, one of the better froyo chains I’ve been to, and I would definitely recommend this place!
TL;DR-Modern and Clean Décor. Great froyo (definitely try the wedding cake!), and not too expensive!
