Specialties
We are a 110-year-old Berkshire «cottage» which served as farmhouse to the Stonover Estate, and which has been renovated extensively to provide luxury quarters. The main house, Rock Cottage and new School House Suite are now receiving guests who desire a unique Bed & Breakfast experience.
Since a «full house» is typically 10 guests, we are able to provide personal assistance, in order to assure the most enjoyable Berkshire experience possible.
The inn stands beside a spring-fed duck pond on 10 country acres with magnificent trees, lawns and forest, and yet it’s just 7⁄10 of a mile from the Tanglewood main gate, and 2 miles from Lenox Village.
History
Established in 2002.
This imposing farm complex was built by John E. Parsons in 1890, and at the turn of the century the substantial farmhouse became the home of his son Herbert Parsons and Herbert’s bride, Elsie Clews. Herbert graduated Yale Law School and was admitted to the Bar in 1894. He met Elsie Clews of Newport at a winter house party in Lenox.
Grant Lafarge, an architect friend of Elsie’s, designed a small log cabin (still standing) in the woods just behind Stonover Farm, where Elsie immersed herself in anthropological studies. She and Mr. Lafarge took many research trips together, and Elsie became an authority on the Hopi and Pueblo tribes, about whom she wrote and lectured.
The house remained in the Parsons family for many years, until the death in 1985 of Herbert Patterson, John E. Parson’s great grandson. The appealing exterior of the main house remains identical to its appearance 100 years ago, and is a Lenox town treasure.
Meet the Business Owner
Tom W.
Business Owner
Suky and Tom Werman spent 23 years in Los Angeles, where Tom was a rock record producer with over 20 gold and platinum albums to his credit. Suky taught 5th grade in an independent school and was a museum educator. Both were raised and educated on the east coast, and are delighted to be back.
They chose Lenox after visiting the area several times on vacation. Tom flew east to look for the ideal Bed & Breakfast site, and found it the first day he drove to Lenox. When he saw Stonover Farm, he looked no farther. This was the perfect house in the perfect location.
The couple had stayed in many B&B’s on both coasts, and while they loved the experience and the people they met, they came to feel that there was no need to sacrifice convenience for charm. They have outfitted the beautiful Stonover Farm with just about everything any visitor may desire.
