Rice House Chinese Restaurant

This place always seems a step above your average Chinese place. The sauces seem better, even the General Tso’s the kids get. I usually get the shredded pork with garlic sauce.
They give you free crab rangoon when you order a certain amount, but my kids never eat them, so I end up eating too many. I mean they’re no good the next day, right?

This place is awful. The (who I’m assuming is) manager never even looked up from his phone when I walked in. I sat at my table for a bit. Nothing happened so I went to get my food from the buffet table, and almost everything was empty. It didn’t seem like they were taking any efforts to refill anything either. Once I scrounge what I could out of the bottom oft he buffet line, I had to ask the manager for both silverware and a drink. Sit down to eat and the food doesn’t taste terrible aside from the rock hard grains of rice that I’m still picking out of my teeth. The chicken was stale and dry. And the rice noodles had been left for so long, they too were getting crunchy. Please don’t go here… You’ll waste $ 8 on a worthless restaurant.

These guys rock. Food always tastes consistently good. I ordered yesterday and I’m ordering as I type this. Well, I just ordered.

If I could go lower then one star I would. I tried this for the second time today and can honestly say it’s some of the worst Chinese I have ever had. The smell is fishy and I did not get fish. This is the second time. Don’t order from here.

I go to the state line location which recently opened. The service is good and friendly.
The meat quality is good. The asparagus chicken is great. The hot and sour soup is good. So far I’m pleased with food.

The food here isn’t truly authentic, but very good for Americanized Chinese. Typical family run Asian place, so don’t expect great service. For those nights of Chinese To-​Gos, this place hits the spot. Best Americanized Chinese place in the area.

Thought I would give this place a try… Sadly enough the best part of my meal was the fortune cookie.

I used to enjoy this place, that time was when they didn’t have a buffet. Was in the area for work, so I decided to stop in. The buffet was almost empty of food, what they did have was cold and tasted old. The 2 people i saw working cleaned the tables quickly after someone left but otherwise they were sitting around or playing loud and annoying music off their phone.
I would not recommend this place to anyone, it has gone down hill and fast. I paid 9.63 for the buffet and a drink, don’t waste your money.

Not much has changed. A friend of mine insisted they had changed… but cold buffet was still the norm… with the offer to microwave it… probably stuck her finger in it again…3 years since I last saw. No Way… go to ABC café… its REAL Chinese, and REAL professional.

I’ve been here 3 or 4 times thinking «Oh maybe they will have stepped up their game, I mean they are still open so it can’t be that bad right…» WRONG! This place is disgusting and not worth $ 7.99 for lunch. I will describe today’s visit:
My 7 year old daughter always wants to go to buffets, so she can pick and eat like a bird at a wide variety of foods instead of just one. So I gave in a decided to give Rice House one more shot. Walked in the (broken) door, that tried to shut on us and had to shove open, to see a newborn infant laying on blankets in a booth, near the front door, with no one nearby. I’m assuming the baby was an employee’s because later she went and sat across from it. The seating was very confusing she just said «menu or buffet» and we waited to be told where to sit and she just kind of waves her hand. We chose a booth and heard «drinks?», as another reviewer said. I ordered a hot tea (which was a pot that she filled with hot water from a coffee pot and a tea bag hanging over the side) and had to ask for some ice water to go with it. The guy working there followed us around the buffet and then asked me how old my daughter was. Pretty sure that could have waited until we paid right? The food… ugh I could go on for paragraphs about how old, slimy and dried up everything was but I will spare you. It was worse than the worst Chinese buffet I’ve eaten at. Cold, stale, bland, you name a bad adjective and it applies. My daughter wouldn’t even eat the plain lo mein noodles. She said they were gross.
The staff were shouting through the kitchen at each other in their native language the entire time we were there, not even stopping to check people out at the register. They just kept chit chatting as he was ringing people up. I immediately decided that it was time for us to just pay and go. I was sure we’d done enough damage to our guts already.
The place is dirty and you can tell they are getting by as cheap as they can. One thin paper napkin per person with no extras anywhere at a buffet? Avoid at all costs! Took me less than 45 mins after eating for my guts to say «Nope!» Unless you have Iron guts avoid the potential food poisoning and go somewhere, anywhere else.

Was in the area and the kids were really hungry and they wanted Chinese. Have driven by this place countless times and decided to give it a shot. We did the lunch special and everything was terrific! The sesame chicken was loaded w/​flavor and was cooked w/​white meat which is the way to go. The quantity was on point as well. Will definitely give it another shot. Pleasantly surprised.

Ordered food at 9. Delivery set for 30 – 40 min. Called at 10. No answer. No freaking food. Email with charge to card.

A Big disappointment.
$ 8.66 for Lunch Buffet. Not fresh, or very hot. Not that good.

The price of the lunch specials are great for what you get. They are very fast. It is pretty basic, but they are consistent. Nothing wrong with that. Like some of the other reviews– I have never been to the buffet, so I cannot comment on that. When I go, it is usually for lunch on the weekend, and I do not think they have the buffet then.

My husband and I went to the Rice house several years ago when they first opened. The food then was okay at best they tried to serve us instant ice tea. U tried them maybe two years ago and was not impressed. I went there today to give them a third and final chance. I figured there must be a reason why they are still there. Boy was I wrong. The buffet was very small. The broccoli chicken looked just like some other chicken thing that was near it and they tasted the same as well. I tried another chicken item and the chicken was rubbery and tasted a little weird, The salt and pepper shrimp was breaded and the breading was gummy. I also tried the hot sour soup and it had little flavor the, flavor it had tasted like the two chicken dishes that tasted alike The ice tea and coffee are still instant the one lady who has been mentioned in previous was again on the phone. I cannot imagine how they have lasted there so long. There use to be a very good Chinese place in the Henhouse that is located in the same shopping center. They were ten times better that this place. There is now another Chinese restaurant in hen house while they are not as good as the original place they are still better that rice house.

I stopped in for takeout. I ordered crab Rangoon and Princess Shrimp. They were pretty busy with orders. One call in order was huge. A lady had her order in before I got there. It took them quite a while to finish her small order. She left and about 5 minutes later, one of the ladies shot out of the kitchen and ran into the parking lot holding a cellophane bag of food (like the lady was just hanging out in the parking lot for 5 minutes).
A few minutes later, that lady returned holding a bag of food that was obviously wrong and they gave her the items that had now been sitting around for about 10 minutes. Yum?
They then placed the bag of food she returned into the phone order bag. Okay. Stop. What? This lady actually drove away with this food, dug around in it enough to realize it was wrong. Possibly licked it or rubbed it on her hiney and you are just going to put that in someone else’s bag especially 10 minutes later? Gross. Gross. Gross. It took all of my energy to not run up to the person who picked up that order and tell them what happened, but I sat in silence only shaking my head with the shame they should have felt.
Well, finally my food got ready so I headed home. Hmmm. I kind of wish they’d sent my food home with someone else because it was pretty BLEH. Next time I want edible, but unexciting Chinese food, I’ll go to that panda place.

Since I’ve moved into the area had to find a new take-​out Chinese place that met my standards. This one met it for sure. If you go to their website you can actually place your order online first then pick it up.
All the food was your basic take-​out nothing out of the ordinary, but we enjoyed it. Really enjoyed the General Tso, and also I love the take out containers they can be recycled, rather than just throwing them out. We The staff is very friendly as well.
They do have a lunch buffet I have not tried it yet but I know it’s there.

I agree with the reviewer that said it is basic inexpensive Chinese food. It is better than the grocery store and fast.
I have had good service every time I have been here. I always order the cook to order and it is fine.
The egg rolls and orange chicken are good. The sesame chicken and orange beef are okay. The General Tso’s chicken could use some more spice but it will do in a pinch.
I haven’t seen any food or health violations and the staff has been nice to me. Fast and efficient.

Let me start off by saying, this is my first review. And I really wish it wasn’t a bad one. But if I could give this place no stars, I totally would.
We got to this restaurant at about 6:30. You know, typical dinner rush. The waitress was really rude, and forced us to sit at a booth without saying hi or anything. Just, ‘drinks?’. She forgot to put ice in my friend’s drink and neglected to keep our drinks filled at all while we were there. My friend had to get up and put ice in her drink herself, and I had to refill mine. While this chick filled everyone else’s drink around us. Whatever.
Besides the rude staff and drink ordeal, we then checked out the buffet. Everything looked old and goopy, like it had been sitting there since 4 pm. No steaming vessels and no hot food in them either. Already disappointing. Then we started eating. Ew. Our food was cold and tasted horrible. I’ve had better chinese food at a grocery store.
Before we were even finished with our meal, our waitress came around and basically threw our ticket and two fortune cookies on our table. To top it all off, one of them didn’t even have a fortune in it! Gah! I strongly discourage anyone to go to this place. If you’re passing it and really hungry, keep driving and find something else. Please! I’m still mad they got $ 11 out of me.
