Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft Stores

I’m so stoked about moving close to this. The one on Sports Arena used to be the closest to me and it was such a pain to get to and super grim. Now this one is easy to get to and the customer service is pleasant and helpful. No complaints.

Fabric Stores always remind me of such fond memories of Mimi (my Grandmother) looking through the pattern books for outfits, finding the pattern and the material for my one of a kind outfit. Mimi had mad sewing skills! I however don’t know how to and don’t really have the desire to sew. I was actually looking for RIT dye… that s**t is hard to find, in stores. This store has almost EVERY color of dye that RIT makes. My boring white cotton underwear are now a bright pink! A couple of pair have the tie-​dye rings (if you met me, you would never guess!).
They have all kinds of great material and cool crafty stuff as well! Bring on the sparkly stuff!

Since I’ve become a mom, I don’t know what it is but I find myself in craft stores a lot now. I love Joann’s for their good coupons and multiple coupon combinations. This location is smaller than the one on Fletcher Parkway but I was really pleased that they have a particular ribbon I was looking for that I had purchased at the other location.
Anna was super nice at checkout last time I went. The time before that a guy who worked there didn’t know which isle things were located on. Maybe he was new but knowing his store would help me as a customer & give them a 5 star rating from me on Unilocal

Tiny selection. No scrapbooking items except paper and albums, a few stickers.
I got in line behind 9 restless customers, who were visibly upset about the long wait, not including the lady in front of me who lost her patience and left. There was only ONE cashier, who was incredibly slow and more interested in socializing. She shouted out that there were only two people on the floor so she was the only cashier. What kind of business is this?
Needless to say, after that, I set my item down and left. I will never return to this location. They didn’t even have any of the items I came for!

Jo-Ann’s has the best coupon deals. Every month I get coupons in the mail for 40−50% off select items in the store (join their mailing list). They always come in handy because I am a crafter and I love to make a little of this and a little of that.

The store is always neat and clean. The shelves are always full with merchandise, and the staff is friendly. They are happy to answer your questions and to make helpful suggestions. Sometimes it can take several minutes to check out (customers ahead of you using their coupons) but the cashiers seem to be efficient with the process.
It’s a fabric store so there is lots of fabric and they update colors and themes, according to the seasons i.e. Christmas, Easter, Fourth of July etc. They also carry staple fabrics that are popular for any season.
There is a huge selection of yarns, notions, jewelry making supplies, felt, floral arrangement supplies, makers, assorted needles (knitting, sewing, crocheting, and needle point), fabric paints, brushes, framing supplies, scrapbooking supplies and more.
I am happy to say «I have never had a bad experience in Jo-Ann’s».

This has to be one of the slowest, most poorly managed retail establishments I’ve ever been to. In addition to the terrible service, the store is a mess and the selection is limited. Never coming back.
Please do not waste your time here.

This store is smaller than another I went to. They don’t have a variety of fabrics and the selections are small. The staff are nice and friendly and there is usually not a super long line to get your fabrics compare to the other Jo-​anns.

First of I would never say anything to jeopardize someone’s job. I will not use the person’s name that assisted me this week. We walked in the evening of February 2^nd and I asked to used the restroom at the cutting counter, I was told «it was not sanitized?» Again I told the person that I had to pee, she told me the restrooms were only for store customers. I am not a kid, I am in my 50’s. Do I look like a druggie or a pimp. I think not.
What I want to know is what does a customer look like? We obviously were shopping my lady friend is 81 did she look like a hooker? Please train your staff from Europe not to be rude to your customers. I won’t return to the store with mean people, I made mention to a sweet Afro American women on our way out. She was sorry for my encounter.

Tiny location and a tad bit expensive. I waited in line forever. Nice customer service but not enough employees.

This store is not as nicest as the one on Fletcher Parkway. I walk in ask a young lady if they had baskets, she was very nice. She informed me she will ask. The Manager was at the cutting table no customers. She rudely told her «well have you ever seen them No we don’t. » Wow that was so rude. The Manager then yells we have them at our other store. Ok Then I will always shop at the other store. I feel really sorry for the employees working for that Manager This was at 3 in the afternoon she had a accent. I have always shopped here in the past and good customer service. The Manager needs to go!!!

In all fairness this should be a 3 star establishment. They don’t have a big selection, over half the store is fabric, with little sections for each niche craft. They are only accessible from one side of the Main Street (Broadway heading east). They don’t have the front consistently staffed at the registers and the store is moderately clean. My gripe and the loss of a star comes from my most recent experience. I bought a $ 5.99 Wilton cake pop display stand. I had to go back to get the correct tip to ice my daughters cake and saw a nicer metal cake pop stand. I went back home and grabbed the first one and tried to find the receipt but to no avail, as it had been lost in the mess of shopping bags and cake mess in the trash. I brought it back anyway figuring with no receipt I would get store credit for the value and they could find the purchase by my card. Well apparently they can’t do that, and they took all my info and offered to give me either $ 3.20 or $ 2.20, either of which is ridiculous, how the duck do you give me half or less than half off on a purchase from TODAY? Less than an hour earlier!!! The short hispanic lady checked me out and the white girl with an accent was working the other line!!! Then I got the lecture from the manager that this is how it works everywhere, that you get the lowest price within the last 90 days if you don’t have a receipt and that he has worked at four different retail stores and this is how it works everywhere. (White guy with a beard). Ok douche, I have never had this happen anywhere, and if it is only worth $ 3.20 then how come you were fine with charging me $ 5.99 plus tax for it an hour ago? Duck Joann’s, I’ll just drive to Michaels in mission valley, do it with icing in Clairemont, or Albertsons/Walmart/Von’s to get my supplies in the future… The stand I was trying to purchase was $ 10.99, so it isn’t like I would have even profited from anything, I was wanting to exchange and pay the difference, but apparently they don’t want my business so I will take it elsewhere.

I was just rung up by April. When I asked her a direct question about the online coupons, she rudely ignored me. She begrudgingly totaled my order, but not before exasperatedly informing me that the remnant I had chosen from the bin had no price on it, and that I would have to go back to the cutting table to have it measured. How was that my fault? Aren’t remnants supposed to be measured and priced already? It was unnecessary to be so rude about everything.
Came home and saw the reviews of this place. Not surprised, bi**hes here be hatin’.

I’ve known about this place for years, but never once thought to Unilocal about it because it wasn’t worth the time… yeah, that’s all changed.
There’s a new crew, a new attitude, and their worries are few. Yes indeed, this place is under new management, looks clean and spacious, and they’re serious about helping you out with your crafting and sewing needs. If it comes in a bolt of cloth, a spool of thread, the eye of a needle, or artsy crafty, they got your number.
So you say you do bead work while you’re waiting on the acrylic paint to dry on the figurines you just bought, and you’re wondering if there could possibly be some form of all containing plastic box that might hold your mighty collection of tiny knick knacks and doo hickeys… why yes indeedie, Jo-Ann’s has just the thing.
You will weep for joy as you peruse the aisles, and cop block people who try and get to that tiny clothes steamer you’ve been eyeing.
Do yourself a favor and dig on their wares, you can’t go wrong.

This place is totally different now! It’s clean, organized and has friendly staff!!!
Someone even walked me to the aisle to show me where my item I needed actually was! They didn’t just point me there!

I kept giving this store the benefit of the doubt because I live so close and it is so easy to pop in. Never again! This time I was buying a rainbow loom and wanted to use a 40% coupon but was told, «Just so you know the coupons aren’t working with these.» Obviously not the cashier’s fault but what irritated the tar out of me was that when I asked why I could not get any answer except «I don’t know, it just doesn’t.» Really? How lame of an answer is that? What stinks is that for fabric there really aren’t any other options in San Diego but next time I will go to the Fletcher Parkway store. And when it comes to crafts? Michael’s here I come, even if I do have to drive out of my way.

The service here is not the greatest but they are not rude. Lines can be long because they are slow and don’t have enough help. I do keep coming back because of the sales and availability of my crafting supply needs.

I live very close to this store and so out of convenince ususally head there for my crafting and sewing needs. But let me tell you all these reviews are so accurate. The employee’s are the worst part of the store. I don’t seem to have a hard time finding things if I look long enough but I have stopped asking the employee’s for advice or help since it makes my shopping experience twice as long and the help I get is far from it.
When I went to the store yesterday to purchase some fabric for a school project I was trying to use my Android phone for the coupon. I had previously had an employee tell me that all I had to do was download the app and they could scan the screen. I didn’t use it last time since everything I had purchased happened to be on sale.
Well, after asking several employees if they knew the name of the application I needed they said Anna would know. I found that she was the only person at the register. I didn’t want to hold the line up but when purchasing for a school donation (making waldorf crayon rolls for all the kids in 1^st grade) I wanted my 40% discount. So I get to the front of the line and by then thank goodness they had opened two registers since the line had grown. Anna politely helped me navigate the various websites/​apps I had found yet there were no coupons to be found.
My frustration is that if something like this is offered they should have an instructional handout that explains how to find the application. I ended up almost signing up for a 9.99 per month coupon app that was not associated to Jo-​Ann and finally downloaded a free app that claimed to be Jo-​Anns that was NOT. Anna finally gave up after several customers and the other employee doing the register loudly complained that she was helping me. The poor employee, having to stay at the register so another customer could be helped… really people!
Anyway I found the REAL app this morning is Jo-​Ann listed as a large J in a dark green block. It is free and it definatley appears to work. I finally got my discount thanks to Anna. She was polite enough to give me the 40% discount on one item and I left happy. Thank you Anna!

I dread having to go to this Joann’s! Its a very small disorganized store, frequently sale signs aren’t up, or the prices are wrong, and the sale section is a hot mess. The manager is a very mean European woman who yells for no reason at the customers and employees, there’s never a line yet somehow its always a 15 minute ordeal to checkout. I would rather drive 45 minutes to the La Mesa Joanns just to avoid this one.
To tell you just how bad here’s a recent scenario I observed while shopping-I’m at the cut table and the manager is cutting sale priced upholstery fabric for another customer, she then begins to argue with the customer for no reason at all, telling her that someone switched the price tags and insinuating that maybe the customer did it! She goes on to say there’s no way the fabric is the price that’s marked, another associate comes over to help and scans the barcode-​guess what lo and behold it was the price of the tag!
So she finishes up with her and then walks away! Manager then frantically asks a new employee that’s working the register to switch with her, the employee protests because she not trained to do the cut table yet. I stand at the cut table for a good 10 minutes watching the theatrics then finally another associate helps me. The manager then logs off the new employee and tells her to go to the back that she’ll ring up this customer because «there’s problems» the customer realizes whats happening and says «Can someone else help me, you’ve been rude enough to me already» and then the real fun begins! The customer refuses to be helped by the manager and says she’ll wait for someone else to ring her, in front of everyone the manager calls out on her lil headset «Watch her, shes stealing fabrics and change prices, you have to watch her» I was appalled!
I’m now standing at the register trying to pay along with another customer who happens to have a walker and is elderly, I tell the old woman to go ahead. Manager puts her hand up, walks away and continues to talk on her headset instead of helping the old woman! Now I say something finally and she mutters «WE so busy here, and not enough staff and that lady ruin everything she trying to steal» Really? This sorry excuse for a person is the manager! The sad part is I’ve been here many times over the past 3 years and each time have similar experiences, which can be mostly attributed to the crazy manager and how sloppy she runs it.
