Jo Ann Fabrics & Crafts

This is the best Joann store in San Diego. It’s big and it’s well stocked. I have always find what I’m looking for. The employees don’t seem to be too happy to work there but haven’t got a problem yet.

Peter was amazing. A (a month, probably now – I have been remiss in posting this review!!) few hours ago he helped me at the register, and showed me a coupon that I would have otherwise missed. Are you under-​utilizing Peter? I hope not, he’s a GEM.
There’s usually a positive vibe in here, I’ve been coming here for a decade – and even when I’ve slid in just before closing (like a jerky customer), they’ve been extremely kind and accommodating.

Excellent selection of all needs sewing as well as sundry hobby craft items. Amazing service and help by experienced staff with measuring and curing fabric. Checkout is friendly and quick. Highly recommended.

Robert, you are awesome! Thanks for all the help because I’m in 1^st grade in my sewing class. I’m still learning. Looking forward to your guidance helping me find stuff that I need. I love you;)

This is becoming a problem in the last few years where people feel the need to take their dogs into stores with them.
When I was in Joanns a few days ago shopping for some fabric, I noticed a lady shopping with her dog in the cart.
Needless to say I put my fabrics back and left.
I find it absolutely disgusting having the dog in the cart let alone in the store. Stop and think about this. Dog walked around outside, takes a poo outside then is brought in and placed in the cart where you will be place your fabrics or other materials.
You bring your stuff home not knowing what was in the cart before you. That dog that was in the cart you used has left fecal matter behind and possibly has internal parasites that could be past along to you and your family.
I love all animals but I don’t love them in stores. The only exception is a service dog and I’m not talking about your house hold dog that you fake being a service dog!
Unfortunately I will not be shopping here again!!!

I have a love hate relationship with this place. For the most part I can find what I’m looking for and when I can’t there is always someone I can ask. Things I think need improving are a bigger selection of on trend fabrics and patterns and that everyone working there needs to know how to sew using a pattern. The last time I was there the young girl helping me had never seen before so she wasn’t much help. I ended up buying way more yardage than I needed. Also, the coupons should work for everything in the store. It frustrates me when I go to check out and this that and the other are not included. I know that’s out of their control because it’s a corporate thing.

So thankful to have a big, clean, friendly Jo-Ann’s close to home! The store is well-​organized, and I always feel like there are enough employees working and they’re happy to be there (a welcome change from the location closest to my old home).

I am a big fan of this location, it’s larger a than the one in Lemon Grove.
In the afternoon I noticed a lot of moms come by here around 3pm which is cool. I’ve noticed that some deals vary between locations so check out different locations to see if the items you’re looking for are on sale.
Currently there’s a 10 for $ 2 card stock sale going on.

I’ve been a frequent Jo Ann’s customer for many years, but this one has by far the best customer service! Much better than the location in Point Loma, which is the one I usually go to.
I went in only an hour before closing, and while the store was pretty dead, there were quite a few employees about (I saw/​interacted with at least 4). I stopped a woman who was clearly in the middle of something to ask where the spandex/​stretch fabric was, and not only did she help me, she stopped what she was doing and walked over to the area to show me! Then, when I needed to get my fabric cut, there was no one at the cutting table, but as soon as I walked over, someone appeared right away to help me. Better yet, when I asked her if she’d used the Fiskars Scissor Sharpener I had in my basket, she said she hadn’t AND showed me her trick for sharpening her scissors. Saved me $ 13!
To make the experience even better, when I went to check out I presented my coupon from my email, as well as one from a coupon app I have. The coupon I got from the app was expired, but the cashier helped me find more coupons and ultimately I saved $ 12.
Store was also very clean and well organized. Next time I’ll probably drive a little further to this Jo Ann’s instead of going to the one in Point Loma.

Well, I’ll tell you, this store is huge and has such a large selection of fabrics and crafts. Super organized, super clean, and fairly reasonable prices but they lean to the more pricey side. I’ve found exactly what I needed there. Lovely place, but not a fan of the snobby lady chewing her gum loudly at the cutting desk who thought I was an exchange student, though I spoke pretty coherent English? Just a warning, if you’re somewhat new in sewing and finding what length of fabric you need they might, most likely, totally judge you so come prepared and know what you need!

Love their crafty stuff, has a ton of variety, but man every time I go there the service is terrible. Today the lady at the cutting counter made a hasty generalization about me? I don’t want to get too specific, but it made the conversation real awkward. She was fooling around with another staff member and all that. Her attitude wasn’t so great either, but hey the rest of their staff are unfriendly as well. I always leave without a smile. Good products, but service means a whole lot to experience.

I have a new love for arts and crafts. Who knew I was so talented? lol
This store is a dream. I swear I want to walk out with everything. They always have coupons you can find online and just show them on your phone. Lines are always a mess here. Long lines for fabric, long lines to check out but it is a one stop shop so I guess i can’t complain too much.

I was tagging along with my wife to Jo Ann’s the other day. We must have spent at least 2 hours in the store. This Jo Ann’s is a big one. Lots of crafting supplies. Prices were fair reasonable, especially when you consider all the discounts and coupons. I don’t recall any employees offering any help. A customer asked me if I worked there I said no but maybe I can help. He asked me a question that I was able to answer so he thanked me and went away happy. That happens to me a lot lately. The cashier was friendly. Had she not been so friendly I’d probably only gave them 3 stars.

4 stars for their customer service! I’m surprised that I was being helped in about every aisle I walked through. When I go to another particular arts/​crafts store, it takes me about 30 minutes to even hunt someone down to ask a question.
Jo-Ann’s store has also improved, I walked in and was amazed by the upgrade! Looks great. Also, Retailmenot has awesome coupons for Jo-Ann’s. I found a 50% off any item in the store!

So far I like this location a lot better than the Midway location in Point Loma.
* This location is one of their larger stores and it’s busier, be prepared to wait in the cut line. Grab a ticket first and shop for your fabric. Plenty of parking.
* The staff here is friendly and helpful. They didn’t print my cut ticket correct and took the time to fix it.
* Right before closing, they announce several times they are about to close and when they open again in the morning.
Even though this location has pretty much the same items I can find at the Midway location, I’d rather travel a little farther and go to this location instead.

They have quite a bit of stuff the down side is. They are pretty pricy for the most part. Its extremely hard to also get someone to help you out. Countless times I’ve needed help to find something or even find out if they have what I’m looking for and its just a pain in the butt.

Selection is amazing! They have alot of pieces in the jewelry isle downside? They apparently have alot of theft in that isle (sad) an now they have this odd machine when you walk by it it says help requested in the jewelry isle and random employees come up to u a number of times asking if u need help. Lost count at 5 lol just gave up looking and left. The fabric is great tends to be more on the older appeal side not to many skulls or nothing no big deal I just go to Rosie’s calico cupboard
The cut table is frustrating and the number system tends to set the older generation off.
I go only as needed but I order online mostly now anyways

This place is huge and has many more options, however the staff is not as friendly or as good as the Lemon Grove branch. I would come here again if my local store does not have what I need.
PS: Do yourself a favor~come on a week day early for the best service

Came here looking for glass paint, the kind you can bake on so it’s permanent. On this day, I counted six workers on the floor, stocking the aisles after the weekend.
There were two women working in an aisle and I asked them where the paint for glass was. I explained what it was. One said she’d show me. She led me to Poster Paint in the kids’ craft section. I said no and explained again what I needed. She took me to the craft acrylic paint aisle and it was all acrylic, which will wash off. Then she said, «What about spray paint?» as if any random paint would do for any application. Nope. I explained it again and how I was going to use it. English was not her first language, but she said she understood. She also might have been new. Yet she didn’t go ask someone else for help in locating the product or helping me.
I left that craft section and came across another woman in a different section, and she told me to try the fine art section.
In the fine art section they had nothing like it, just oils, tubes of acrylics, watercolors, etc. I asked yet another worker and she said they used to carry glass paint but she thought she saw it all on clearance.
I went to Michael’s instead.
It would be great if an employee, upon not knowing something, asked someone else who’d been there longer. Maybe the store gets mad at them for asking for help from other employees.
