This restaurant is quietly nestled in a shopping center next to The Guitar Center off Pleasant Hill Road and offers authentic Indian cuisine. I went for dinner late the other evening, and I tried the Tandoori Shrimp($ 11), the Chicken Tandoori($ 9), and the garlic naan($ 3). All of the dishes were overall fairly good, but I’ve had better Indian food for much cheaper. The shrimp was well seasoned but a bit on the salty side, and the chicken was extremely spicy — too spicy that I couldn’t eat much of it at all. The rice and nann, however, were hits. I probably wouldn’t come back anytime soon for dinner, however, I’d be interested to try out their lunch buffett for $ 6.95.

First off, there’s a typo for the name of this restaurant. It’s actually called«India Cook». It’s nestled back in the corner next to Guitar Center. Atmosphere was OK. Clean in appearance, nothing to flashy. It was my first time here so I opted for take out. Staff was friendly. I ordered the veggie samosa, chicken cylon, lamb vindaloo, chana masala and aloo gobi masala. Unfortunately, I wasn’t impressed with the food at all. First, the aloo gobi was so salty that I couldn’t eat it. After the first bite, I called the restaurant back to complain. They were cordial and offered to give me a free order of the same next time I came in. I’ve never had chicken cylon before, but it sounded interesting. That too was salty, not as much as the aloo gobi, but pretty bad. It was supposed to have a prominent coconut flavor, which was completely overpowered by the saltiness of the dish. The lamb vindaloo was spicy, but not tasty spicy. Plus, the pickled pearl onions were missing. Chana masala was decent, but from a flavor perspective, I prefer its southern Indian counterpart for taste. The veggie samosas were bland. This place has been in business for two years. I’m surprised I didn’t come across it sooner. I do enjoy northern Indian style food, but I’ve really had much better. I may give it another shot to try some other items from the menu. But my initial impression just wasn’t that great.
