History

Established in 2002.

My wife and I started Summerlin Dance Academy in 2002. Summerlin Dance Academy has grown over the years from a 2-room studio with just about 1500 sq/ft to a 5-room studio with over 8000 sq/ft. Our friendly, family atmosphere makes coming to the studio fun not only for the students, but for the waiting parents, too.

We have viewing windows in 4 of the 5 dance rooms which makes watching your child in class very easy. For your convenience, we also have a flat screen TV that broadcasts live video from each dance room, a TV to watch your favorite shows, free wireless internet, 3 bathrooms, and 2 dressing rooms.

The health and well-being of our clients are top priority. We have a Purell hand sanitizer station in the lobby to help prevent the spread of germs. Our studio is professionally cleaned regularly. They use a «Green Cleaning Process» that is designed to provide a clean and safe environment free of harsh, toxic chemicals and utilizes the most up to date equipment and supplies.

This is the first time I have reviewed anything on Unilocal but I felt compelled to do so after the treatment we received. This review is for Studio One’s Broadway Bound program. We signed our kids up for a trial class and arrived 20 minutes early. The front desk staff was as rude as could be and didn’t welcome our kids or offer to show them around. The phone was ringing off the hook and they constantly put people on hold. Just total chaos. They said to go down the hall to the studio where the class was being held. Once we walked in to the lobby of the studio, the instructor walked up to the door and closed it without saying hello. Once the kids entered the class, they said we could watch on the TV in the lobby but then were told that that studio didn’t have a video camera so we could not watch. Our kids said that the instructor (Michael) did not introduce the kids to the rest of the group and did not make them feel welcome at all. When class was over, the kids just came out and Michael did not even come out to say thanks for coming or offer any further explanation of how things worked there. We came home and found that our credit card had been charged for both kids. I guess they assumed we would continue? I had emailed Michael prior to the class but never received a response back. I emailed again and never received a response back. When calling the office manager, the phone rang and rang and when they finally answered, they asked if they could call me back. Just try calling any time and you will see they never answer the phone. When I finally talked to the manager, she did say that our credit card charge would be reversed but seemed too busy to care that we were disappointed.

My son started taking the beginner acro class and absolutely loves it. We pull up to the parking lot each week and he is running to the door. Thank you for inspiring my son and giving him something he looks forward to each week

Two of my girls take classes here… My older one takes ballet now she switched to acrobatics because the ballet teacher can barely show her full pointe as she is an older lady! Come on! Kids needs to see to imitate! The ballet teacher does NOT correct at all. She basically just gives the combo and goes on her business like fidgeting with the music. It takes her literally a few minutes to find the music PER combo she gives!
My little one (4 years old) takes the combo (tap/ballet/acrobatics) the teacher doesn’t give a hoot if my kid is paying attention or not. She has her daughter demonstrate in the class as well. Like mother like daughter both are not friendly people! If you don’t like kids, don’t TEACH kids is my philosophy!
After the semester is over, so are we.

We were very dissatisfied with this dance studio. I took my 4 year old grand daughter to a combo class and the instructor was very harsh and punitive with her during the first class. Apparently, my granddaughter’s skills were lower than required for the class. The instructor explained to me that her job was to «correct» the children and not let them «get away» with anything. My granddaughter came to the class loving dance (after 2 years at another studio) and left feeling very sad and feeling that she couldn’t do it. We brought her to the second class, but she cried and wouldn’t try it. We didn’t go back.

The Summerlin Dance Academy in Las Vegas is not for anyone that wants to be a professional dancer. The instructors that the school has, currently, have poor qualifications, the parents are vulgar (while waiting for children and while attending the recital), and the director of the school only has administrative experience and zero dance experience or perspective. The only good thing about the school is that they dress the kids well, at the recital, so that when the children to not improve their dance skills, nor learn noted techniques, they at least look cute and impress low-expectant parents. For best results, please find a qualified private dance teacher or a better and more classical dance institution, for your child.

I’ve only met 2 people that work here, the instructor and the front desk clerk. Front desk clerk is very nice and gives informative info. The instructor didn’t really say anything to us when we dropped off our daughter. Not sure how to react towards that. They make it convenient for us to do an automatic payment where they take money out of our account every month. If you do sign up to pay that way, they give you a $ 5 discount each month. Saves me money and time. The waiting room is not very roomy and is uncomfortable to watch while waiting.

I attend Jazzercise here at least 4 – 5 times per week. It’s amazing! High-energy dance workout with lively, exhuberant, knowledgeable instructors. After only 2.5 weeks, the toning results are very apparent. Nice rubber floor to absorb impact and mirrors to check your posture. This class makes you forget you’re working out but the soaked clothes after class prove different.
