Spring Valley Montessori School

How is this school still running? The director of this school is still the director after her 24 year old son was charged with possession of child pornography just last year. Her adult son with a long history of mental illness lived with her and had cartoon child erotica pictures on the wall in his bedroom along with a life sized doll dressed like a child on his bed (24 years old) at his moms house, where he lived, and she thought «oh hey I have a great idea, let’s have our mentally disturbed child erotica loving son work as a PE teacher at our school for young children!» I would never trust my child’s safety here you have been warned.

I absolutley love this school!!! My granddaughter has been there for 9 years!!! She loves the teachers and says she never wants to leave the school.
Shes had so many great friends over the past few years. She loves dancing at the concerts and practicing for them! Its a great school and you defintently have to put your kids in it!

Absolutely love this school and its teachers. My child is growing in leaps and bounds with the support of the great staff.

My son has attended Spring Valley Montessori School for the past 2 years, since the age of 19 months old. When he started school, he was developmentally delayed and only spoke a few words due to his extreme prematurity. I expressed my concerns about his ability to complete the tasks in class and I was told not to worry, they would teach him, and did they ever! My son learned Spanish, sign language, and self-​help skills at such a rapid rate, his therapists and pediatrician were amazed. They also stress manners and taking turns. When we were ready to start potty training, Ms. Anita told us to just put him in underwear and they would train him. It took a while, but eventually we were successful. By 2 years old, he progressed to the preschool class because he had learned all of the letter names and sounds, colors, and numbers to 12. In his new class, his vocabulary and academic skills began to skyrocket. He no longer needed speech therapy and physical therapy and was not only caught up to his peers in all areas, but he was significantly advanced. He is now 3 ½ years old and has a solid foundation of early reading skills. He can also recognize double digit numbers to 99 and name all of the continents on a map. The Montessori method just makes sense by allowing students to advance at their own pace in a mixed-​age group. This school exposes students to higher academic content that traditional preschools and when they complete the benchmarks in class, they are moved to a higher class, regardless of age. Since my son interacted with older kids, his speech and vocabulary improved exponentially.
Parent-​teacher conferences occur twice a year so you can get updates on your child’s progress. There are performances for almost every holiday you can imagine, which always include a feast for the entire family. Just get there early, the tables fill up fast. There is a feeling of family between the staff and the parents, which I think is so special. I feel as though they love my child as if he were their own.
The only thing we would change is that it is very far away from our house, about 30 minutes, but it is worth the drive for the level of care my son receives. Have I mentioned that we love this school?

I hate to be negative and write this review, but I am really disappointed with how things turned out.
The school’s director knew my son was only going to be attending for 3 months max– we exchanged emails and she made some sort of exception to let my son attend school here for the duration of our stay. Husband’s military orders got moved up and had to leave a month early and I was involved in a car accident first week in Vegas and sustained spinal damage. It’s relevant bc I needed to get a surgical procedure in DC to have time to recover.
I asked if I could have some prorated tuition back for November since my son attended 2 days in Nov and we had to leave and
She (school director) cited the contract stating certainly no refunds (my family has been using this school for YEARS maybe like 8 – 9 years). It wasn’t like we were strangers per say.
Son went to school for 2 days in Nov and they said, sorry. Thanks for supporting the troops! I understand they have a business to run, but they knew my situation and I communicated with them the entire time. They even initially asked me for a supply fee of 250.00 knowing that he’d be there a very short time. This was waived, but i thought it was silly to even ask for knowing he wasn’t going to use 250.00 in supplies!!!
I think she could have come to some sort of an agreement knowing i wasn’t really operating on a contract bc we were only there temporarily.
I’d take her to court to get my money back, but it’s apparent that’s how they run their business sporting a Marine Corps Eagle Globe and Anchor on their license plate and then not doing the right thing or meeting in the middle.
Pros: my son academically excelled, small classes, peer mentoring
Cons: play area is tiny and inadequate (it is a backyard essentially)
some teachers did not receive their degrees from US and I feel that make a difference. My son’s teacher was kinda hot tempered and her English was very broken. That bothered me bc I could not often understand what she was saying and I know for sure he couldn’t either.
Integration of somewhat low functioning autistic kids in regular classrooms. My son was getting called the F word and getting spat at almost daily bc a child there was «different» as they explained.
It doesn’t feel like private school, they are renovated homes in a neighborhood.
I am pissed about the loss of a month’s tuition, but I’ll get over it.
These people are really nice people, but it’s more about the $ which I get in today’s struggling economy, but still not right.
