Specialties

No Insurance Needed!

Prescription and non-prescription glasses and sunglasses. Due to operating in the Container Park, Monocle Optical is able to offer extremely low prices on name brand frames and premium lenses because of the low cost of operating. You pay a small but reasonable markup over the actual cost of manufacturing the glasses. Most prescriptions can be finished within 15 min if lenses are in stock and you get to watch the process!

History

Established in 2015.

Mr Monocle has had a deep passion for eyes ever since a childhood accident left him blind in one eye (hence the name of the business) and has been passionate about helping people see and look their best. He has been an optician since 2005 and has worked in every capacity in the industry from big box stores to labs to small private doctors offices.

With an honest belief that glasses shouldn’t cost as much as they do, he began Monocle Optical to change things for the people that come visit him. With very low overhead costs (i.e. no doctor to pay a salary to and no medical billing staff) the large markup on frames and lenses can be slashed way down. Oddly enough, the theory that frames and lenses should have a reasonably small markup from the manufactures cost is a radical idea in the eye-care industry! People with vision insurance still end up paying huge amounts for their glasses and people without insurance are forced to pay much more. Monocle Optical has set out to change that.

Meet the Business Owner

Eric H.

Business Owner

Eric «Mr Monocle» suffered an eye injury (think A Christmas Story) as an eight year old child. Since then he’s been making punny eye jokes and studying optics at any chance he gets. Throughout college he planned on attending optometry school to become the «One Eyed Eye Doctor» where he got his first job as an optician. As an optician he saw two huge problems in the eyecare industry: 1. Many other opticians selling glasses didn’t have the knowledge or product availability to get the best product for their patients and 2. Insanely high prices for glasses. So he set out to change that!

Rather than going to optometry school to spend his days giving eye examinations, Eric realized through his years of experience as an optician that his true passion is getting somebody the best quality glasses for their personal situation.
