Broken Spoke Bikes

I just moved from Tucson to Pahrump and broke a wheel, totally Bummed!!! I called and made the short 1 hour drive and let me sing the praises of these folks at Broken Spoke Bikes. They order me new wheels at an affordable prices and even gave me a loaner wheel so I won’t miss my rides until the new wheels came in. Didn’t look to far and found my new bike shop, for life!!!

I had both my Specialized tune up by Broken Spoke, a Dolce and a Roubaix. They did excellent work, and the bicycle ran great. I did read some reviews, that they leave a few spots of grease on the bicycle frame, but it wasn’t a big issue. I just cleaned it with a towel, which took less than 15 seconds. The accessories are reasonable priced, with holiday specials to help reduces the cost. I did ask question regarding Bluetooth trainers, which they did not carry. But, they did help me look it up online and gave excellent suggestions.
Overall, this is a nice and friendly shop. I did noticed with most bicycle shop around town, you would probably need to speak to them first. They like to give people space; but once you approach them, they are very eager to help.
Just say hi to them, and let them know what you are looking for. Then, let them handle the rest.

Service was good but I’ve never paid quite so much for a tube replacement. $ 18 seems ridiculous. Otherwise, the shop is well equipped.

Purchased their tune-​up on groupon and a new bike tire. Not sure if they did anything for the tune… There was still dirt on the chain and sprockets that was there when I dropped it off a week ago… Additionally, when feeling chain, sprockets and derailer, no grease had been applied (hands clean after rubbing). Breaks were not adjusted and still make noise when stopping. $ 60 for a new tire (the cheapest one they had in stock) seems too high as I’ve gotten new tires at other shops for ~$ 25 and they will oil chain and derailer at no cost. Would not go again.

Rented a bike for a day ride, and was take care of very quickly and professionally. Friendly staff and was an easy to do business with. Bike had everything needed for my ride except oxygen and more endurance for riding Red Rock Canyon.
No issues of game playing, if your looking for a great place to rent a bike I highly recommend this business.,
The door handles are a marketing hit, good job who ever came up with the idea.

I’m always surprised by how rude the employees are. I purchased something and if not for my own friendliness, the cashier would have only given me my total and nothing else. No «Hello» no «Goodbye» nothing.
Very over priced. I go when I have no other choice.
Also the riders on the Broken Spoke cycling team are slow. HAHA Easily left in the dust.

A group of us rented mountain bikes for a day riding in Red Rock. Great service, bikes, and route suggestions. They also rented us a rack for our SUV. Would use them again!

Nice place kinda no nonsense that caters to cyclists that ride not just collect bikes. I came here to rent a bike for a few days while I was in town. You have to do it online and it was very easy. I picked it up late in the afternoon before they closed and kept it through the next day, so I was able to get two rides in the area. I brought my pedals which they installed and they gave me an allen key to adjust the seat post and a tube with CO2 in a bag. Overall very nice guys who were helpful to an obvious out of towner.

Just because the bike was rusty doesn’t mean your work had to be too. Went in with a project bike to get a tune up and bring life back to this oldie but goodie. I don’t think my bike should have been treated with any less care. I’m from San Diego the pro cyclist treat the urban explorers as equals, this is a poor representation of the Vegas cycling community. It’s pretty sad when you don’t even make the minimal effort and shame on you for accepting payment for a job not done.

I had a great experience at Broken Spoke Bikes. I came in from Florida and wanted to rent a good bike to do some riding here. I was given a 2015 Felt road bike with the latest Shimano 105 components. They even took the time to mount my seat, pedals and GPS mount for me. They acknowledged me when I came in with street clothes on so I was not in cyclist gear. Gave me some tips on places to ride and where to get water. I had a blast and would go back again.

These guys are amazing! They are my GU spot!
I’ve noticed most of the negative reviews on here are about their customer service… These guys are busy busy busy, so speak up if you have a question or need assistance! They will not disappoint!

No nonsense store. They get the job done and know their stuff. It’s not a Macy’s where every single person who works there greets you. ;) This place also has a Retül bike fitting service.
**Long-​winded, aka, RaDragon version:**
I needed to have my stock Specialized MTB receive some TLC. Found Broken Spokes on a random search and read the reviews: Hmmm. not so great. Saw a Groupon deal (50% off their «Advanced Tuneup» service) and went for it… Might as well roll the dice since it was a great deal. (Get it? Dice? I’m in Vegas? Hehe. ;))
Anyway, I went at the start of the week (late morning), and knowing that I wouldn’t be greeted upon entering (didn’t mind), I walked my bike towards the back of the store. There was only one other customer there and it was at the tail end of their conversation. I was polite, smiled, and told the dude I needed my bike maintained and had a Groupon deal. I handed him the Groupon print out, and he handed me a service slip/​form to write my info. After filling it out, I also mentioned that I will need new rim tapes/​liners — «Liners?» he clarified; «Oh, yes, liners, I responded, and explained that I noticed they were worn after I switched out slick tires back to the knobby ones. He said «ok», made a note of it on the slip and then handed me the top part. I asked him for a rough estimate on when I could pick up my bike and he said «Wednesday» (i.e., 2 days after I would drop it off), and mentioned that I would get a call when it was ready.
Fast forward to the next day (Tuesday afternoon) and my mobile rings — it’s Broken Spokes and my bike’s ready! Went to the shop with my receipt and handed it to the man at the register (different guy). He was already like, «Oh, he’s getting your bike at the back.» He also asked me if I had already submitted my Groupon print out, I said yes, and then paid my bill. Out comes the dude from the day before with my bike; he confirmed that he had replaced the rim liners and also said he had to change a top part of my front brake (where the cable meets the cradle) because it was rusted; he casually asked if the bike’s been used somewhere close to the coast, and I was like, «How’d you know?» (Duh — I still had the «UC Cyclery — La Jolla» sticker on the frame. xD)
After this transaction, I asked how much it would cost to have a bike assembled from scratch, and he gave me the pricing for a full build (i.e., parts still in boxes), and partial build.
Overall, I had a pleasant experience. Didn’t feel slighted, nor ignored; then again, I was the only customer there. On the day I dropped of my bike, I did linger to look around the shop (they had a bargain bin — I had to check it out) and during this time, a couple came in inquiring about their MTB rentals; another man handed them a flyer and that was it. They may lack «bubbly customer service,» but I didn’t feel like they were cold or unwelcoming either.
I’ll come back here to have my road bike built (once all the parts have arrived) and possibly consider the Retul fitting service.
p. s., I test drove the bike later on, and it was great! I can ride it without holding the handlebars again (not that I would on the trails, of course). ;)

I chose to take a look at this shop for gear since I usually bike by the Red Rock Scenic Drive. Coming in nobody said «Hello» or any kind of acknowledgement at all. I didn’t mind since I feel pressured when people do that for some reason.
Anyway Me and my friend were looking into their gear and decided to buy a couple of accesories and a jersey which was at least $ 100+. They were okay with me having to go back to my car for my wallet and all but come time when I asked one of them to help me install a pump holder on my bike the guy said in a British accent «I’m sorry but I’m quite busy right now. I’d love to do it for you but I’m in a bit of a pinch here.»
There were only 2 customers in the store and 3 employees.
One guy was already ready to take lunch at 9am in the morning when he didn’t do jack s***while the other one looked like he was struggling to figure out what to do while doing nothing. Provided I’m not white and the British lad decided to put more effort in helping the Caucasian customer and giving me an excuse instead makes me think otherwise about the dudes in this shop.
Never will I set foot on this shop again. Provided I am looking into purchasing a Felt bike and they carry those I would rather drive all the way to another store carrying Felt bikes than deal with these people. Nice to know even in the world of cycling there are people who think white is the only color who has to be respected.

The staff gets overwhelmed when there are lots of customers, but, it’s a small bike shop, with a very friendly, knowledgeable staff and take the time to share their knowledge about equipment, local rides and trails. My wife bought a couple of bike shorts and t-​shirt and some needed tire irons. I’d make this place MY LBS for sure!

Great to have a shop nearby. Not a lot of inventory, but great for servicing. Love that these guys let me bring in components I buy on the web and they do the install/​build. No upselling or pressure!

I enjoyed taking my bike in for a tune up. They made it easy, as I live across town. I would go again.

Idk if this is common in most bike shops, but I was ignored as I walked in. Soon as a white dude came it, he was asked how he was doing and how he could be helped.
I get this often. I’m a trans person of color and try to support places that not only include folks like me in the staff but at the very least notice we exist.
All I wanted were some tubes.

I am not a biker. I’m a wife and mom who wanted to get our bikes ready for the spring and summer. This place is close to home and is fairly priced. I was appalled at how I was treated. I stood in the store for 30 minutes, by the register, just waiting for someone to acknowledge me. The store employee was talking to a «real» biker and could see me but never even offered a hello or we’ll be with as soon as we can. I’m not an irrational person, I understand waiting for help, but to ignore me entirely is just poor customer service.
When I was finally given service they treated me like I was in the way and bothering them with my simple tube replacement on three bikes. I was told I would get a call when they were ready, I had to call them. When I went to pick up my bikes I stood around for another 30 minutes while the TWO store employees took care of all the bikers around me. Again, not even so much as a hello until they were ready to help me.
Now, the pricing is fair and they work quickly, however the impression I got was they only want to work with the pro bikers and tourists. The mom coming in with family bikes only takes time away from more important business. I will not take my bikes to this store again. I’ll pay a few extra dollars for kindness and acknowledgement… somewhere else!

I love having this so close to my house. It is nice to get my bikes serviced here. They also have a great selection of bikes and extras you can buy.
I have noticed after reading the other reviews that I was not alone in feeling that the customer service is not great here. You would think it would be excellent since they are the only neighborhood store in the area. The workers seem to have a little bit of a snotty attitude. I hope this is not because they think this is the only store people will go to. Because don’t worry, people with bikes will travel.
Putting aside the attitudes, I did have my bikes serviced here and they did a good enough job for me to return. The prices were in line with other shops and they got the work done in a timely manner.
I hope the management reads these reviews and takes the advice in to consideration. It really is a nice bike store and I hope it stays in business. It would be a shame to go under because of non friendly workers. If you are in the bike world, I would definitely give this place a look.

I am so pleased to have this new bicycle shop in my neighborhood. I took my bike here yesterday to find out the reason for multiple flats with the front tire. The young man at the store replaced the wheel liner to protect the tube from the spots where the spokes connect to the wheel. Then he showed me the under side of the tube. A hole was there from where the connection rubbed the tube and caused yet another flat.
The price was less than other shops charge for less work and it was done on the spot. Having this shop in the neighborhood means I can ride my bike there and walk home when I take it in for a tuneup. When ready, I can walk back and then ride the bike path back home.
I certainly am glad I went here yesterday instead of returning to my previous bike store. This was much better!
