A Cut Above Hair Studio

Lori, is amazing!!! I love how she always double/​triple checks what we are doing to my hair. The atmosphere is very upbeat, and professional. Have only had my hair done by Lori, but the rest of the staff are very sweet and accommodating.

The worst haircut I ever had my whole life. I was thinking it was the best salon near our place based on the reviews. I’m really disappointed with the result of my Asian Mullet Haircut. It’s not even close to the picture I showed as a reference. I can’t even wear my hair down without tying it. It’s was very awful

I had originally had my hair cut with Lori. She did a good job, so I decided to get blonde highlights because it had been several months since my last highlight (we just moved here so I was trying to find a new stylist). So I went in and she asked me what I wanted. I told her I needed blonde highlights. I specifically told her I wanted white blonde not yellow blonde. She asked me if I wanted her to put the bleach on my ends too. Since they were already blonde from previous highlights I asked her if it would make my hair two different colors. She said no. She used the balayage method to highlight my hair and put it both on my roots and my ends. When she was washing my hair she put toner (that makes it more white blonde) all over my hair and let it sit for quite some time. When my hair was rinsed she took me back to cut my hair. I noticed that the bottom half of my hair was blue and the top was a yellow blonde color (which I hate) so my hair was two different colors. She told me she would not charge me and she scheduled me the next day with someone else to fix my hair. So I came in the next day and Donna was the one to fix my hair. Again I told her I wanted white blonde. After she highlighted my hair again, it was still yellow blonde and the bottom still had an ashy color, but it was better than what had previously been done. So she ended up charging me 102 dollars to fix my hair which honestly I don’t believe I should have had to pay for because it still looks awful! The more I looked at my hair the more upset I was. I called on Monday to talk to the owner. I was told he never comes in. I asked to speak to the manager. Well guess what, Lori is the manager of the salon. I feel like if you are the manager you should know how to do a simple highlight. Also she should have been the one to fix my hair not someone else. Needless to say I knew I wasn’t going to get anywhere getting my money back. This review will hopefully prevent anyone from going there. I will never go there again.

I just got my hair cut by Lori after being recommended by a friend and I love how it turned out. She made sure to do what I want which is very important to me after previous experiences in other salons. She also gives amazing scalp massages during the shampoo process. I will definitely be back next time I’m in town.

I am pretty picky about my hair and have had a lot of trouble finding someone in the Vegas area to cut my hair the way I want it, but Jessica listened and cut it perfectly.
I am going back for sure and would recommend this place.

Called 15 minutes before intending to go in for a cut and style, and was accommodated easily. Came in a bit before 3 and was seen immediately, which was great since I had to be somewhere before 4:30.
Renee did a fantastic job with me today. She gave me just the cut I asked for and was considerate of what I wanted in my cut, especially after having grown my hair out for 2 years and getting attached to my hair. Was in and hour under an hour, and I had a lot of time to spare! I believe I’ve found my go-​to salon!

Made appointment for haircut with possible hair color. Got there and told my lady, Donna, to cut then color (why pay for long color??) But she puts the color on straight away. Showed her a picture of how I wanted the cut. She says because it would be wet for the haircut (not that that couldn’t be remedies with her blow dryer or anything) so she puts the color, freezing stuff! Gasped every time she added some and told her it was too cold «back room is cold.» She then sent me off to a random chair to wait while she cut someone else’s hair (I didn’t know this was going be happening or I would have taken my belongings! So I’m sitting there with freezing roots getting a migraine because of the cold so I ask someone to either take the stuff out or warm it up and I get out under the cold air of the chair blow dryer. Finally she’s finished enough of the haircut to finish putting color in so I go to a random chair in the place and she finishes putting it in. Her and her coworker go into the back to talk about me and she puts a cap on to keep it warmer. She didn’t do the color to the roots because i told her I was getting about 4 inches off. Finally the haircut is done so she washes out the color. She and her coworker go into the back again to talk about me. She comes back and starts the cut. She doesn’t really ask me what I want and doesn’t ask to see the photo and I can’t just leave without it all colored. She starts cutting it straight, 4 inches off around and I say that I want it A-​line so she proceeds to do it. Made a comment about how hard the haircut is (scary comment that should have hinted that she messed up!!) It looks good from the front and I’m just ready to leave. I pay and get out to my car and boom! I remember that she never showed me the back!!! I go back in and get a mirror from someone else and check it out. It is awful! Big chunk missing from one side and it is uneven! Ask her to at least make the chunk even and she says that it is layered and curled in such a way it looks uneven. She was the one who curled it! Why should it ever look uneven and missing chunks if you curl it right? There is no curling that will make it look like this. She just scissored it a bit and said it was fine, just hanging wrong. I kept trying to check it out in the mirror but couldn’t get s good look (a good beautician would hold a mirror so I can get a closer look but she didn’t). It looked slightly better so I left but when I finally got home and took some pics, you can tell that it is going to at least be ½ in inch shorter because the missing chunk. Calling tomorrow to see if they will have someone fix this!

I love Lori here. She has done an amazing job on hair and color every time. I come in about every 5 weeks.

Had my hair colored there and it came out orange!!!
Hair color is honey brown — NOT ORANGE!
Hair dresser said that someone put the color tube in the wrong box‼
To fix it she did 3 more color treatments in 4 – 5 hrs.
NOW MY HAIR IS FALLING OUT‼‼‼
She also stated that this was not the first time this happened!!!
Rule # 1 in school is always check tube and box MATCH.

I am very happy with my service from Sam. The shampoo and round brush were the best I’ve ever had. I’m her new client!

Went here to get my hair cut about 2 weeks ago. The lady that cut my hair was a nice but should for sure find another career. I have recently noticed that my hair was cut un-​even, and I’m not talking about layers. I’m saying she forgot to cut a few pieces. Very noticeable since I got almost 5 inches cut off. I will never go here again. I paid $ 20 to have my hair screwed up and didn’t even get it washed!!!
Over priced for people who aren’t very experienced.[

My husband had called and made me an appointment here with Donna for today at 4pm. I sat behind him when he made the call and I wrote down the date and time and I was so excited and a little nervous about going to a new salon. Something came up and I had to cancel for today. Imagine my chagrin when I called them and they told me my name wasn’t in their system at all and Donna, my supposed stylist to be, had the entire day off! I had the receptionist double check because I knew I wrote the time and date down correctly. I understand mistakes can happen but this was a very bad mistake indeed!
Needless to say I will NEVER go to this salon if they will book someone in and place them with a stylist who isn’t even working. That tells me a lot about how much they truly care about their potential clients. If I hadn’t called, I would have went into the salon today thinking I was going to be getting my new cut and color and I would have been embarrassed in front of everyone when she told me I wasn’t even on the books! Bad form A Cut Above. Maybe you need to think about a name change to A Cut Far Below!

I am extremely picky when it comes to my hair, and I took on chance on this salon. It was so worth it. I’ve been coming here for a little over a year now, and I have had my hair cut by pretty much every one of the stylists, and I have never been disappointed. Their customer service is excellent, the price is very reasonable, and the standard for quality is high. I will continue to come here as long as I’m in Vegas.

I was a walk in over a year ago… love my «Sara» she took my damaged hair and made it full and fabulous in just a few months! Love her, also great atmosphere, all the girls are great! I enjoy the new chairs today too! Cuts, color, styles… everything!

i called this week to see if there was any availability for a same day coloring, and they fit me in right away. i showed up and was promptly led to a seat, where donna heard my ideas and we decided together which color to go with. she mixed two custom colors for me, because my ends and roots are different colors. donna knows her stuff on coloring, so i was very pleased to have gotten her on such a spontaneous appointment.
i went in with an open mind on which red i would leave with, and i love the vivid hue she gave me. she lightly trimmed my a-​line, and styled it. i also was given a little tube of color to take home, because she knows red fades so quickly, and would definitely lighten on my previously blond ends.
color starts at 70 and ladies haircuts at 30. my total was 90 with a discount and without tip.
i recently moved to vegas, and i believe ive found my go-​to salon. (i saw another lady get an elegant updo, as well.)

My daughter got her hair cut today here! And we love it! So adorable! I was nervous for her to get bangs but she loves them and she keeps looking in the mirror saying «ah, I just look so cute!» Our stylist was wonderful and. It was all around a good experience :)

Went in today and got highlights, as well as red and purple on the highlight and a dramatic a line cut from long hair. Courtney did an amazing job. She listened to everything that I wanted and offered a lot of very helpful suggestions. I’m very very happy with the end result. I spend 170.00 for everything and with how much hair I had and 5 hours of work that is an awesome price. I would highly recommend Courtney to anyone and will be returning. So happy I found an awesome hair stylist here in Vegas! :)

Lori is absolutely amazing ! My daughter wanted something different and wanted to go really short. Lori ended up giving her a haircut she and I both loved! She took her time with my daughter explained everything and her hair came out amazing and it was all for reasonable price !!(less than $ 11!) I even used a coupon which they honored graciously! I highly reccomend this place!

My first time today, and Lori did a nice job on my hair. She styled it more than I would’ve expected after giving me a very subtle trim and layers (just like I asked for). She was sweet, did the best she could to get me into a conversation (I admit I wasn’t the easiest person to get talking — usually am, but today I was a little tired and out of it).
Definitely good haircuts at a nice discount price. Plus, there’s a check-​in offer I’ll likely use the next time I go in.
I went today (Sunday) and it was very easy to get in with no waiting. I probably shouldn’t have told you that, though, because now everyone’s going to want to go in on Sundays. *face palm*
Overall, a good experience. I would consider going again.

I feel like with haircuts, there’s no room for error. I mean, I two-​star haircut will stay you with for a while before it can be rightly fixed, no? A three-​star hair cut is kinda the base expectation you have, and a four-​star haircut is what you want. So what’s a five-​star haircut? Glad you asked…
I five-​star haircut is when the synergy of the place really makes it shine. In the case of A Cut Above Hair Studio, it starts with the name. With a name like that, I almost expected to walk into a place where there were lots of kids listening to music and being hipsters with too-​tight pants and lights and other annoyances. But this place is not that! It’s really cool! So that’s awesome.
Secondly, I really enjoyed my haircut from Lori. She took a minute to figure out what she was working with (I have caveman-​like hair habits, it seems) and attacked. During the course of the haircut, she was cool and we talked about all manner of stuffs. From the fact that dogs think they’re people to the weather to whatever. Then, she did this scalp massage thing during the shampoo portion of the cut which was awesome. I literally could’ve fallen asleep if it were socially acceptable to do so.
Finally, the hair cut/​finished product. Honestly, my idea of a nice hair cut is a number 2 all around. Easy to do, can’t mess it up, and I do not have to do anything with my hair to get ready for work or school or whatever. Lori was really cool about telling me I needed to get up to speed with a fashionable haircut, and I let her do her hair cut thang. Finished product? A really sensible haircut that I can mold in three seconds out of the shower that seems to be a success with the womenfolk.
Also, this place has a killer music selection going.
All that together is five-​star worthy in my book!
