Regency is definitely a favorite for us in the Lansdowne area. We love walking or jogging over for breakfast. You really can’t go wrong with any of the breakfast sandwiches or rotating quiches. Not the biggest fan of the lunch selections, but it’s more of a personal preference thing for me and the one sandwich I did have(ham & brie) was very good. We’ve tried a few pastries, I don’t know if we arrive too late in the morning, but usually many are sold out by our arrival. But I ordered an assortment of cupcakes for my 2012 wedding and they were fantastic. I deducted one star due to a bad experience I have recently. As, I stated I usually enjoy the quiche and will often call ahead to find out what the flavors of that morning all. There’s usually no issue. However, one morning in particular I got a worker(older Asian woman I’ve seen in often) who was very rude to me and stated«I don’t have time to talk. I’m busy» before hanging up. I was completely stunned by this and haven’t been back since to be honest. I’m sure I will return in the future, but for now I’m just not in a big hurry. Otherwise, the prices are cheap and the food delicious. And I’m glad the staff doesn’t let one bad apple spoil the bunch because everyone else is friendly and amazing. It’s a great place to get a quick bite and hang out for a while.

When I would drive my tired self home from night shift at one of the cities in the hospital, sometimes the only thing that would keep me awake was the thought of getting a breakfast sandwich to go from The Regency. Specifically, the egg, tomato, onion and havarti sandwich… on toasted sourdough, baby! I’d meander my way back to DelCo through all the double-parked cars, the stop and go of the 42 bus, and jaywalking college students, thinking of that delicious sandwich, and how I was gonna eat it and then promptly fall into a blissful sleep. Of course, they also have fantastic pastries(oh my God the almond croissant…) and coffee. Whole milk vanilla latte? Yes, please! It’s great having a café so close.

I am a Regency regular — but today was a really off day. It was extremely hard to get my order right — which was not a difficult one. My soup was lukewarm. My sandwich was badly prepared as was that of my friend. I was even given the wrong cookie. Also — this is the worse part — one of the server kept rubbing his eyes and face while working with food. YUCK! I am hoping this was a one time bad day. I will go back and hope that one of my favorite places has not gone really downhill.

The time is listed incorrectly on Unilocal. They close at 430 not 630. I had a yummy brie sandwich with caramelized apples and a delicious mango smoothie. The girls who were working there were very sweet and hospitable. As i waited for my sandwich one young lady said we were welcome to stay inside while they cleaned up. However, as I sat and waited for my sandwich«to go» a woman came in, I’m assuming the owner, and started muttering under her breath something about working too hard. Then she looked directly at me and said, «we are closed, please leave. Im not going to be nice anymore.» I was only waiting because I had paid and not received my food. If I wasn’t so hungry I would have demanded a refund on the sandwich. I’ve never felt so unwelcome in a business in all my life. Not a way to run a company. I felt sorry for the employees who had to work under this woman. I guess she’s lucky I’m from out of town, because if she treats locals this way I’m sure they would stop supporting her business.

The Regency Café is a cute little eatery that’s relatively quiet with a cozy little«nook.» The prices are decent and fair. The iced Chai tea has a soft, smooth taste and the Caribbean Colada smoothie is creamy and heavenly sweet, although the only complaint I have is the level of thickness — — It was difficult at times to sip through the provided straw — — I suggest drinking the smoothie straight from the glass instead. I didn’t feel that the croissant I had possessed the desired texture I had in mind; it was crispier and firmer than how I normally prefer the texture to be, but I enjoyed the flakiness and buttery taste nonetheless. It was quite filling. The sweet cream cheese Danish was everything I expected it to be. Although it was my favorite pastry from that single dining experience, there was nothing exceptional about it. That isn’t to say that it wasn’t good; it was sweet, soft and sated my dessert craving. The sandwiches are a must. I’ve honestly never had better toasted Multigrain sandwiches in my life. I had the egg, tomato, and havarti sandwich toasted on Multigrain. It was my first time trying havarti cheese and it turned out to be love at first bite. The eggs were nice and fluffy and the entire sandwich was packed with flavor. The bread was toasted to perfection; crispy and crunchy, but soft enough not to break teeth. I would definitely return to the Regency in the near future. Prices are reasonable, the food is inexpensive, the sandwiches and drinks are highly recommended, and there is a cozy little corner to the left of the entrance when you go in where you can have more privacy away from the hustle and bustle of other café goers. Looks like the café has earned itself a new regular!

This place is great and in a great location. Really good coffee, even a regular cup of coffee was tasty. I had the bagel ham egg and cheese. One of the best I’ve had in a while and didn’t take long for the food. I went there for the first time the other day and will be going back. Chill atmosphere and nice employees. Outdoor seating too.

Shirley’s soups are worth the trip. I’m a vegetarian so I usually get the eqg + havarti breakfast sandwich or even better the roasted veggie sandwich. I usually pick the side of greens to go with it and you get a huge amount. The coffee is decent but their fancy coffee drinks are great. Try the machiato. My friend has been a barista for years and even she is impressed with it. I’m always surprised that this place is not always packed. Regency is the gem of Lansdowne! I do wish they were open later than 5pm.

This weekend, my wife and I participated in the Eat 4 Peace restaurant week organized by Rep. Margo Davis’ office(for which Regency Café received free advertising in the local paper on several days). We’d never been to Regency before, but heard good things, and went because of its inclusion on the list. The whole event was built around the idea that you get a token 10% off your order(hardly anything) and a sticker on your restaurant ballot saying you were there. Although Regency offered to give us the sticker(indicating they had definitely agreed to participate/were aware of the terms), we were told by the cashier, «Oh, we can’t do the 10% off.» Really? While the food was certainly good enough and the atmosphere pleasant, this response was remarkably off-putting and did not endear us to the management. 10% off is barely a dollar when ordering from a coffee shop, so we could certainly spare it. But nevertheless, the event was the entire reason we thought to try Regency Café for the first time anyway, and it was seen as disappointing that the restaurant didn’t honor that WHILE receiving whatever benefits existed from taking part in the event. Don’t get me wrong, the complaint here does not lie with having to part with our $ 1.50. It lies with the stingy, cold first impression we got upon our first visit that Regency was unable able to part with THEIR $ 1.50 for the sake of an event promoting independent restaurants around our district. The quiche was excellent, but I’ve had better croissant cinnamon rolls elsewhere in the area. I agree with the other reviews I am seeing that it is a shame this place isn’t open later(seems like a missed opportunity) and that the management is so unpleasant.

One of my favorite spots to go for a sit down or take out brunch/lunch. Amazing soup and sandwich combos, delicious coffees – iced and hot– so many flavor options, not to mention the delicious baked goods, and the look and feel is mismatched, cozy, shabby chic. It’s super cute with local artists’ work on the walls and always a great radio station on. I’ve come here on dates, with friends, or just to do some writing for a while! Very cheap pay to park lot right across the street– and it’s free on Sundays! The staff are always attentive and friendly– and so many cafes like this lack exactly that. This one has it all. Love this spot, hope it stays for a good, long time.

Shirley is always effusively nice to my boyfriend and me when we come in. I have never witnessed her being disrespectful to anyone. She is kind of loud though. I think that’s pretty normal for people who run restaurants. The food is good here. I always get the breakfast sandwich on sourdough, and sometimes an almond croissant. Both are great. The coffee is decent and you get a large cup. I do wish it stayed open later.

This place has so much potential. It was sooooooo WONDERFUL5 years ago under its original founder. It had amazing baked goods, best for miles, and was a great location for hanging out. Plus it stayed open till 9pm and had live music several nights a week. When the current owners bought the place, they unfortunately starting running it like the lunch truck on Temple’s campus that they ran before this. The food is just barely okay. The baked goods are monumentally sad in comparison to what was sold before. They close really early so that most Lansdowne residents never have a chance to patronize them. Overall, the staff is nice. The exception is the obnoxious owner. She’s either shrilly yelling at here staff at the top of her lungs or she’s shrilly yelling insincere«friendly» conversation at the top of her lungs to the customers in the same exact voice. Its unignorably annoying in both cases. Even when she’s back in the kitchen it fills the space. This could be due to a deficiency in her command language, and I try to be patient, but its just god damned torture. I’m there right now and this aural assault has been going on for 20 minutes. Why do I still come here if I hate it? Because I try to support all of the small businesses in the area. My hope is that soon the Lansdowne Theater will be restored and hosting events as seems more and more likely and someone else, hopefully more adept at running an indie café, will offer the terrible current owners a buttload of money for the place.

This actually would be a nice place and as a neighborhood resident I really wanted to like and support this place. The owner unfortunately is extremely rude and has the worst attitude I’ve ever experienced. One of the workers was mopping the floor so I waited by the table where I wanted to sit and opened my laptop before sitting down. As I waited, the owner walked up and immediately started yelling at me to leave and telling me that I was just using the wifi and yelling at me about kids in the neighborhood. First, I am 38 years old. Second, I had actually purchased lunch there and tea just 2 hours before. Third, it’s a café. She continued to yell at me for several more minutes. I eventually left. In an effort to support the neighborhood, I actually returned the next morning to explain to her the problem with yelling at customers. She told me she does not care. I left and will not be back. The workers are nice though. Sad.

i love Regency Café. it is not fair that it is so close to my house! Usually i just stop in for a delicious, well made, carefully assembled Café Latte. You wouldn’t think it is that big of a deal, but they really make it right. i am going to dare to say they are better than Starbucks. yep, i said it. I always get fantastic service going in, and the staff is well versed. It’s clean, and always seems very neighborhood-y.(that’s a good thing). Convenient parking, and tables inside and outside. It’s right next to the theater on main street. easy to find. They have a full breakfast/lunch type menu, with delicious pastries(almond croissant among my favorites) and yummy sandwiches. My favorite so far is the Peanut Butter-Banana-Bacon and Honey panini… you can get with chips or a salad, and i opted for the heaping portion of greens lightly dressed in balsamic. Seriously, this sandwich is to die for. i don’t know why you haven’t made your way over yet to get one. seriously, go now.

I feel like this place has made some improvements since I first reviewed. The coffee is more consistently good and the food is always good for the money. The décor really isn’t my thing, pale green and mustard walls with way too many paintings everywhere, but it could definitely be worse. Mostly, when I order a mocha, I want it to be an enjoyable way to get some caffeine and Regency has delivers 9 times out of 10.

I’ve frequented Lansdowne the past 5 years because of my fiancé’s family. I now live in Lansdowne and wanted to try some local places to feel more at home. Regency café was a wonderful choice. The staff is accommodating and the atmosphere is so comforting. My fiancé and I had a latte, chocolate croissant and two breakfast sandwiches. The food was fresh, fast and delicious. Can’t wait to go back.

I love this place I am here once a week for breakfast with my boyfriend. I also frequent Lansdowne often. The service is good. They make a wide ranges on things.. Kick ass lattes. The atmosphere is cozy and in a homey type way. I have been to other Cafés around center city Philadelphia this one makes the best lattes I have had in a very long time! Ya know what they say Haters are going to hate so let them and keep moving on!

So I wrote a review recently and I noticed it’s listed under not recommended. I wonder why? I never said a negative thing about the food. I just had an opinion about the owner and her awful demeanor towards her staff in front of customers. I run a business as well and I would think the customers opinions are respected.

Probably one of the best kept secrets in the area. I’ve never had a bad meal here. Seems like everything here is pretty much handmade and it shows. I’m not sure what the dressing is they use for their greens, but it’s pretty damn good. I suggest getting the spicy roast beef sandwich with greens. I doubt you’ll be disappointed.

Oh. My. Goodness. I love this place so much! I’m a little obsessed. I’m always on the look out for an indie coffee shop where I can settle in and get some work done but the ones I’ve come across are usually lacking in some aspect. Not Regency Café! This is a cute, quiet, cozy coffee shop serving excellent coffee and outstanding sandwiches and pastries. It offers abundant seating and the friendliest, sincerely passionate employees. These people are proud of what they serve and it shows! The menu is extensive, compiled of classic and innovative soups, salads, sandwiches(including breakfast all day), quiche, pastries and more. I love that you have a choice between chips and greens as a side to your sandwich. The greens are fresh and the homemade balsamic vinaigrette is delectable — I never, ever skip this. I love the chicken pesto sandwich — I’m a huge fan of sundried tomatoes and they are the perfect compliment to the incredibly moist slices of chicken. As far as coffee I LOVE the Medici — mocha with orange zest — it’s incredibly aromatic. An almond stuffed croissant pairs magnificently. Another thing I love about Regency is that they open early(6:30 am). I just wish they stayed open later into the evening. I’m completely over Starbucks now that I’ve discovered this Lansdowne jewel. Cheers, Regency!
