Lakewood Dentists and Orthodontics

While, for the most part everyone is very pleasant and the office is top of the line with all the bells and whistles I would not recommend this place. There must be a reason they can pay for all those fancy new gadgets that they want to try on patients! Here’s my personal story: The first time my husband and I went there they did an extended panel of X-​rays that were good for 5 years, supposedly. Well, they didn’t bother to tell us that these weren’t covered by insurance and we each got a bill for nearly $ 300. Thanks! Then the hygienist said I needed a deep cleaning so I went ahead and let her do it — most terrible dental experience of my life and I’ve had deep cleanings done in the past. I now have to take anxiety medication before dental visits. I didn’t go back for a year and a half I was so terrified. My second visit went great though. I saw a doctor this time, not hygienist (I don’t know why they scheduled it like this) and he said my teeth were fine, gums looked good, no deep cleaning just a regular cleaning was needed that day (even tho it had been 1.5 years mind you) & he wanted me back in 6mo. Well, I ended up letting is slide until 9mo and what do you know they wanted to do another deep cleaning. So my gums go from being just fine to «moderate periodontal disease» in just 9 months! Really? I call BS & have asked to have my digital X-​rays sent elsewhere so I can get a second opinion.
Second part of my story: They did a deep cleaning on my husband a few months prior to all of this and it costed us $ 900 after it was all said and done! No estimation was provided before the procedure. I inquired about the cost of the cleaning during my recent visit and they wouldn’t discuss the details with me as I was not on his HIPAA. No problem. Well, I must mention he also had his wisdom teeth taken out around that same time as this cleaning and they were willing to discuss all the charges with me then & even better is when I was in on my last visit the hygienist actually showed me his charts/​x-​rays while I was in the room discussing the deep cleaning she wanted to do on me! Talk about confidentiality breach but they wont explain why his cleaning from months ago costed us so much! Funny thing is that my estimate for the deep cleaning this past time was only $ 145 while he paid $ 900!
There appears to be a fair amount of turn over there. I’ve never seen the same doctor/​hygienist which isn’t good practice as much of their work can be subjective. Front desk staff is always changing. They have a nice facility but I really do think they are scammers at pushing for procedures that really aren’t absolutely necessary & they are good at making you believe it MUST be done… So, just be aware. I on the other hand will be taking my business elsewhere.

I was referred to Dr. Lowry by my long time dentist to perform a re-​constructive root canal. Dr. Lowry, his assistant and especially Ray the Office Manager were excellent to work with. The procedure went great, no complaints what so ever. We did have a minor billing issue, which Ray handled professionally and to my satisfaction. Highly suggesting Lakewood Dentists and Orthodontics.

I’ve had three experiences with Lakewood Dentists and Orthodontists — a crown and two cleanings. Dr. Rano was very pleasant to work with as I went back several times to get the crown shaved to a «just right» fit. Both hygienists and all staff I’ve dealt with have been very friendly and professional. They have the latest technological gizmos, and they’re well organized as to online scheduling. The office is comfortable and nicely furnished, and best of all — they’re EXTREMELY reasonably priced. I highly recommend.

This office is very nice and modern and the staff was very friendly, however I feel that they are very good at making you believe you need a lot more done because they have all the latest technology and want to use it on you whether you actually need it or not. For example, I went in for a routine cleaning and possibly a filling and ended up being there 3 hours just for the cleaning and it was $ 400 because they told me I needed lasers on my gums for gingivitis. It is not necessary to have lasers done to get your gums healthy again, better flossing and rinses are sufficient. The reason I questioned what the dental hygienist told me about my gums was because she quoted exactly what she told me to the lady in the room right next to me. $ 400 was even a discounted price for the cleaning because they wanted to give me a deal on something they thought I really needed. Cleanings through my insurance are normally 100% covered and everything else is 90% covered. So the fact that I paid $ 400 for a «discounted» cleaning seems a little over the top. Needless to say, I didn’t have time for them to do my filling and that was going to be another $ 230 for a special filling they said I needed. Yikes
