Lake Placid Summit Hotel and Suites

Luckily I didn’t read the reviews until 2 days into my stay, since if I had, I more than likely wouldn’t have stayed. I came for a house hunting trip for work, so I needed to stay somewhere for an entire week. I received a free upgrade due to my length of stay and being here during the off season. My room was great, with a jetted tub, fridge, microwave and living room area. Everyone was extremely helpful, especially Dean. He provided me with enough tea bags for the whole week and even provided recommendations and pamphlets on where to move and the best places to eat. I’m a fan of great customer service, so due to that aspect alone I’d definitely stay again. I also loved the indoor pool and you can’t beat the location!

Pretty terrible hotel in a great location. The lobby is nice and you think, «oh this isn’t going to be bad!» The rooms are old and dingy, bed sags, the bathroom is like a tiny cave, the carpet and walls are stained, and everything is dusty. Front desk staff is friendly but this place has not been updated since the 13^th Olympiad.

Just checked out today and after reading some reviews I was apprehensive about staying there but we enjoyed our stay. We were there for a wedding and shared a two room suite with my parents. Rooms were spacious and clean, as was bathroom. Bed was comfortable and I appreciated the water pressure and hot water in the shower. No complaints at all. We would definitely stay there again and appreciated the proximity to Main Street, Lake Placid.

The room was clean, the staff was nice but the place is beag down and main areas not clean.
I won’t return!

mmmmmm — I’d love to give this place negative 10 stars if possible. This place is the worst hotel in Lake Placid — STAY AWAY. I’ve been coming up to Lake Placid for many years because I have an athlete friend at the Olympic Training Center. I only came here because my favorite place was booked, my trip was last minute, and they had pretty cheap rates. Well — now I know why.
There was no housekeeping. They never showed up. I was there for 3 days and never had housekeeping even after telling someone at the front desk, Oh — the front desk! So very rude and unprofessional. The girl at the front desk was more concerned with her phone than the people waiting to talk to her.
The «free» WiFi was non existent. I had a very weak signal for about a whole 10 mins I was there. We again told the front desk and their response was to use the WiFi in the hotel lobby. Um — I don’t want to do that and shouldn’t have to because I was told we had WiFi in our room.
My room was ok. It looked like I was in a standard Motel 6 room. The rug was dirty and the bathroom looked like it hadn’t been cleaned.
Don’t stay here ever!!!

For the price we paid, $ 79 for a two queen bed room, the room and hotel was great. We just needed a place to lay our heads to sleep. We were not needing some extravagant place to stay. The beds were clean the heating/​cooling system worked well. They had a pool with a hot tub and they were clean and served their purpose. There was a side room with some couches to hang out on. Would stay here again if passing through.

The bed wasn’t uncomfortable, the room was neat and packed with amenities: a small fridge, teeny tiny microwave, play-​sized coffee maker, desk, wardrobe, and two queen sized (?) beds were all crammed into it.
The hotel needs to be updated pretty badly, all of the furniture is very old, faded, and worn. The bedspreads were this heinous muddy yellow color, and the couches (of which there were an unnecessarily large number) peppered throughout the building had seen much better days. It almost seemed like all the other hotels around had an estate sale and this hotel bought all their tired old crap.
«Breakfast» was paaaaaathetic. A dirty plate with some Quaker cereal bars and some cellophane-​wrapped trans fat-​packed diabetes bombs. We skipped it and opted for a walk around town instead. There was a cute bakery not far down Main street with actual food.
Two and a half stars is what I would give it if I could, but I’ve decided to round down rather than up because while nothing was terrible, for the price we paid– over $ 100– there was no value in this hotel. With so many options, spend $ 25– $ 50 more and stay somewhere nice.
And for the love of all that is edible, can hotels please stop putting a dismal selection of pre-​packaged nonsense on a plate next to some stale coffee and calling it breakfast???

I don’t know if I feel like Summit Hotel deserves 3 stars, but I also kind of feel bad they’re getting such harsh reviews from everyone. My friends and I booked one night this past weekend in the Family Suite that is basically 2 rooms w/​2 double beds in each room. Going in, I knew it wasn’t going to be super luxurious, but I wouldn’t say it was filthy and disgusting. I mean, it’s affordable, they had rooms available for a one night stay, a bunch of us could fit in one room, we basically were only there to sleep and shower, and our room was perfectly clean. The Ritz it is not, but I thought it was perfectly fine for our needs. Sure, the curtains were ripped and mattresses overhung the box spring, etc, but it was clean and cheap and I think that’s all you need in a hotel room. My 2 complaints would be the fact that the windows have blocks on them so you can only open them a couple inches (isn’t that against building codes on lower level floors?) and the front desk woman on Saturday was a real bummer. I think that if you’re looking for a cheap, clean room to rest your head in the brief moments you’re not out having fun in LP, this would be it. Just pack a hammer to bust through windows in case of a fire and maybe some cookies to cheer up the front desk lady.

I came into town to spend a few days relaxing and enjoying the village and some of the attractions such as the Olympic arenas, Mirror Lake and the Oval Rink.
However, my experience with the Summit Hotel, as short as it was, can only be described as appalling. Right away the individual at the front desk was incredibly rude and insulting, but all things considered, this outrageous conduct doesn’t even compare to the shock I was in for when I walked into our room.
This room was FILTHY, it was cramped and just generally disgusting. The walls were paper thin and you could hear people who were talking, not even just next door, but two doors down, anyone walking quietly down the hall sounds like they are in the room with you.
Further, the windows, even though they were so dirty you could barely see out of them, I would imagine it was the parking lot, because you could hear the wheels of the cars rolling through their parking lot as if you were right next to them.
But then there was the «air conditioning,» with apparently only three modes, off, pumping freezing, smelly air and pumping smoldering, smelly heat. On top of this the a/​c unit was so loud trying to sleep was comical.
Worst of all, and I really mean WORST of all… was the bathroom. It was in a general state of squalor with such attractions as mold in the shower, holes and chipping in the walls, water leak marks all over the ceiling and dirty and grit all over the walls. To stress how bad this bathroom was, we got to the room in the early afternoon checked in and immediately left to walk around and explore so we never inspected the room, After walking around for a few hours we came back and went to shower before having dinner and both of us were to disgusted to even step into the shower so we just changed and went to dinner.
Following dinner we went back to the room to go to sleep and we really tried, we wanted to just sleep and spend as little time in the room as possible the next two days, but we just couldn’t do it. After listening to the conversation through the wall from a room down the hall and hearing cars drive we had enough so I went downstairs to the front desk and told them this was absolutely horrendous. we wanted out immediately and to be given a full refund.
Now for the only positive of our trip to the Summit Hotel, the woman at the desk gave me a look like this is a very regular occurrence and told me that it is not a problem and immediately issued the refund.
So here we go… DO NOT STAY AT THIS DUMP. IT IS NOT WORTH THE PRICE, frankly it is not worth a penny. We went to another hotel down the road which was fantastic and worth the price we paid even though it was more expensive.

We stayed recently as part of a hockey tournament. Wow! The Plaza in Manhattan has nothing on this masterpiece of hospitality!
Ill Start with check-​in. My first thought walking into the lobby was that the management purposely wanted to keep the place exactly as it was when the USA beat the Soviets in 1980. You know, for nostalgia sake. Upon closer examination, though, it is clear that the stains on the 35 year old furniture have probably been there since 1980 also. The smell of cigarettes and prison cleaning solvents hangs in the air like a heavy fog. Strangely, the place had a slight bacon-​y smell also. The smell of bacon is normally a plus to me, but when mixed with these other smells, not so much. This hotel would benefit from a consultation with the people at Airwick and Glade.
The people at the counter were not very organized, or, in my opinion, too friendly. I would be willing to bet there are no Hotel Management & Hospitality degrees framed on the office walls of this place. They were also unaware of the operating status of the elevator. While it is an older hotel, and nobody expected too much modern convenience, this place makes no effort at all. I stood in front of the counter waiting to get a replacement room key, while the desk attendant talked on the phone in from of me, for nearly fifteen minutes (no kidding –15 minutes) with somebody about hotel laundry. The desk attendant made an effort to avoid making eye contact with me while she talked about detergent.
We were told that the fireplaces in the public areas did not work, and the furniture looked like it was pilfered from a frat house in Mexico. When the elevator eventually opened on the second floor, there is a small couch that looks like it was taken from the curb on garbage pick-​up day. I wouldn’t sit on the furniture in the public areas from fear of getting some kind of disease on my behind. I also saw gum stuck to a guest room door.
The room had old uncomfortable furniture. The bed was very uncomfortable to me, and housecleaning did not show up until late in the day. The second day they did not show up at all. There was a power strip just hanging out in the open with several things (TV/​Microwave/​a lamp) attached. The small TV had a lousy snowy picture on many channels. The towels were like scratchy dish rages in both size and texture. The carpet felt like it was shampooed, but not vacuumed after. It had the feeling of a stiff, old, used Brillo pad. The smell of cleaning solvents was overwhelming in the room (You do get kind of used to it). Last, but not least, your choice of room temperature is either: (1) scalding heat blowing like you are standing behind an F-​15 at takeoff — and just as loud, or (2) no heat at all.
Overall, I would say this place is like a no-​name hotel with «day rates», but that would be slanderous to no-​name motels. In sum, I would avoid this place in the future at any price. This place is shamefully out of place in an amazing place like Lake Placid.

3 of us stayed here for the World Cup Bobsled weekend and had a 2 bedroom king suite. We originally had the reservation for just Friday and Saturday nights but ended up arriving into town late Thursday so we checked in one night early. No problems there. Everything seemed alright at first — decent price for a suite in town. Started to notice some things the next morning. The wifi is horrible, the carpet didn’t seem like it had been vaccuumed, wine stain on the comforter, stains on the curtains… Had a busy first day and had a lot of fun in town. but when we came back after day 2 after being gone for 8 hours the room had not been touched! Are you kidding me?! The housekeepers gave us a few towels and said they would come back and clean when we left for dinner which they never did.
We went down to complain at the end to make sure they didn’t think they were getting away with charging full price for the service, and were told this «isn’t the crown plaza» so they just blatantly don’t give a shit about things that they can actually control. I get an older hotel and that for the a low price it’s not going to be living in luxury, but the fact that they overlook basic sanitation is something that I can’t. Won’t be staying here again.

We were booking for a weekend that was, honestly, very busy in Lake Placid. This hotel was the only one on
with decent reviews. Those reviews LIED! The only decent part of this hotel was the very helpful woman who answered the phone and totally understood my disgrace with the room and refunded us immediately. We stepped into the room, were grossed out, called a Courtyard and got a room, left our key and RAN! We called later on and got great customer service from the woman who refunded us. The hotel is nothing like the pictures and honestly, there was no way I was staying in that room. The bathroom was dirty, there was a huge crack in the wall, floors were dirty and the furniture was old. There was no way I was going to stay in that room or sleep in that bed.
Overall, not satisfied with the hotel but the staff was helpful. Don’t book here. DONT BOOK HERE!

How do you do zero stars on Unilocal?Wait, how do you do minus 1000 stars on Unilocal?This hotel should be ashamed of their flagrant disregard for their guest’s comfort. When you’re on Main Street in Lake Placid and a stone’s throw from shimmering Mirror Lake and there are never any rooms available in the summer, obviously you can get away with a lot. A spartan room with few amenities maybe, perhaps a shabby lobby. What’s not acceptable is filth at nearly 200 dollars a night. I will save words and just attach photos. From leaking ceiling to repulsive stains on the carpet to water damage on the walls (not to mention a dirty bathtub and sandpaper towels) this place should be shut down. That’s that.

I’m not sure where to begin, so I’ll start with the good things.
Good — The location: It’s right on the corner of Main Street in Lake Placid. Walking most of the strip is easily doable. Also, they have one of the more reasonable pet fees in the area ($ 25 per night).
Bad — Here’s just a brief list:
Spider webs all throughout the corridors.
Stains on the bedroom curtains.
Carpet ripped and pulled in several locations.
The toilet had a large crack and the seat was not fastened completely.
The card swipe on the security door doesn’t work, so the door furthest away from the front desk is left unlocked all the time.
Dirty grounds on the hill side of the complex.
Front desk staff not in uniform and weren’t wearing name tags.
There are more I could list, but that’s enough for now. I hope they fix these issues because the hotel has some great potential.

This «hotel» is awful. The wifi is crap. The bathroom is extremely small. The bathtub feels like it is about to break. The whole «hotel» is dirty. They should be paying me to stay in this place. At least the town has a lot to offer so I don’t need to stay in here for most of the time.

This Hotel should not have the words Suites or Resort in the name. There was construction going on all around. Stepped out of the car into a huge puddle. (I don’t know if you can really help that maybe make sure your parking lot is more level?) The parking lot was packed though I am not sure why. Some of the entrances were closed due to «beautifying». Our Room was very plain… The Beds were quite stiff. We paid extra for the «View» and the view was covered by tall trees on the Hotels property. The bathroom was tiny to say the least, the shower had little pressure and the knob was on backwards Cold to Hot and vice versa. There was no vanity around the sink. The Hot Tub had no Jets, however the pool was nice and heated. The hallways of the Hotel looked like a corridor on a ship very narrow and red stairways. It smelled like smoke throughout the hallways even though its suppose to be smoke free. The people at the front desk were not dressed nicely or uniform. In two words KEEP DRIVING!

I was disappointed in the accommodations. I stayed in a suite for three nights. The rooms are outdated. Room had some damage. Was overpriced. Chose this spot because it had a Jacuzzi but jacuzzi average temp was luke warm. In attempt to raise the heat we called three nights in a row, but complaints fell on deaf ears and later an argumentative front desk. Weakest Continental breakfast ever which included drinks and some grocery store muffins which stayed out for all three days and night. Will not stay here again and recommend you don’t either.
