Residence Inn by Marriott Portland South/Lake Oswego

I stayed here for about a week while traveling for work and my stay was enjoyable. Housekeeping kept everything clean and the overall hotel staff was friendly as well. Usually hotel staff don’t speak to the guests but this hotel staff made it their business to say good morning and ask if there was anything I needed.
I exercised in the gym daily and found the facilities clean and in great condition. The breakfast options could have been better but there were still some good options there especially the option to make my own waffle.
The hotel room was spacious and I loved the fireplace look although I didnt use it. I felt at home here.

Great place to stay in, very Beautiful. Hotel has gym and pool, and they served pretty decent breakfast. The room has all the equipment you need. But the reason why I gave it a 3 star is because I can hear my neighbor upstairs making baby at 4 in the morning, personally I don’t care what they are doing but the fact that I have to listen through the whole thing prevent me, from getting my sleep, because the amount of noise. But I was nice enough to let them finish their business without calling the front desk or knock on their door. I hope they have a good experience here in this hotel.

Came here on business, bringing my spouse to spend some free time while I was at work. Great location, near good restaurants and shopping. Quick jaunt to my business location. Facility was clean, well maintained and comfortable, with the convenience of breakfast and light dinner. What really set this hotel apart was the staff. The night desk clerk, who was on duty ¹¹⁄₂₃ and 11/​24, was great! She went out of her way to be kind to my spouse, arranging warm cookies and bringing a glass of wine out ahead of evening service. I really appreciated the kindness!

I was in Tigard on a business trip for 10 days and the Residence Inn here in Lake Oswego has been office and home. My coworkers and I have been treated to exceptional service, clean rooms, and good breakfasts. They have accommodated us for meeting space at night and were genuinely friendly. They even did the dishes!
I hope Marriott appreciates the staff here and treats them right, because their hard work is why I enjoyed my stay so far away from my family for 10 days. Thank you So much!

We stayed here twice, and both times had a pretty enjoyable stay.
We were looking for a place outside of the city of Portland, (because it seemed as if almost every hotel was booked solid) and knowing nothing of the area, just decided to make a reservation from the pictures on their website… while we were on the way there!
What was attractive to us was the layout of the room… A full kitchen, a bedroom both downstairs and upstairs, and each had it’s own bathroom. My teen age daughter was sold.
We thought the breakfast offered was not outstanding, but more than adequate… What we ended up doing, since we had our own fridge, was to stock up on soy milk and granola and other creature comforts of home at the Trader Joe’s which was just down the street… then we supplemented that with the extras they had at their breakfast offerings.
The staff we encountered were FABULOUS. Really welcoming and always helpful.
The gym, while not super fancy, is open 24 hours, so I could do my crazy treadmill-​at-​midnight routine, and not feel like I was bothering anyone.
The only negative was a strange one… there was a woman staying in the next room over who had some rather loud birds (Parrots? Macaws?)The first time we stayed we found it to be just a funny fluke, but when we returned two months later (which attests to how much we liked it here) she was still there!
Overall, I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this hotel for those looking for something not fancy, but very functional, well run, and fairly priced.

After having a horrible experience with another Portland Hotel this was a refreshingly wonderful experience. The staff was very pleasant and enjoyable. Breakfast was fabulous. Great stay… highly recommend

I’ve stayed here a couple times and my first time here I thought the customer service was pretty darn good but this time I’m like are you freakin kidding me?! Straight up get out of my face I can’t believe how AWESOME IT IS!!! The people at the desk are super nice, everything is super flexible, we totally brought our dog and while we had to put down a just in case deposit, they gave us a doggy gift bag and told us the best place for our dog to hunker down and get to work. They have fire places and logs you can buy for a romantic evening and there are a bunch of cool restaurants not too far away. The room we stayed in had two beds one with doors that tucked away and an upstairs with the other bed. It’s nice so that we can put the kids in one room and be able to stay up super late (9 pm!) without disturbing them. I’m sure I’ll be back soon!

So impressed with the entire staff at this hotel! Everyone was super friendly and attentive! My daughter’s softball team checked in and was greeted with a special sign that the staff had signed wishing them good luck in their upcoming tournament. The breakfasts and evening meals were great and the rooms and grounds were awesome! We would definitely stay here again!

Stayed at the hotel for a soccer tournament. I had a double room which was nice but the floors was really squeaky. The kitchen and living space was great. The front desk was really great and very patient with all the boys and parents.
I would stay there again with my family.

I stayed here for a month which was the longest I’ve ever been in a hotel. I’ve never «lived» anywhere that wasn’t my home, so being in a hotel for a few weeks was rough and unpleasant. There’s nothing any hotel could change to make it more comfortable, it’s just not that fun. As far as being in an hotel for an extended period of time, I’d say that the Residence Inn was probably as close to ideal as it could get.
The room which was a suite was really spacious, in fact it was larger than my first studio apartment. The only qualms I had about it was that it was on the bottom floor and the walls are really thin and I felt like I didn’t have that much privacy. My room was right across from a courtyard so a lot of people would be smoking near my room and as a non-​smoker it got kind of annoying. Also, housekeeping would always park their cart next to my sliding door and it was really loud and blocked the greatest source of natural light. I usually kept my curtains closed because I didn’t want people looking into room as they passed by. I was also next to a family with two small children for my entire duration and they were EXTREMELY loud (again, not the hotel’s fault) and there wasn’t much I could do. I could hear everything from the room on top of me and on weekends it was almost unbearable. I’m only throwing that in there because I think it’s worth requesting a room on an upper level to try and reduce the noise. I did have the chance to change rooms but I was too lazy to move all of my things, so that’s on me.
The hotel has a pretty good breakfast everyday, and on mon-​wed they have dinner in the lobby. The dinners aren’t AMAZING but sometimes theyre really good but the best part is there is complimentary beer and wine, and trust me, if you lived in a hotel for as long as I did YOURE GONNA WANT IT.
The staff is extremely friendly! I was really homesick during my stay there so I would sometimes start conversations with whoever was working at the front desk and it made me feel better. Alex is amazing, she made me feel really comfortable in a place that wasn’t my home by asking how I was, and asking how my cat was doing. Super sweet girl and really great with people!
Hopefully I don’t have to be in a hotel again for a really long time but when I do I hope I have as a positive experience like I did here :)

We had a great stay here for the past few days and are fans of the Residence Inn. This one has beautiful landscaping and a nice layout. The standard room includes a living area, kitchen, full bathroom, and bedroom area. Parking, breakfast, and WiFi are free. The breakfast has a good selection of waffles, oatmeal, granola, fruit, eggs, biscuits, potatoes, and bagels. We had a top floor and didn’t hear any noise from our neighbors. 24 hr gym is available, however the hot tub is not accessible until May. Nice little stay away from home.

Stayed 4 nights here over the weekend and I am glad I stayed here. The rooms are extreamly nice and you’ll always come back to a clear place and beds made. The breakfast in the morning is a great way to start the day!

I love this hotel. I traveled to Portland OR for 2 years every other week. I ended up here when I helped support a hospital computer system near there. After that visit, I stayed here for the rest of my time in Portland even though it meant driving 30 minutes to the office on the freeway.
The staff are wonderful. Since I came every other week, they stored my bag for me. When I would check in, I was always in the same room, which I preferred, and my bag was waiting in my room.
The hotel is in a pretty setting. The rooms are average for Residence Inn. Everything you could want in shopping for food is within walking distance. Trader Joe’s market is across the street.
I highly recommend this hotel.

The only mediocre thing here is the breakfast. Everything else is wonderful or awful.
Wonderful:
Everyone that works there. Friendly, eager to help and quick, this is the staff of a much more expensive place (with one exception).
Location. Our room had the pool on one side and a big grass field on the other. It was lovely and quiet except for the kids in the pool which is good noise. We could walk to Trader Joes and get on I5 in seconds.
The gym was actually decent and open 24 hours.
Comfy beds.
Awful:
The toilet backed up twice. The second time my 15 YO daughter was alone in the unit. When she called the front desk they chastised her for not turning off the water. Sure guys, she will hug the overflowing toilet to turn off the water because you don’t maintain your plumbing. Once they came and snaked out the sewer there was no more trouble. Unless you count the smelly carpet that they wouldn’t clean.
Speaking of plumbing the fixtures were all very cheap. The tubs were steel rather than cast iron so the move under your feet. The dishwasher didn’t work very well and the electric range was junk.

As mentioned in my previous review of this property, I would –and did– stay here again…
For this second review, I will bump up my rating from three to four stars. As the Unilocal Star Rating box says, «Yay! I’m a fan».
This Residence Inn by Marriott provided the same level of quality and service I experienced during my previous stay in March of this year. It may not be a «4-​Star Hotel» per se, but it does deserve a 4-​Star Unilocal rating in my book.
Earlier this month (Aug. 2011), I stayed at the Courtyard Marriott a bit north of this Residence Inn. Although the condition of the room was much nicer at the Courtyard Marriott, my overall experience at this Residence Inn far exceeded my stay at the Courtyard. For my needs, the quieter location, the full kitchen and the complimentary breakfast were all that I could ask for.
I will recommend this Residence Inn to my family and friends when/​if they need a place to stay in this part of the Greater Portland area.

I stayed here with my family and dog for a mini summer vacation two weeks ago in Oregon at the Residence and I have to say I was very pleased. We stayed in a room off the ground floor; it was very spacious for 5 adults and a dog.
There was a loft with a bathroom and king sized bed, a bathroom, a kitchen, fireplace, murphy bed that pulls out from the wall and a fold out love seat bed in the lower part of the room. It literally felt I was living in my own apartment away from home. What I thought was amazing was the complimentary breakfast which included waffles, rice, scrambled eggs, an assortment of breakfast meats, biscuits, bagels, fruit, milk, soy milk, yogurt, juices, water… SIGH! It was heaven. What I also liked was on certain days of the week there would be «snacks» out in the afternoon along with complimentary beer & wine. They even had dog treats at the front for the taking for the furry pals. What a nice little touch.
My family and I enjoyed our stay here and I hope that this location keeps up the wonderful service. Thank you Residence Inn for making our long drive to Oregon that much more worthwhile. Until next time, quack quack. (That’s for the duck lovers out there.)

I have stayed at this hotel semi-​regularly over the past 5 years. It used to be very quiet.
But recently, it has become terrible for getting some sleep. I stayed at bottom floor rooms, and the sounds from the room above was waking me up at all hours of the night. I stayed on the botom floor of two different units, and both of the units had poor sound insulation.
Someone getting up to go to the bathroom upstairs is really loud. The floor creaks loudly, so anyone walking around will be heard. The flushing of the toilet and the draining of the sink is louder than the really old fridge. If people upstairs decide to take a shower, forget about it.
I can put up with the algae growing in the jacuzzi, poor internet connection, dirty pool, dirty picnic areas, stained and dirty carpets in the rooms, poor service at the front desk, bathtubs that do not drain, ripped furniture cloth, having to go to the front desk to get soap and shampoo… but I have to be able to get some sleep.

Wow, what’s happened to Marriott… I walked out of the hotel today, only about halfway through my planned stay. I’d stayed here once before and had no issues, but this time it was pretty bad. I could normally tolerate things like the disgusting jacuzzi (pic attached) directly outside my door, but when Godzilla and family moved in above me and stomped around all night, it was time to leave. Why don’t hotels soundproof? I politely asked to switch rooms, but they were full apparently.
At my early checkout, the woman at the front desk charged me for a half day, too. I also noticed I was charged $ 149/​night when my confirmed res. says $ 119/​night. Thanks Marriott. You’ll be hearing from my credit card company.
