Joan S.

Business Owner

: Joan Sheridan is a weaver, knitter, spinner, fiber explorer and owner of Heritage Spinning and Weaving since 2000. Trained as an educator and curriculum developer by the US Army, she is a natural teacher. Joan volunteers in the textile conservation department at The Henry Ford Museum. She has taught and presented at TNNA, MFF, CNCH, NML&WF, Midwest Fiber & Folk, on-​tour in Norway, SOAR and at guilds and shops. She has more than 50 published knitting patterns and has had articles in Alpaca, Handwoven, Wild Fibers, and Spin-​Off magazines.

A lovely yarn shop located in cute downtown Lake Orion. They have a large selection of yarns as well as weaving materials. They sell Addi needles as well.

Today I went up to Lake Orion to visit a friend. I’ve never been there before and I was surprised at the cute «downtown» of Lake Orion. It was raining out and there wasn’t much to do so we wandered into the shoppes. She suggested we go to Heritage Spinning and Weaving.
This place is huge. It’s a strange setup with several room but there are about 7 rooms filled to the brim with yarn and and related supplies. The yarn seams to be organized by material and type of yarn. There is a section for needles and crochet hooks. There is also spinning and weaving and everything you need to go along with that.
The woman who worked there was really nice and she explained a lot of different stuff to us. We eventually got on the topic of farms and related topics. She was a font of information in a variety of topics. She explained that many people who work at HS&W are volunteers which helps the store stay open during a slow economy.
The store was huge. The prices seemed comparable to other yarn stores. There are all types from inexpensive to very fancy yarns. I would recommend any knitter, or fabric enthusiast visit this place if you’re in the area.
