After careful diagnosis I put specific focus on problem solving, primarily with therapy, directed at ameliorating debilitating symptoms on a timely basis. Longer term therapy is directed at repairing personality vulnerabilities to prevent recurrence of disability. When psychotropic drugs can help I prescribe and carefully monitor them. My patients choose: short or longer term therapy.
