When Buy N Bulk was open, I remember the owner was very nice and especially helpful not just to me but to other customers as well.
My first visit to Buy N Bulk was from a Groupon. I bought a ton of things (5 types of yummy granola, 6 different types of nuts, a few different powdered soups, a few different a types of spices, 5 different seasoned rice meal packets (they all came with directions that were typed and VERY USEFUL). My basket was full and I left amazed at how much food I got with $ 10 (the Groupon was worth $ 20)
Although I do understand why some of the reviews are negative (only because of the closing of the store and management not informing customers of their departure because it does not take too much effort informing customers of the store closing), …I still liked the place. ;)
TO THE OWNERS:
A good business practice is to keep customers in the loop and informed so that there loyal customers would not be blindsided with an empty and deserted store. A simple letter or notice on the doors or window stating, «To our loyal patrons, we have unfortunately closed due to ««««««

If you call the store number (as of today), there is a message of a new facility in FV and an address).

I drove there yesterday and the store is vacant. Not sure when it closed.

Like others have said… amazing variety of things and pay-​for-​how-​much-​you need… all good. The place is like the bin sections you see in stores like Sprouts.
I weighed everything and priced it before checking out. Register only shows rolling total, so it was hard to verify each item. Receipt didn’t help much as everything was priced per ounces when most things I’d purchased were priced per pound. A few items exceeded what I thought the total should be — one was a mis-​ring (who knows, might have been my handwriting) but another was pretty far off from my estimate — don’t know what happened there.
All-​in-​all, an interesting experience and opportunity to try some new things — cheddar cheese powder for your popcorn anyone?

Here is an update — we tried for the third time to get product from the store to use our Groupon and we found out when we arrived at the store that they are now closed. They have a sign on the door that they will be opening a new location in Fountain Valley in early 2014. Good luck with that one — fail at one location and then advertise that you have a new location coming. That does not work for me…
I will keep this review short but not so sweet — just about like my time in this store. This week we tried for the second time to use our $ 20 Groupon at this store but failed. Hard to believe that in the week before Christmas that the store does not have a single walnut, pecan, or macadamia nut in the store.
Furthermore, I tried calling them this morning (Saturday) at 9:40 am and again this evening at 6:30 pm – no answer either time. what is going on with this business?
It is 12:22 pm on Sunday — called again and again no answer. Is this place closed down?

I regretted making the drive out here. A lot of the bins were empty, and there was no one in the store. I guess all the employees were in the back somewhere. We never saw them. The fact that so many bins were empty and no one seemed to be minding the shop made me wonder how fresh the rest of the items were. They also didn’t have many of the things I regularly buy in bulk at Mother’s (or maybe they did, and those bins were just empty too?). I won’t bother coming back.

Came here a few times, each with a Groupon (spend $ 10 for $ 20 worth of product). The $ 20 goes such a long way! Great stop for bulk spices (you can even bring in your own tins/​jars and they will weight how much they are so you can just fill them up directly). Only place I have seen powdered milk in non-​fat and whole. They have candy, nuts, dried fruit, protein drink mixes, flavored gelatin, and all kinds of other products. They even have a fro-​yo section if you’re craving something cold on the spot. Love this store!

My first visit here was with a Groupon and I’ve been hooked ever since. I live in San Clemente so I shop when I’m in the area. Among my favorites are the rice blends and protein powders. I can buy as much or as little as I need and that’s especially helpful when buying spices.
The store has always been clean when I visit. The space was a video store years ago and the windows were permanently covered then. It’s now impossible to restore them to being perfectly clear and that’s unfortunate because they give the appearance of needing to be cleaned. Too bad the building owner won’t replace them.
There are many products to check out so be sure you have enough time! The clerks are very helpful and eager to answer any questions I have.

Love this store! They have a great variety of products. They have a great gluten-​free selection: gf pasta, gf flours (pre-​made mix, almond, rice, brown rice, quinoa, etc), gf starches (potato, tapioca), xanthan gum. And their prices are the best I’ve found for an actual store. I love their bulk spices, too. They also have ClearJel (modified food starch used in canning) and it is dramatically cheaper than anywhere else I’ve found it. They are really nice in the store. They take suggestions on what else they can carry, too!

Came here yesterday for the first time, reasonable prices, good service. Will definitely be back again.

this place is awesome! they have so many selection of all different kind of things, from candies, spices, cereals, salts, seasonings, baking chocolates, and even gelatin. all are priced reasonably and some of them are even cheaper than i expect. definitely a good place to stop by whenever i need some new seasoning for my kitchen.
if you come here to buy tea leaves, whatsoever, you may be a bit disappointed as the only thing they sell here is tea bags. you can buy tea bags from the supermarket so dont bother coming if thats what you wanna get. their reason is because Starbucks across the street dont allow them to sell any kind of tea leaves or coffee, which it totally understand able and make sense.
dont forget to get yogen fruz froyo on your way out. the flavors are that many, maybe only 6−8flavors including the basic chocolate and vanilla. but the yogurt taste pretty solid, creamy, and priced reasonably at 39cent/​oz. i like the caramel apple and banana split.

p. s. i think they have some groupon deal $ 10 for $ 20. so if you are planning to buy a lot, this might be something worth looking into. i know i will buy it and use it for my next visit.

I was a kid in the bulk food store. I wanted everything. They even have yogurt.

Holy… wow… just wow.
So impressed with what they have to offer and how they source their inventories. I was informed they get everything from within the US which is quite a feat considering we have the giant China providing almost everything.
Other than their numerous selection, their prices just smash other bulk supply markets if you compare unit price of everything.
They offer everything from grains to sprinkles to candy to snacks like their veggie garden snacks. Also there’s a little section that offers frozen yogurt. I just wish this was closer to my area. I would probably visit quite often.

With that said. they have a TON of things here, and used the Groupon. I thought I was at $ 20 but I was only at $ 7.50. So 3 more trips to get up there and I got a lot of things.
I was a little sketchy about the mixes, but the Rice ones were good, the cookies were very good, and the brownies… sucked.
You can tell that some things are a little lower quality than the original, like the M&Ms, but a great value

I expected a lot more. We initially called to see if they were open, and noone answered after trying to call multiple times. Figuring maybe they were just really busy, we stopped over anyway. There were open, but there was noone in the store.
Once in the store, I will say that the staff was very helpful, so that was not the issue. (Although we were only one 3 people in the store at the time)
The issue is, the items were just not great quality. Chocolates were cheap quality, pastas were cheap quality, nuts were cheap quality, etc.
I had a Living Social deal that I used, which made for not a complete loss, but even at 50% off, it felt like I was being ripped off.

Used a groupon, and couldn’t be happier. Well… I actually would have been happier if the salted in the shell peanuts weren’t stale. Everything else was great, and a good deal. Lots of beans, flavored and not, flours, bread and soup mixes, nacho cheese powder?, candy, baking chocolates etc. The wasabi soy nuts were tasty, and the veggie chips really good. It’s a fun place to shop with a varied and interesting selection. They even have a pasta section. The yogurt is really good too.

I just used a Groupon for this store. It’s a new store that just opened about four months ago. So I thought why not?
I’m glad that I did! They have a little bit of everything here. From soup mixes to pasta to sprinkles to gluten free flour. They carry a lot of products that Sprouts doesn’t have. The guy there was very nice and helpful, he even offered samples when you walked in.
This is a great place to come if you’re trying a new recipe and just need a little bit of something, if you want to get a pound of sugar, or even if you’re looking for something for your sweet tooth.

This place was underwhelming. They had some candy but nothing spectacular. Lots of soup mixes and such, which I wasn’t a fan of. They also didn’t have much in terms of dried fruit.

I got a coupon in the mail for this new place owned by a man and his son in Lake Forest. You name it, this place has got it as far as stuff being sold by the pound, like the store’s name says, from spice to nuts. It is pretty overwhelming. There is a lot to see here.
They have all kinds of bins of goods in the store like candy, pretzels, spices, pasta, dry salad dressings, dry soups, nuts, baking chocolates, etc., that are priced per pound. I was amazed at what they sell by the pound at this place. You can even buy individual packages of sugar, artificial sweeteners, and tea bags. Being the candy fiend, I am, I was pretty excited by all the sweets. They have all kinds of candy here like individually wrapped hard candies, different types of chocolate candies, gummy candy, candy sticks, and so on and so on.
If the candies are the same price per pound, you can mix them in one bag.
I purchased some mustard pretzels that I am addicted to.
Bought a small quantity and really enjoyed them, so will definitely be back for more. We also bought some dry Ranch salad dressing.
All the dips, soup mixes and dressings have individual recipes that you can take home. There are pre-​packaged bags of candies, cracker mixes etc., if you prefer to purchase that way. They keep the bins on the lower side of full to keep all the items as fresh as possible in the store.
At the far end of the store, there is Yogen Fruz, which is a self serve frozen yogurt area with areas with fruit and toppings and chocolate sauces.
This is also pay by the pound.
I like the concept of this store. You can try a lot of new products without having to commit to a large purchase of something, if you just want to check it out. All staff are super friendly and very helpful. Definitely a cool new addition to Lake Forest.
