Java Jazz Shave Ice

It’s kind of a hot mess in here.
The shave ice is very ‘fine’ like another reviewer mentions. I was intrigued by it. The price is reasonable if you go with just one flavor of syrup. But what’s the fun in that?
I wouldn’t return. It lacks a bit of the Island Charm that goes along with having Shave Ice in Hawaii. Not enough flavor choices.

The lady attending us was really sweet! We ordered the mango and li hing mui shaved ice. Super sweet with ice cream at the bottom and condensed milk at the top. It was about $ 8 with the ice cream. Since I’m not a huge sweet person, it’s rare for me to get something like this. I’d come back here again before I leave back to the mainland.

Wow! Hands down the best shaved ice in Lahaina! The lady helping us was incredible friendly and funny as well. They have about a good 20 flavors from wedding cake to watermelon. I highly recommend you get a scope of the ice cream that they put in the bottom of the bowl, it really makes it. They also put this condensed cream on top and its seriously takes a shaved ice to another level with it… get it! Overall great experience, very clean inside and friendly staff. A must check out.

For a shave ice place, they have a ton of retail stuff. Weird.
BUT, this was possibly the best ‘shave’ I’ve ever had for a shave ice. It was so fine, it was practically fine snow. OMG
However, there was too little flavor juice. Way too little. Horribly too little.
Prices — fair, $ 3 and change for a small, large $ 5.50 (or close)
And upon looking over other photos on Unilocal,my ice girl must have been new, b/​c I was definitely shorted.
+ When checking in, the Unilocal deal was a free smoothie if you bought a $ 11 tumbler. Not really worth it in my opinion. $ 11? For a tumbler, to get a free smoothie? Totally not worth it.
Summary: Great shave, not lots of flavor, it’s that simple. Not planning to go back if/​when I find anyplace else.

Shaved ice was to die for!!! So good! But the woman working in this location was the most unfriendly person we have come in contact with on the islands. We will get more shaved ice, but not at this location. We sat outside eating, watched her walk away, watched customers come and go, because nobody is here!!! Bet the owners would not like that!

We walked in, party of 4 and the girl behind the counter wouldn’t acknowledge us. 5 minutes of saying we’re ready and nothing, non one else in the store. Went next door and told them about it and asked if they were closing and they didn’t care. I remember coming the first week they opened. NEVER AGAIN. Stay far far away and go ANYWHERE else.

First impression walking in: «am I in the right store that sells shave ice? » There’s random nick nack items on the wall and on the shelving for sale. Ugly items not worth selling. Feels like a goodwill store. Then I notice a small sign of shave ice. Tacky signage with little selection of flavors. Don’t expect to see condense milk or red bean or ice cream. They do sell ice cream actually for $ 2 but she says they are out but should get some tomorrow. I guess being fully stocked with variety of options is not important to them as can be seen with flavor options. I mean she could of easily bought Icecream next door at times grocery for stock for the day. Why wait for tomorrow. Anyway… She had an interesting way of preparing shave ice. Instead of just packing it as it fills up with shaven ice, she fills them half way, hand packs them tight. Grabs a bowl that’s been patted down as well and repacks it over the half filled container. I guess it gives the dome look. But here’s the downside, it takes away the fluffy softness of shave ice. As I was eating the bottom of my shave ice I came across ice blocks from all the tight packing. Ugh… Just threw the rest away. Also they don’t serve those straws with spoon tip. You have to get each a plastic spoon and a straw. Just awkward handling two while you are eating and walking around. They need to reevaluate their branding and have a staff that seems to enjoy their job.

Great service, very friendly and welcoming. Charming shop with fun knick knacks. Size of shave ice was very impressive, but flavors could use a bit of perfecting. I got lemon lime which was a bit too tart and tigers blood which was very sweet. Overall sweet atmosphere but keep working on perfecting those flavors.

Great shaved ice!!! Awesome service! The workers were very friendly and helpful. Will most definitely come back for more. Thanks Java Jazz for satisfying my shaved ice craving.

Quaint little place with delicious shaved ice to cool you down on a hot summer day that either comes by itself or with a little scoop of ice cream at the bottom. It’s also a little gift store if you are looking for unique souvenirs to bring home.

Great shave ice experience. The girl helping us was fantastic and showed us how the machine makes it. She also gave us some wonderful flavor combination recommendations. I would definitely recommend giving them a try.

We saw the huge «Shaved Ice» sign out front and since it was Hawaii we had high expectations for this place. The shop doesn’t even look like it has shaved ice but the lady working there waved us in as we spoke about it.
I ate the shaved ice, but I probably won’t return for another one if I’m in the area again. When she gave us the shaved ice there was no color so we thought it was a bunch of ice. I ordered cherry flavor, and the flavor tasted a little like medicine.

Seriously, the worst service I’ve ever encountered.ANYWHERE. I’m in customer service and I understand that people have bad days but this was just inexcusable and rude…
Family and I went here out of mere convenience because it’s right next to our resort…
The woman who helped us was actually the person we walked past, who was smoking, didn’t wash her hands when she finally walked in to ‘help us’. We looked at the menu and she finally made us aware she was the one who would be helping us after she said, «what are you going to get!?». Uh, excuse me?
Anyways, we said it would be all four of us then we said two regular and two kid sized and proceeded to ask about the flavors BUT, rudely stopped by her saying she’ll grab the questions after she shaves the ice. Haha ok … So, after about at least 10 minutes, just to shave ice and cough all over it, she demands what flavors we want. I tell her the kids flavors and then say the regular flavors. Once again, I’m interrupted and lamely she states, «I made four kids sized that’s why I asked you in the beginning”(but, in the beginning I said two reg and two kid?) Such sass and attitude! I tell her the third flavor and decide against getting mine. She stares at me and gets real upset and stomps her feet to the cash register since I didn’t want the fourth one. Oh well, grow up and stop having an attitude and maybe you’ll be a happier worker :)

Shaved ice was ok — got mango and coconut. But giving this two stars… bit of a strange store — bakery meets boutique meets shaved ice. Friendly staff.

Had a great experience getting shaved ice, it was yummy and staff are really nice. Cute place to take a break for coffee or shaved ice.

It’s a little difficult for me to get excited about shave ice because I come from the land of frozen custard but it was tasty. It’s refreshing and light and even the kiddie size is huge. I tried mango and red raspberry with ice cream at the bottom.

Dinner. It was OK. Sort of a jack of all trades, expert at nothing for the food experience. Had the spaghetti and meatballs — it was his OK. Others had club sandwich — it was big, but just OK. the fish and chips were surprisingly excellent, not greasy at all! Also, others had the tacos and they were good. there was live music which gave it a fun cool atmosphere. Overall a nice place to eat.

After a day in the sun, kids beg to go to this place for shaved ice. They say it’s the best shaved ice.

The shaved ice was fine. But it’s just ice and cheep sugar syrup and a spoonful of cheep vanilla ice cream. Definitely overpriced! $ 7 for 3 flavor rainbow with ice cream. Disappointed. Every flavor addition was an extra cost. And the server was pushy on upgrading.
And don’t be fooled by the «check in»
Deal to get 10%!!! It requires a $ 50 min purchase! It’s expensive but you would have to buy a lot of shaved ice to take advantage of that. Feeling duped for having to check in to a business I will not return to.
On the plus side, good selection of flavors. The «wedding cake» flavor was the hit.

This is the real deal people! I’ve had many shave ice in the past, including on the Oahu North Shore. The shave ice here is awesome!!! Root beer with ice cream. Perfect 10!!! The ice was lighter than snow and had a great consistency.
