sketchy. outdated equipment. borderline un-​sanitary. they charge astronomical prices for contact lens fittings and fit you in «custom contacts» that are unavailable online and are very $$$. irene is pushy, gives little information, and has a used car salesman tatic with her sales approach. do not go here as you will end up going to another more legit office. will be reporting them to optometry board and health department. stay away. i will also be reporting them to VSP as I have been scammed along with many others according to reviews below.

I found this place through medical insurance. All i got was a discount. It was still very expensive. Walmart charges half of what they charged me with the discount of the insurance. The assistant was very persuasive on how much better they are than walmart optometrists and that i would get better care here. I eventually gave in and agreed to get service from Dr. Bold. I was very surprised because what they told me was false. Walmart optometrist did a much better job in my opinion. I always go for contacts and walmart optometrists is way better and cheaper. I also buy my glasses online, whenever i asked for a copy of my prescription from walmart they would print it right away for me. When i came in to Dr Bolds office and paid SO MUCH i asked for my prescription so i could buy glasses online. The lady at the desk said i can get them when my contacts come in. That did not make sense to me at all. I already paid so much for the contact prescription and also ordered contacts from them. I wanted to save money by getting glasses online but she wouldn’t give me my eye glass prescription. I was very frazzled as to why she couldn’t give it to me at that very moment. Days later i came to pick up my contacts and i asked for my prescription again. The assistant (some guy) said that he couldn’t give it at the moment. Whats up with that?

Dr Bold is a fantastic optometrist! He owns his practice and isn’t part of a large mega corporation, you get that personalized service that you wouldn’t receive at some of those other places like Costco.
He asks tons of questions to be sure he can properly diagnose you and doesn’t treat you like a number. This is definitely a huge plus in this day and age.
Contacts might be a little more expensive than at Costco but who could honestly beat Costco and Walmart. At least with Dr. Bold he gets to know you and isn’t rushing you out for the next patient.

If your here… your in a good spot… RUN FOREST RUN… I found this Optician via my provider and forgot to research the reviews… BIG MISTAKE.
I have had prescription lenses since the mid 1970’s and never have I had the staff at an eye doctor’s office REFUSE to give me my prescription and YELL at me when giving it… do yourself a favor… read the reviews… there are POOR RATINGS and REVIEWS for a reason.
The assistant YELLED at me when I wanted my prescription. I GOT A REFUND from the eye doctor and the insurance carrier.
Dr. Bold WILL GIVE YOU A REFUND… he has a lot at stake: his license with the CALIFORNIA BOARD OF OPTOMETRY, his reputation with the landlord and the reputation with the insurance carriers.

Dr. Bold is a great eye doctor! Probably the best I’ve ever been to. Takes his time, gets it right. Doesn’t get annoyed when it takes you some time to figure out which lens you see better out of. Didn’t get frustrated or leave me unattended when I took over 1 hr to take out my trial contact lens out of my eyeball during a fitting.
The only thing I don’t like is the sales-​y girl at the front desk. She’s nice and everything, don’t get me wrong! But sometimes I feel like she borders on dis-​honesty to make a frame/​lens/​contact sale. I know, I know that’s just business. But she says things like: you really need this or that or you’re going to regret it. Just remember its a pitch and you can decide for yourself what you need. It won’t harm your health if you don’t purchase an upgrade :)

Seriously overpriced!!! *****Don’t sign anything! !!! No refunds to exception! !!! (they put this on paper for a reason!!!) I was told I have ²⁰⁄₂₀ vision but since I work on a computer all day I should consider reading glasses, Since my old optometrist had prescribed that before, I didn’t hesitate to order them. Then was told I should also get farside glasses to relieve the strain on my day to day activities??? although I questioned his request I figured if it would help me with my headaches I’m in. Dealt with Irene HORRIBLE person!!! Shes pushy and very unprofessional anything she can do to up sale you on everything you may or may not need! There’s a BIG reason why there reviews are usually a one star! Got non brand name glasses for a high price!!! Take your prescription and RUN ELSEWHERE*****or prepair yourself in paying about $ 500 with Insurance and discounts. ******IRENE IS THE WORST!*****

I’m blown away by the bad reviews here. You don’t go buy a Ferrari then say it’s horrible because it’s expensive. As with anything in life, you get what you pay for.
With that said, here is what you pay for. A team of dedicated professionals that will go above and beyond what you will find anywhere else. Dr. Bold is the best eye doctor I’ve ever encountered in 25 years of wearing glasses. I’ve even TESTED this and gone to a local lens crafters and then to Costco to compare what you get with Dr. Bold vs. the «generic» places.
The bottom line is this, NOBODY else I’ve seen seems to be able to get me to see as well. That’s it. PERIOD. Why do you wear glasses? I wear them to see and Dr. Bold gives me a gift of better than perfect vision.
An example of the level of service that I just received. I went in for a checkup as I knew I needed an updated prescription. Dr. Bold did his usual routine and had be reading the bottom line perfectly with both eyes. However, upon putting on the «demo glasses» i was a little bit disoriented. It seemed kind of unnatural. So he made a quick adjustment and at the time it seemed much better and I could still see very well. Unfortunately after receiving my new glasses and wearing them for a few days there was an issue. One of my eyes could see perfectly and the other was struggling and it was causing a headache. Irene and Dr. Bold IMMEDIATELY took care of me, retested and found the issue.
The new glasses are PERFECT. I can see more clearly than any of my friends (it’s a dumb game I play, «hey can you read that»).
To address the price issue again, yep, it’s expensive. Look up ZEISS OPTICS. They aren’t cheap and the level of service is the best in the business. Dr. Bold IS the «FERRARI» of eye doctors.

Got my eye balls checked and ended up spending more money then I wanted too! They told me you need this and you need to add that and so on and so fourth! I could of bought lots of Christmas presents with that money!!! If you don’t have $ 500 – 600 dollars to spend then this is not the place for you!!! When I got my total I wanted to kicked myself!!!

Since the review, I received a call from Irene, the office manager. She must have called like within two hours of the review. She was very apologetic about my experience, and asked what they can do to mediate the situation. She offered to change my lenses to regular distant lenses and give me some samples of contact lenses. She also printed me a new receipt, gave me the cleaning cloth, changed my lenses with free anti-​reflection and some sample contact lenses.

Way too expensive. …sells his eye drops for $ 29.99…on line they sell for $ 11−15…way too high of a mark up.

Do Bold’s office is dirty, the carpet is full of stains, yuck, and the staff pressure you so much and are rude. Do not go here. Dr. Bold is great, but he needs to get rid of the whole staff. We will NEVER go back there, way too expensive and such rude staff. Stay Away! A fight broke out with a customer when we were there, it was very uncomfortable!

I came here a year ago and I would never go back again. It is extremely expensive, and I was overcharged for hundreds of dollars.

Not too many good things to say. My sister used to go to Dr. Bold and I have to say the last time we took a trip down there she was very dissatisfied with the prices and how much they charged. Not to mention the woman who works there In the La Palma office. I guess its to leur male patients in by the unprofessional way they dress. It is somewhat appalling to see that. I’d hate to see the Newport Beach office.

I came here a few years back and I would not recommend it unless you have money to burn. The prices are astronomical and the don’t disclose this until they say they submitted the order. Must be paying for the service. Lol. Since then I’ve been going else where and it’s less expensive now without insurance and I get straight forward answers without the up sell. Lesson learned.

I agree that Dr Bold is very nice and seems to recommend the best options for you. However, they do seem to overcharge. I have insurance and still they quoted me about $ 200 for glasses with anti-​reflective coating (which they were really pushing on me). I said I’d have to think about it and left with a written prescription. I took the prescription to Lenscrafters where I purchased my glasses with the anti-​reflective coating for $ 70 out of pocket!

It’s business ethics like these that make me wish negative stars were possible. Maybe it was my fault. Maybe it was as Dr. Bold said when I confronted him — «buyer beware». I was overcharged (and I mean hundreds extra) for my contacts and glasses. I talked to my cousin afterwards, who used to practice optometry in CA, and said the price I paid was unconscionable. I was younger then and maybe their pricing practices have changed. I’ll never know because I’ll never go back as I am now a «buyer aware».

Dr. Bold is the best optometrist I have ever been to! And I’ve been to quite a few in the 30 years I’ve needed to. He’s incredibly knowledgable and can explain everything in laymans terms. Plus he’s just a great guy and never rushes through an appt. I go to his office in Newport Beach and I never feel inferior because I’m on medi-​cal. His receptionist (who I learned today is the reigning Ms Orange County) has got to be the sweetest thing around. Even though I’m only there a couple times a year she always recognizes me and we chat like old friends. She also works every possible discount she can which is a huge help! Go to Dr. Bold, you will not regret it!

$$$$$ — Very expensive. They will charge for everything and the cheap frames are cheap for a reason. If you want a decent pair of everyday glasses it will cost you more than $ 700.00 with a 20% discount.
