Travelodge La Mesa

I have NEVER received such bad service in all my life! First it took me 5 hours one day and another six hours the next to try to contact the hotel by phone. The phone kept ringing and ringing, then would eventually disconnect. I called the toll free number for Travelodge and was given a completely different number to a different hotel in downtown San Diego even though I confirmed the number given to me was to the La Mesa Travelodge. Finally, after having to dial the area code plus the number (which by the way, is the same area code I’m in) I got thru and spoke to John. John said there was a problem with our reservation and was unwilling to help. I expressed my disappointment and he encouraged me never to use their location again. I was not rude, just needing to be helped. His response to the fact that no one would answer the phone was .“Oh”. If this is the kind of service he’s providing over the phone to someone who made a online reservation, can you imagine how he is to someone who is at the front desk. After reading the other reviews (which I should have done first) I can see that I’m not the only one with this kind of experience. Stay away! Pay a few dollars more and stay someone that values you as a person. BTW, I too would give the place a «no star» if that was an option.

I was going to check in to the Travelodge today. I made reservations thru Travelocity. on arrival I spoke to the manager about having a second guest visit for a while, mind you not staying the night just visiting to watch TV. He was insistent that I pay extra for my guest. he kept pointing to a sign on the counter that said no guests, I wouldn’t recommend this hotel to anyone, I would also recommend personality training for the front desk staff
Any establishment that treats customers this way should be avoided.

This is my second time staying here and it will be my last!!! I would not even give 1 star so the first time was great we loved it no issues at all then this trip we get in at 4 to check in and the guy asked for my card agen I asked why you already charged my room «even tho I did not approve it to be charged they charged it before I even got to cali» they keep the card on file from last time and took it upon them selfs to charge the same card. He went on to say that theirs a deposit of 100.00 well I said I Dont have that I get paid at midnight he said ok come back in the am I had heard him tell one lady it was a 50.00 deposit and someone else it was 200.00 so why is their different deposit amounts when the first time their was no deposit I’ll let u stay tonight because you are staying for 3 nights I said ok thank you I’ll be here at 6am to cover it. I had dinner plans with my dad and my husband was in the room well his cousin wanted to come over just for a hour while I was having dinner well my husband asked them if it was OK for him to be here he did not want the car to get towed the guy Eric said their would be a 10.00 fee we said fine we would pay it then he changed his mind and said no I can’t let you no visitors allowed your wife should know this my cousin said ok no problem I will face book and Unilocal this then Eric said you had enough to get out now or I’ll call the cops well I get a call in the middle of dinner and was being told what happened well we get to the hotel around 130 and the loose at us and watches us walk up the stares well I put my door key in and the guy locked me out I go down their and ask why he said I Dont know you I need your I’d well thing get heated then agen and the guy said remember I have your debit card. What a a** hole really this is how you give customer service you will all be out of a job if you keep this up their is soo many bad reviews on this place and the guys we unfortunately had to deal with this time you would think that this would be a red flag to talk to your staff and train them or even better get rid of them a drunk bum would do a better job then this Eric guy who is not worth the air we breathe he is a disgrace to human kind and dose not deserve a job I would have fired him if he was on my staff better yet he would not have been hired in the first place

Wow. I wouldn’t wish this on my worst enemy. Erick the Middle Aged Spanish guy at the front desk was an exceptionally crappy human being that day.
He treated me like a criminal because I didn’t know there was a $ 200 deposit on the room. When I came back with the money HE DENIED ME SERVICE!!!
«You cost the hotel a lot of money therefore we will not do business with you» we’re his exact words
I’m in shock! He wouldn’t even let me wait for my über in the lobby. Called me a trespasser!
Never stay here!

I m a traveler and this is the worst hotel I’ve been into. Poor customer service and this is the first time I heard the «no visitor policy» they have. They called me in the room just to kick out my visitors. They need to have people skills training before they get employed. These people who run this particular Travelodge are bottom class.

This place is horrible. My sister and I were trying to prepare things for my brother’s graduation with my parents who were visiting from far away at SDSU. The front desk had the nerve to call us and tell us they have a no visitor policy! What kind of motel has a no visitor policy! We were not able to finish our preparations with our parents and our whole family could not stay together in my parent’s room to do anything. No thank you TRAVELODGE. If I had a chance to stay in a crack house versus this hotel, I would rather stay in a crack house. At least a crack house would let you have visitors…

SCAM ! I will never stay here or any Travel Lodge. The way we were treated this weekend was Absurd. We booked a room for two adults and a 6 month old baby weeks in advance for one night. We drove 11 hours and got there at almost 10 at night. When we got there for check in they didn’t have the 6 month old baby as one of our guests. They then refused us the room without acceptations! They would not let us pay extra for the baby. They said no vacancy! They acted as if children were not allowed. We had booked through expedia and when expedia tried to call them to talk to them the people at the front desk didn’t answer the phone. Seriously two women and a child left out in the cold downtown without a room. Rude. If I could give zero stars I would. This place is a dumpy scam. Be careful! I read other reviews on facebook as well as here and they have done similar to other guests. They take your money and leave you out in the cold. Heartless management.

Unfortunately there is no zero stars because I think one star is too much for the very very very RUDE reception manager for this hotel … He canceled my reservation because I was asking him to explain for me about the deposit… Really super RUDE person.

My family was kicked out of this location last night. The individuals in the front desk area used profanity to kick them out and they didn’t care that there was children present. My family was also told multiple times that if they didn’t hurry up and leave the police would be called. Had I been there I would have let them call the police. The police protect and serve and that’s exactly why they needed to be called in this case. Those individuals at the front desk are cruel and savage, had the police been called they would have seen that too.
We do not recommend this place. It is not okay to treat people this way. It is not okay to throw children out into the streets at 10:30pm (or at any time for that matter). If you stay here, you are supporting this kind of behavior and heinous actions. It is clearly what happens often here.

Don’t even think about staying here. The manager is such a cold-​blooded creepy psycho. This douchebag kicked us out from this useless motel-​called garbage building for some nonsense. There was a stupid rule at this place, it’s like no more than 2 guys at one room, so we followed it unsatisfactory. I stayed first night with my friend, and another of my friend came next day. I decided to stay at my sibling’s house to spare my buddy a place to stay. This sweet decision touched motherfucking nerve of this creepy ass manager, then he kicked us out. Manager will keep following your ass if he feels something special with you whether good or bad. Hope nobody will ever get raped by him anymore.

First let me start by saying you should not stay here for the simple fact the customer service is not something you just earn it should be given as apart of the hotel service. The individual at the front desk needs to be retrained it is completely not right to be rude to customers that are coming to you friendly expecting a great service. Secondly when someone who is paying simply needs to go to the bathroom you should greatly open your doors to let them go to the bathroom and give them the benefit of the doubt without thinking the worst. Also when talking to a customer the tone does not need to be hostile when you do that it makes the customer want to react hostile which effects the whole reason of going to a hotel is for relaxation and a little piece of mind.

Rooms are nice and clean. Desk service is no help. Made reservation online for 4 but it only showed up as two when we arrived at hotel. They wouldn’t allow us to all stay in the room which was 2 queens. Parking lot was mostly full and was not large enough for a pickup. Had to park on street. Parking was a deal breaker because we are moving.

If you will not check anyone in until exactly 4:00pm then why not have more than one person working the desk if at 3:57 you can see a line of 15 people deep? Slowest check in ever at a hotel. Haven’t even made it to my room yet and I am regretting booking this place

STAY AWAY! I had reservation cancelled.
I went to the front desk and told the front desk (MICERABLE PERSON) my concerns about multiple thing not working in the room and just for doing that he tells me you have 10 minutes to leave sorry your not happy with your stay. Let me do you a favor by cancelling you reservation. I WILL NOT NOT BE COMING BACK HERE. I wanna say that travelodge doesn’t even know what this MICERABLE PERSON IS DOING TO THERE COMPANY. WHOM EVER HAD STAY HERE CALL CORPORATE. DO A COMPLAINT !!! should call travelodge corporate number. It’s a family own business. That is why there doing what there doing cause he knows nothing would happen.

This dump of a hotel is situated next to the Mexican eatery I reviewed previously (eat there, dodge here) and around a Von’s, so I thought primal location right? Wrong.
The day manager «Neal» (not sure if this is even his name but he’s a middle aged Indian man) is a fucking nightmare. I can’t believe how rude and miserable he is. I went downstairs after having a brief argument over the phone about some missing items from my room after it was cleaned while I wasn’t there, and he immediately was defensive and unwilling to listen. He then abruptly tells me «you’ll be checking out in the morning», I had to laugh. He cancels my reservation with 3 nights remaining. He was doing me a damn favor.
I wouldn’t recommend this seedy ass horrible customer service having «establishment» to ANYONE. La Mesa isn’t the poshest area, but you can definitely find better places to crash. DON’T DO IT!

Giving this place even one star is an insult to Unilocal and to my good senses but ignoring it would be even worse. I have never in my life spoken to a ruder, more obnoxious, hostile and unpleasant hotel manager in my life. Another reviewer said that «the owner/​manager was rude as fuck.» I disagree — this manager does not deserve to be mentioned in the same sentence as «fuck».
I had to go to El Cajon court for work on a last minute notice and couldn’t find any nice hotel to stay in. This was one of the very few, not-​so-​nice options. I called Travelodge, to see if I could request a room on an upper floor, as I’m not comfortable staying on a ground floor in a place with outside corridors. This miserable excuse for a HOSPITALITY worker yelled at me and told me that only an idiot could think of such a ridiculous question to ask, and when I told him that he was being rude, he said that I was stupid and that he can see my name on the caller ID and I will be forever banned from his property. It boggles the mind that Wyndham isn’t embarrassed to have this under its flagship.
Thank you, Jesus (and I’m Jewish!) for saving me from staying at this, by all accounts, hellhole of a place and keeping me away from this obnoxious, offensive, off-​putting creature. I pray he’s single.

The man working the front-​desk at 2:35pm PST today (10/​30/​2015) was so rude, it was comical. After denying flexibility with a question that I had about a reservation, I politely asked if he was the manager and if not, if I could speak to the manager.
His response verbatim — «I am the manager and I am offended that you would even think any of my employees would not give you the correct answer to your question.»… Oh the indignity, how dare any customer ask to speak to a manager at a hotel after receiving an inadequate response to a question — I am sure this has never happened at a Travelodge. I know that every Travelodge employee in the company’s long and illustrious history has been nothing but perfect when dealing with a customer.
Look, I can understand sticking up for your employees in the face of a rude or unreasonable customer, but that was not the case here. I work in Customer Service myself and simply know that manager’s often have more lee-​way and decision-​making authority than front-​line staff.
I simply wanted to try to speak with a manager to find a mutually agreeable remedy to my issue. However, the supposed ‘manager’ that I was speaking with instantly got offended, rude, and hung-​up on me. I sincerely hope he was just having a bad day, but he doesn’t appear to have the right demeanor for this business.

I am so confused by these terrible reviews. I was traveling by myself and was very worried after reading all the reviews. But I was pleasantly surprised.
The room during my 4 night stay was very inexpensive, and having traveled a lot I knew what to basically expect from a Travelodge. The area around the hotel was nice, plenty of restaurants steps from the hotel. (The mexican place had fantastic breakfast!) And a Vons a block away, walking to and from was no issue at all.
I was happy to find plenty of parking at the hotel, and only one door in and out of the hotel. The front desk was nice and professional. Check in was quick and easy. The elevator is a little sketchy, I used the stairs whenever I didn’t have luggage.
I stayed in a king room, it was spacious and had a giant flat panel tv. The furniture looked like it had been recently replaced and the refrigerator and fridge were in great condition. The bed was decent and the pillows were better then I expected.
The carpet had some stains and some rough spots, the bathroom had scratches and stains as well. The bathtub and shower were old, but everything was clean.
I always left before 11AM and came back normally after 8PM, so I am not sure about the horror stories people had staying during that time. But all 3 of the different maids I met were sweet and professional.
After I had checked out I had forgotten something in my room, when I ran up in the middle of the maid working I explained my situation and had no issue as I grabbed my phone charger.
When I come back in the spring I will be using this hotel again. I had to write a review to at least give people another point of view.

Stay far, far away. After traveling all day, we arrived to find out we couldnt have 3 people in a room. My boyfriend, myself and our daughter. At MIDNIGHT we were forced to dind another place to stay. Beyond irate. The rude guy at the counter wouldnt even look my boyfriend in the face. Shady stuff going on here.
Oh, AND itll take a week to credit back my credit card. And 3 people sleeping in a rental car was a great time.

STAY AWAY STAY AWAY STAY AWAY!!! We had a 3 night stay here last weekend and on our 2^nd night they locked us out of our room, and when we went downstairs to ask why, the RUDE reception guy said that it’s because we have a dog and we are no longer welcome there. We were in awe because we had absolutely no idea why he would think that. We thought it was a joke. He continued to be rude and say that we could no longer stay there and being sarcastic and accusing innocent people. He gave us no chance to ask questions and when we said we were going to call corporate you can tell he turned bright red and remained quiet. Needless to say corporate was on our side and apologized profusely.
ALSO, the sheets were yellow and the pillow case had a big brown stain on it. And I had bed bug bites all over me after one night.
If you know what’s good for you, STAY AWAY!!!
