They FIXED it. Wow. I have taken my Porsche to two different repair places including a dealer and they could not find out the problem. Dennis Sherman Foreign Car Service found the problem and fixed it. Finally I can enjoy the performance of this fantastic car.

I have never been to such a clean auto shop in my life. You could eat off the floor. All I could think of is, «If they take this much care in their shop, I can only imagine the care they take with my car».
Very happy. Helpful and friendly service. They have all my future business, as I feel nothing but confident of the work they are doing and recommending.

I came in, prepared to make an appointment for another time – I’ve had my BMW wagon for about a week (2003) and haven’t had it looked at, used my «ladies intuition» when it came time to purchase and so far, we’re good (which is why I had to find a repair place, just in case).
Instead of turning me away, or charging me, or scheduling me for another time, the guy was so kind and polite and accommodating – I assured him that I could return later and understand that he’s busy (the shop full of Porsche and BMWs). He looked under the car, then unsatisfied with what he wasn’t able to see, he puts it up on the lift! He undid the oil thingy and thoroughly looked around – Most likely I’ll need to have a little work done, but he looked at the tires and brakes and told me that it seems in good shape. Seriously, this just isn’t done – I am absolutely impressed with this sort of ‘small town’ personable, and above/​beyond care for a *stranger* – I haven’t even spent a dime in there and they’ve treated me like I’m a longtime, loyal customer.
In addition, and this is probably what was most stunning – I have NEVER seen such a clean auto repair place: It’s obvious that these guys are meticulous and that combined with the great Unilocal reviews have made me so much more comfortable about my impulse auto purchase.
I have a trustworthy service person! You all are going to the top of my Xmas bake list.

I had gone to Dennis Sherman for years, but had to put my ’76 911 in storage 4 years ago. A few days ago, I decided to get it up and running again. I had the car towed to the shop expecting the worst. 24 hours later, I got a call from Dave saying the car was done and ready to go. They fixed what needed to be done and the price was super fair. The car is back on the road within 48 hours! Great to see the team at Dennis Sherman is still providing superior service and looking out for their clients.

I have been a German car owner since the 80’s– like anyone I’ve always valued honest, fair, great service. My first encounter with these guys was Unilocal– I was in the market for a used BMW nearby (Baldwin Auto Sales) that had evidence of a fluid leak I needed to verify before purchase The dealer would not allow me to take the car to my garage (red flag for Baldwin– need to write a review on them) — so via Unilocal I found (highly rated) Dennis Sherman nearby and convinced… yes I had to convince Baldwin to drop off the car for a vehicle inspection. The inspection with D.S. Auto was arranged/​paid over the phone and I received a phone call and emailed report with everything I needed to know about the car same day. It turned out to be a failed part that was going to cost in excess of $ 500 to replace– I negotiated with the dealer, in the end they wanted me to pay for repairs! As much as I wanted that shiny silver BMW 535i… I walked away! Thank you Dennis Sherman Auto!
Since then I have been to Dennis Sherman for repairs and maintenance… It’s a mom and pops with highly skilled mechanics that know German auto! The garage itself operates as a well-​oiled machine… each time we go to pick up a car and finish chatting with the guys, it «magically» appears outside the bay door ready for us to drive off!

Been coming here for two years and we enjoy this little gem in La Mesa. We have a Cayenne Diesel and have been bringing the car here for regular service. As you pull into the parking lot of the shop you can’t help but appreciate the vintage feel of the building and the shop itself. They have many cars that they work on and I have seen some old and new beauties so obviously there are many car aficionados in San Diego that trust this shop with their cars. We bought our car from Porsche San Diego who were great to work with and lived up to their name but being that we work in East County it is more convenient and less expensive to have our car serviced here. Dennis is a stand-​up mechanic who we trust. They make recommendations and things to look out for or expect in the future in terms of maintenance but they will never up sell you. They are extremely honest and very fairly priced for «A» quality workmanship. Who knew owning a German brand car could be affordable thanks to Dennis and his team.

Very difficult to find a honest mechanic when you drive an Audi. Every where else I have been will tell you how difficult your car is to repair. That as a mechanic Audi is a nightmare… Well, when you start hearing this run away!!! They’re trying to con you!
Here, no BS! Dennis know his stuff and he is very upfront and trustfully. I have the best experience ever :-). I had to change catalytic on my Audi A6, and Audi San Diego quoted me for over $ 5,000. I was starting to look at my car with a goodbye look as she wasn’t (and still not) 100,000 miles on the odometer. I could afford what Dennis quoted me and now I am back in love with my car and think I would keep it for a good 10 years :-). I will definitely come back. Dennis knows Audi!!!

The best and most honest BMW and Porsche shop in San Diego county. Dave and Scott will treat you and your car right and the price is way cheaper compared to the dealers or other foreign auto shop. And their honesty is second to none. In fact due to their astute understanding of BMW they saved me almost $ 5k in repairs for some parts and labors that was covered by BMW. They saw the problem, and sent car to South County BMW for the warranty repair. They are my mechanics for the rest of my cars life.

I was a customer of this place for a little over a year, at first I found them very fair and informative. Three weeks ago I took my car in for a problem with a noise it was making. The next day the owner called me to tell me the car needs a new transmission and only new transmissions were available because the transmissions were so tricky no one worked on old ones to sell the. The price he quoted me was 5500.00. My car Is Volkswagen eos, not to many around. I went in to pick the car up and take it somewhere else and the owner thought he might have a new idea about the diagnosis so he drove the car around the block, imagine that, and asked me to leave it another night.
Amazingly, the next morning the car was re diagnosed, this time the work could be done for 2500.00…
I would have saved 3000.00 over night…
The car is no longer there, I took it to someone who is not interested in screwing customers… however my experience was awful and they charged me 98.00 to totally trying to screw me over. don’t trust them… get a second opinion

I was purchasing a BMW down in San Diego and needed a GREAT mechanic to take a look at it before I drove down from Beverly Hills! … These guys were AMAZING! … I was so impressed, I may actually do the 2.5 hour drive and have them work on my car! … HONEST, thorough and knew everything that there is to know about foreign high end cars! … I’d recommend them in a heartbeat and trust me I’m a stickler for a good mechanic and these guys were the best!

All the guys there are super cool and very fair. I have been going there on and off for 20 years and I trust them very much. Good people!

I needed an alternator installed and I asked how much they would charge for labor. They will not install OEM new parts unless you purchase it from them.

I have a 2003 BMW. They have been really helpful since I first took it in about a year ago. they referred me to BMW since some parts are still under warranty they saved me about 1500.00 :D
I go every now and then when My service engine turns on.

I have dealt with Dennis Sherman of La Mesa for over 20 years and found they were very good at what they do and genuinely helpful.
They took care of my old 89 BMW 325I which now has over 406,000 miles on it now.
Talk to Dave who will get you what you need and See «Chip» as one of the best mechanics around. All of their staff are good and will always be helpful.
Dennis Sherman is one of the best Foreign car repair shops in the area and I highly recommend them.
Their Night Time «drop off service» is very convenient and their professionalism is one of the highest among car repair shops in the San Diego, La Mesa, and El Cajon area.

First Time here and I loved them! I first called to see the pricing on the battery and the told me $ 248 with taxes. Compared to the dealership $ 450 – 500, that’s a good deal.
So I called back and said is there anyway I could bring it in to get the battery put today. He said his staff was on lunch break and if I could be there right at 1 that probably could pull someone aside to do it for you. He said it should take about 45 minutes and I had a doctors appointment at 2 so I was pushing time but needed it done.
I arrive was assisted right away and they were nothing but polite and super friendly they got my car right away and was literally done in 45 minutes on the dot. The price was a little bit more because they did not realize that BMW had 3 different battery types for their vehicles depending on the electronics you have and of course we have the most expensive one. GO FIGURE! However it only went up to $ 280!
I definitely recommend anyone with a foreign car to go here! You will not be disappointed !

These guys here are easy to do business with, and are truely professional auto mechanics. I have repeatedly brought my Audi A6 to them over the last couple years as it ages, and they fix what is broke, recommend future considerations, and even offer money-​saving suggestions that takes work away from them. Clean shop, friendly staff, and exceptionally reasonable rates to work on European cars.

You need more businesses to live up to the quotes that they price on the phone and this company delivers on that issue. I always paid what I was quoted here unlike other companies I’ve dealt with lately.

I’ve been meaning to write this review for a long time now, but haven’t found the time to sit down and do it. I went to the shop today, and it reminded me that I should write about what a professional and trustworthy group of mechanics these guys are.
I bought an old BMW 525i off of a private seller last year, and after reading great reviews for Dennis Sherman I decided to go there for my pre-​sale inspection. They checked out the car, and told me it was in great shape, but while we were there, the ignition lock cylinder went out, and the car was unable to start.
Dave, the mechanic doing the inspection, turned to the seller (an admitted car flipper) and asked how long he had known that the lock cylinder was going bad. When the seller said he had no idea, Dave came down on him in my defense, and basically told him that he would not have someone scamming one of his customers in his shop. Long story short, Dave said it was in great shape, and if the seller would cover the lock cylinder repair, it would be a good price.
After having the car a few months, I started having symptoms of a head gasket failure. I brought the car in to DS to get an official diagnosis. They pressurized the cooling system over night and checked it in the morning for confirmation of a head leak (which they did find), and only charged me an hour of labor.
When I told them I was going to do the job myself, they gave me encouragement, and said that if I was patient and careful I could get it done. When I had an exhaust leak after the rebuild I called and asked how much it would cost to install the exhaust manifold for me if I had the car towed in. Dave said that they wouldn’t do it, because it was against policy to jump into work that someone else was doing. Though I was frustrated, I respect their professionalism, and pride in their reputation.
After getting the rebuild done completely, and putting some miles on the car, I stopped by today to ask about what I should do about the tiny exhaust leak that I was still dealing with. Dave remembered me by name immediately, and offered me advice on what I should do from here.
Bottom line, these guys are honest, professional, and won’t BS you, even if that means telling you what you don’t want to hear.

Ray and Dave are your go to guys. I’ve visited Dennis Sherman twice now and they continue to provide excellent work and wonderful customer service. They saved me roughly $ 1,400 of repair work that BMW South County quoted me earlier in the same week. Not to mention they gave me a ride to my home and back to the shop in La Mesa while my BMW was getting worked on.
Bottom line; these guys are true professionals in every sense of the word. They look over your vehicle and if it’s been inspected by the dealer they’ll give you an honest assessment of whether or not you truly need repairs done.

My husband took our 10-​year old M5 into a BMW dealership for a repair because Dennis Sherman’s was closed over the holiday. What a mistake! The dealership supposedly found several major problems and made it sound like the car would blow up at any moment, to the tune of $ 9,400 !!
We got the car back from the dealer and brought it here for a 2^nd opinion. Ha! They found only 2 problems that they recommended fixing soon at $ 900 total. The other issues were part of normal wear & tear and can definitely wait until the next service or later. We will go nowhere else from now on. Thank you Dennis Sherman!
