Scripps Inn

This has become our «go to» place to stay when visiting glorious La Jolla. Like ourselves, it has changed over the years. Prices have risen, but improvements have accompanied the rate hike. Scripp’s Inn is the only choice for us in La Jolla. We have tried a couple of the other hostelries in town, but always return to Scripp’s.
Ideally located across from the ocean and coastal park, with the correct room and breeze, the sound of waves will lull you to sleep. Rooms are huge, done up in soothing tones of beige and turquoise. The beds are comfortable, there is excellent storage, bathrooms work well, and management cares and are on site. A small refrigerator is available for use in the rooms. Coffee and pastries are around every morning, along with a coffee maker in your room. Parking costs $ 16.00 a night.
With about a ten minute stroll to the restaurants and nightlife of La Jolla, Scripp’s Inn is perfectly tucked away so you can get a respite from the action. This may not be what some would call luxury. Nor, is Scripp’s a full fledged B & B. However, now even with the very high pricing, Scripp’s Inn is the perfect accommodation in wonderful La Jolla.

My husband and I stayed here for our anniversary and couldn’t have been more pleased! The room was gorgeous and the view was spectacular! We will definitely come again!

I came here a few months ago and super glad I did! It was extremely clean, literally a few steps from the beach. The bed was comfy.
The only con to this place is parking. It is very limited. If you come later, like after the office has closed, they aren’t really clear as to where you should park. So we just parked in the front, but we were told we were lucky my best friend didn’t get his car towed cause we aren’t suppose to park there. I wanted to stay here again this past weekend I went to SD but the price has now doubled! So my best friend and I made a promise to each other, when we both got money to blow we are gonna stay here again!

It’s been a few years since we had any friends stay here, but it’s definitely worth the mention. Small, tucked-​away, right across the street from the ocean, walking distance to La Jolla Village shopping and eateries, and ultra-​cozy. Back at that time (and perhaps still), you could walk to the office each morning and get a small basket of superb warm pastries… almost good enough to warrant staying there just for the pastries. Rates are steep, but appropriate for how lovely the place is. Don’t expect Ritz Carlton… this is the anti-​Ritz, despite similar prices. Small, intimate, and adorable.

Stayed here for two nights this past weekend. The location is perfect, right across the street from the beach. You could see the water and hear the waves crashing. The room was clean and nicely decorated in a beachy motif. The bed was very comfy. The room had a small fridge and a Keurig machine. There is also a continental breakfast offered in the morning. We had some croissants and muffins with juice. All of the staff were very friendly and helpful.
I look forward to going back there again soon. It’s a great, relaxing place for a quick getaway.

I’ve stayed at a lot of hotels in San Diego and La Jolla and am ecstatic to have found this gem! Bryce (the manager) and Savannah couldn’t have been more courteous or helpful in our time there. The Scripps Inn is the best situated beach hotel in La Jolla; seems like every room has a generous view of the ocean and you’ll fall asleep to the lullaby of surf every night. The continental breakfast is a cut above with juices, granola, and select pastries. We loved our stay and will return again!

Great place to stay. We only stayed one night with some friends. Clean room great view. And JT the staff was super helpful and friendly.

Scripps Inn is a little hidden gem in La Jolla… I had the pleasure of staying there for three nights earlier this month. While I had quite the adventure flying in and out of San Diego for that trip, I quite enjoyed the time spent staying and sleeping in my comfortable room.
I am a fan of the fabulous location, friendly staff onsite, and incredible views straight out your front door. That being said, I do not advise arriving after hours. As a woman traveling by myself arriving in the wee hours of the night, I wasn’t the most comfortable working with their after hours policy to get into my room.
I did miss having a full length mirror in my room, but that wasn’t a huge deal since every other amenity needed was provided including a decent continental breakfast in the morning. (I stayed for breakfast one morning but took advantage of the amazing coffee shops and restaurants nearby on the other mornings instead). The waterfront location cannot be beat, and I suggest opening your windows to hear the sound of the waves crashing in as you fall asleep!

Location? You can’t beat it. No, but really, you can’t. In the heart of La Jolla, this charming inn boasts an intimate setting with less than 20 rooms in an exquisite waterfront location. After hopping on a 5:30am flight and getting into San Diego around 11am (2pm my East Coast time), I was overjoyed to find that my room was ready prior to 3pm check-​in. Yet rather than steal a quick nap, I felt compelled to explore the stunning shoreline, seals and all.
I spent two nights a Scripps and found their continental breakfast to be surprisingly lovely with extremely delightful pastries. Even though I ended up seeking out a more substantial breakfast in town, jetlag forced me up by 5:30 each morning and the muffins and coffee from the office started me off on a great note.
La Jolla is a hard place to leave behind, but I was SO thrilled to stay here for a few days — Scripps was the perfect hotel to enjoy the coastal surroundings.

Gorgeous rooms and location, ultra comfy beds, and delightful free breakfast with pastries, coffee, juice, yogurt, granola and fruit. My only complaint for a room that’s over $ 400 a night they could provide something better than cheap, single ply toilet paper! Worse than gas station TP!

I am deeply disappointed with the service we received for my brother’s wedding. In my last review I had talked about how wonderful it was when I had stayed here on my wedding night. So when it came time for my brother’s wedding, naturally I knew what to recommend. Or so I thought…
Firstly, I know for a fact that, yes my brother and sister in law did enjoy their stay for the most part. However they were very displeased with how the romance package that I purchased for them as a surprise played out. The romance package is supposed to include rose petals, chocolates, champagne, and candles as well as a lit fireplace. This costs $ 120. I had initially purchased the package over the phone when booking their rooms for them. I was booking a room for them as well as my sister in law’s mother who would be staying in another room downstairs.
I had given my personal credit card to ensure that not they nor any of their guests who were also staying at the hotel would be charged. I also had requested a specific time for it to be delivered so as to have a spectacular surprise when they arrived in their room after their nuptials. Understanding that the office closes at 6:30pm, I was told when I originally booked that the candles, the flowers, the chocolates and champagne would be setup when they were not in the room, with the fireplace lit, before the office closed, and ready for their 9:30pm return after the wedding. A few days before the wedding, I had called the hotel to once again confirm all this and ensure that the correct credit card was to be charged.
My sister in law ended up being charged for it, not me. The office had charged her when her mother checked out of her room down stairs and a final bill was printed. My sister in law asked me about it right before her ceremony. I assured her I’d take care of it and that I was sorry. She should have not had to deal with it at all, let alone on her wedding day. Not only that, the items for the romance package were brought to them before their wedding ceremony even happened at 3pm when they were still there. According to my sister in law, David told them «hey look you have a romance package!» and then dropped it all off with them. When I asked her if he at least lit the fire place she said. «Was he supposed to?» To which I replied yes and she was even more disappointed because he of course did not.
To top it all off, after the wedding was over, I called to sort out the bill that was not charged correctly and merely let them know that maybe they could have done a better job. I had the «great» fortune to speak to David. He proceeded to talk over me so that I was unable to get a word in edgewise. He claimed he knew all this already and that he did a great job. (who is he trying to convince?) He raised his voice, told me off that the couple were happy so clearly there was no problem. Floored, I demanded to speak to a manager. David declined. Finally after multiple requests and much arguing and attempting to just explain my story, I asked again to speak to someone else, he said that Bryce wouldn’t be back for a couple weeks and that there was no manager.
After going back and fourth with him speaking rudely, I decided that instead of paying the full price that I had fully intended to pay, I no longer wished to pay anything considering that they had bugled the entire situation and then he had the audacity to speak to a customer in such a rude manner. He refused and said that things would stay as they were. We argued about this some more and he said he would only reduce it to $ 75 but only if I gave him the correct credit card because he didn’t have it and never did. For the third time I gave the Scripps Inn Hotel my credit card number to right this situation.
I received a call from my sister in law, while on her honeymoon, that her credit card had been charged $ 75. I then looked at my statement and saw that mine had been charged as well that same $ 75. Floored once again, I called Scripps Inn hotel back and in order to not speak with David again, I spoke to another representative in the billing department who was very kind and professional and very understanding. She got the authorization to correct the issue and now the payment has finally been sorted.
From bungling the package, to messing up the billing, to the complete lack of respect over the phone, I am just sad.
I spoke to Bryce about it today and I can appreciate his reaching out. He was professional and kind. It’s a shame I couldn’t have just dealt with him as he seems to be on top of things. I hope they can remedy this so that it doesn’t happen to anyone again.

Let’s make it clear. You mostly pay for location which is perfect if you want to be in La Jolla village. The room was decent size, mattress comfortable and it was clean. Not anything luxurious but we didn’t really expect that. Staff very friendly and pleasant and trying to ensure you are satisfied. You could get the beach chairs, towels. Now, I agree with some other reviewers that calling it B&B is a little misleading. Breakfast in the small check in office where there is typical continental kind of breakfast-​coffee, tea from Keurig, some pastries, granola. And usually, in B&B there is certain age restriction for children. We were there with our 10 years old but it was kind of surprising that there was an infant there too. So for 3 night in a row (every night) when the baby was up and crying, we were up as well. Since it’s a small inn, it felt like baby was in our room. One night we were up 3:30 am, 4:30 am and 5:30 am. You get the picture! So I am not by any means anti-​children grumpy lady but I was surprised to pay a decent amount of money and not really get much of sleep. B&B…more like loose interpretation of it. So as long as you are aware of what to expect, you could adjust your expectations appropriately.

I love Scripps Inn for the location, casual and relaxing atmosphere and helpfulness of the staff. The rooms are clean; beautifully decorated and have Philosophy body products — the best! There are thousands of things to do in the local area or if you chose, relax and play on the beach! Chat with the inn keepers for local activities! Enjoy your life! Spend time at Scripps Inn!

We used Scripps Inn for three days– the day before, wedding, and honeymoon suite! The place is absolutely gorgeous! I recommend all brides getting married at Cuvier Park to have their bridal room at Scripps Inn overlooking the beautiful Pacific Ocean! We had the Junior Suite for the day of because we had a huge bridal party and had the outdoor balcony as a breakfast mimosa lounge! The rooms were beautiful and the design was airy and seaside like. The rooms were soooo spacious for our wedding and accomodated everyone! David, the manager is soooo kind and hospitable and his staff is superb!!! We loved the expansive Honeymoon suite and it totally met our expectations on having the beautiful ambiance a honeymoon should have! Love Scripps Inn that we are coming back every Summer to celebrate!

We got married at the Pacific Union Pocket Park across the street and booked a room at the Scripps Inn where I could get ready and where we could serve drinks to our guests after the ceremony. I’m so glad we did this, and I’d recommend it to anyone getting married either at the MCASD park or Cuvier Park. The hotel was wonderful to work with and let me check in early so I could relax and get ready before the ceremony. They also gave us a room right off the beautiful communal patio so we could easily have our guests congregate there before we went to dinner. You have a gorgeous view of the ocean from the patio, which made our event really nice. The room itself was also beautiful, and all of the staff were very helpful. Couldn’t recommend this place more highly.

Bryce & the management staff were outstanding! Very accommodating. Free parking & wifi. Very clean & welcoming rooms with comfortable beds, pillows & sheets. Outstanding location!
Slept with the windows cracked to hear the ocean all night. Walk outside & all you see is water! Very close walk to la jolla’s best restaurants.

Updating: Shortly after we left our hotel on our way to the airport the hotel called us to let us know my boyfriend had left a pair of brand new (expensive) shoes in our room. We didn’t have any time to turn back so they are shipping his shoes to him. How amazing! Most hotels wouldn’t have even called let alone go out of their way to ship items left behind. Will will definitely be back!

We stayed in room #12 with views of the ocean and a fire place. We did set off the fire alarm so be careful, novice fire builders that we are. Bed was soft and pillowy and the room felt cozy on a foggy, chilly evening in January.
Loved this tidy, little jewel of a hotel perched right on the edge of the pacific. Easy access to La Jolla Cove and the restaurants, shops and the like around the village.
Very attentive, gracious staff; decent continental breakfast and supremely kick ass hot water for showers.

This place was absolutely charming! But I think calling it a bed and breakfast is extremely misleading. The location is what you are paying for in the price, but it is an amazing location. I watched the sun set on the ocean and fell asleep to the sound of the waves. The rooms are nice enough, and the staff there (I think his name was Michael?) was very very friendly and helpful. We had two vehicles, but they only charged us for one parking fee ($ 12).
My biggest complaint is the breakfast, or lack there of. We got up early (6am) and the hotel was dead. Not a soul around and the lobby was closed. So I went back to the room and made coffee and got the kids ready. At 7, everything was still closed up and no breakfast in sight. We had to get moving then, so we took off and I had to call and check out over the phone because the lobby was still closed. I don’t know what time breakfast is out or when the staff shows up, but we were disappointed to leave with empty bellies and checking out over the phone.
