San Diego Pools

We couldn’t be happier with our overall experience! From the salesperson to the construction crew, SD Pools did not let us down. They delivered on time and on budget and were a pleasure to work with!

They were scheduled to come and fix the chipped coping stones. I was told to expect them no later than 10:30−11 am. It’s now 2:42 and not only have they not shown up, no one has bothered to let me know why, or when I might expect them.
One of the big problems we had with Mike was regarding the coping, a choice he presented to us. He told us it would take two weeks, so we made sure he knew our color choices. He did not place the order and on top of that, they take around 5 weeks, not 2. Mike didn’t do his homework, and didn’t do his job. Resulting in delay for us. The pool itself is too high to be able to drain water off the patio pavers – the paver guys had to get creative in putting in slopes to drains to avoid having water come back towards house. These are the kinds of things that cause me to give this company low marks. I gave Corey the final payment early August even though the coping chips had to be fixed. He assured me they’d get right on it. Maybe tomorrow?
Update: it’s tomorrow and Raphael the stone guy showed up unannounced this morning. Luckily I was home, and luckily Raphael is a really nice guy. He felt that the chips were done by the paver guys and were not in the coping at installation. That made sense, and I have no reason to doubt his sincerity. He explained what would need to happen in order to replace the stones and we decided a better less invasive compromise would be to fill in the chips with grout, so that is what he did. He is sending another guy to finish up some other caulk and grout work. I’m happy things are getting done, although not showing up and not giving any explanation or effort to reschedule was not what I consider very nice. I am bumping up to two stars however just for Raphael.

I don’t have a pool installed with these guys, just an estimate… so far. However, I must say that their customer service on the front end is top notch. To be fair to the other Unilocalers, I have no idea how or if things change one you’ve signed the contract.
Turns out it’s a family run business, and the first person to return my inquiry was the/​a daughter, Katie. I guess she manages the office and schedules, and she’s very polite, effective and efficient. Brother Kenny then came to my house took a couple of quick measurements, and spent 20 minutes answering my questions and discussing with me what I was looking to have done. He came back a week later and presented me a drawing/​schematic, and a binder full of product choices and the estimate.
Overall, I have to say that I’m impressed with their professionalism. Like I said though, I’m not sure what happens after the estimate phase of a pool installation, so take this review with a grain of salt.

I interviewed all the «big guys» in pool installation before I went with San Diego Pools. Ken and Corey had their work cut out for them. They had to remove a mess and replace it with something beautiful, on a hillside, with no equipment access, and I have dogs. They succeeded. It is beautiful. Best contractor experience ever. On time, on budget and the result was really special.

Sd pools pools put a pool in for us last winter, Ken was able to work with us to design a back yard paradise for us within our budget, Corey worked with us on a consistent basis helping us along the way, Ken, Corey, and German were first class !! They are the first honest construction company I think I have dealt with in a long time, we had a couple different pool companies over and none were as professional as SD pools, other companies send out a sales guy that just wants to dig a hole without thought, Ken listened to us and was able to have a great design at a reasonable price compared to what others were offering, the owner of the company comes to your house, now that tells you a lot about SD POOLS !! Hands down the best experience I have had !!
I still talk to Corey about pool questions and he is always able to help out.
I would definitely have SD pools build me another one if we were to move.

Ken, of San Diego Pools was one of five top pool builders that we met with. San Diego Pools has been in business for over 20 years and that says a lot. During our initial pool consulation, Ken answered our many questions, as we had never built a pool before. Ken was very knowledgeable, courteous and professional. After meeting with Ken we became certain we wanted him to build our dream pool. We explained to Ken that we wanted him to design a free form pool with spa that would fit within our budget. Ken returned to our home a week later with a wonderful pool design. We went over the design with Ken, asking several questions throughout the meeting. Ken listened to us and made several suggestions, which we appreciated. Ken would have built us any type of pool we wanted with all the bells and whistles, but he knew we wanted to stay within a certain budget so he explained to us what options he thought were the wisest and most important. He did not try to upsell us anything and did not encourage us to buy anything that we did not need or want. What we both admired most about Ken was his honesty and sincerity. Ken seems more interested in building a pool that his customers want and will love, instead of making money doing it. The majority of the workers are Ken’s own employees and the rest are sub-​contactors that he has used for years. His delightful daughter Katie runs the office, sets up your appointments and will happily assist you in any way she can. Corey, the site supervisor, is Ken’s right hand man. Corey knows everything there is to know about building a pool and will be present before and during every important phase of building your pool. Corey made it clear in the begining that he would continuously check on the progress of our pool, while ensuring that it was being built properly and professionally. Corey did exactly what he promised, he was always there checking on the progress and made sure everything went as smooth as possible. Corey will give you his cell number and will respond quickly by phone or in person to answer and questions or concerns you may have. Our pool was completed in the promised 8 – 10 week time frame. After the pool was completed, Eric came by and throughly explained all our pool functions, web based internet application, cleaning and servicing our pool. It’s been a month since our pool was completed and it looks amazing! Corey made it clear that even after our pool was completed that he would always be available to any question that I may have concerning our pool. Our pool looks great! We have a salt water free form pool with an 8′ spa, Pentair equipment, pebble finish, LED lights and an internet web control system. We are so glad we chose San Diego Pools and highly recommend them!

We just got our pool built with San Diego pools and we are very happy.
From the beginning to the end we had an amazing customer service. The pool was finished when promised. All the workers were very professional and did a great job.
The communication was excellent.
