Maui Powerhouse Gym

I’m visiting from California and this gym came recommended. It has all the equipment you need plus more. People are friendly and it opens nice and early (530 am during the week) although I wish it opened earlier on the weekends. They offer a lot of classes– I have not been able to check any out yet…

I really love my gym! Powerhouse is like my home away from home!!! My happy place!!! Great vibe, great energy, great classes and CLEAN!!! Shaun and Logan are the best! They’re so good at what they do and run the best gym on Maui by far!!!

I’ve been going to this gym since the day it opened. Logan has always been the best and still is the best. The new guy Shawn is an **shole. Not friendly at all and I’ve talked to many people that the gym and they seem to say the same. Besides that, I love the improvements in the gym.

I love this gym ! Great assortment of equipment. Friendly staff, free towel, smells clean, TV on some cardio equipment. Machines are in great shape, clean, quite a assortment. Work out classes are the best. I’m just getting back into shape and the classes are so much fun. You can take them at your pace, you are not pushed. I take yoga and cardio classes, the instructors are very good, very professional. This is the best gym on Maui ! Thank you Maui Powerhouse gym.

Hidden fees.
If you want to get into a class you have to pay 5 additional dollars to sign up in advance. Out of 4 staff members not one person mentioned that. It was a big surprise to learn i would be paying a extra 10 to 15 dollars a week just to go to classes my membership was paying for.

this is like 50 stars too many!
SERIOUSLY if i had ONE DAY to live i would want to get dropped off there for a day pass and after like 2minutes i would be TAKE ME NOW I OVER IT!
IF they paid me 10x the membership cost to train there 1day a week I would NOT train there for 5min for $ 10k …i drive fast past that center now I know how dirty and moldy brokedown that place is! HOW they in business is beyond my ability to understand!

Spent 10 days at the Powerhouse Gym in early December 2015. The desk greeted me every day like I had been there for years. Small, but excellent place to work out. I am big on Precore Exercise equipment since I use it at home in Nevada. They had updated Precore cardio equipment that I loved to use. Hope we get some at home.

My husband bought us memberships to Powerhouse gym and today we used our passes for the first time. Upon entering the facility, the staff was very helpful and friendly. I was actually pretty impressed. As a former LA Fitness member, I paid about $ 40 a month including childcare. Although this gym is a bit more expensive, I enjoyed a couple different features: TVs with extensive channels on cardio machines. I get bored doing cardio and sometimes music doesn’t cut it. I watched a movie and ended up doing a longer cardio workout than normal because I was so into the movie. I like that they provide towels, as I forget mine sometimes; and cleaning equipment, so I can wipe my machine down before and after. The machines are all in great condition and there is a crossfit type area in the front of gym. There seems to be a lot of workout classes available to try. There are saunas in both locker rooms. The childcare area had a large TV playing movies, a trampoline and lots of toys to keep the kids busy. The childcare attendant was very nice and she seemed to be a natural with the kids there, I believe her name was Domi or Dominique? I liked her approach and she made my daughter feel at ease being there for the first time. The only thing that did not impress me was the state of the woman’s locker room. They are storing items in the woman’s vanity area. I feel like that is something that can be improved, I suggest making the area more «spa like» or inviting. Everything else was great and lived up to my expectations. I would have given this gym a 5 star if it wasn’t for the locker room being in disarray.

Usually when I intend on joining a gym I am greeted by some friendly energetic people who appreciate my business. After all I have been in fitness for 25 years.
The gym is cool and childcare is a huge bonus if it is staffed with someone who cares about the children (not always the case here).
I would definitely have joined if the staff was a little more friendly.
I almost felt bad for the staff working there. They seemed kind of depressed and unfriendly on different occasions.

Went in to get a week’s membership and the guy that served me (who was polite and welcoming) extended it through an extra day to take me through the end of our stay — which I thought was a nice touch.
Gym itself is clean decently stocked (cardio, free weights, machines) and the equipment is all in good working order from what I could see. It’s on a level with a nicer 24 Hour Fitness or Gold’s.
Clientale looked to be a mixture of visitors and locals — some people certainly seemed to know each other — with a range of work out needs (from older folks through to more muscle minded individuals). Vibe is friendly — none of the testosterone-​fueled nonsense you get in some places.
Overall I’m glad I made this my gym choice in Maui. $ 70 for a week seems like about a fair price if you’re planning to get down their most days (I think of it in terms of 7 x $ 10 day passes).

This is a really nice gym. Very clean, new equipment, very knowledgeable and friendly staff. I purchased a weekly pass because I was working out at another place which was gross. I couldn’t do it anymore so I came here — wish I had done it sooner.
It is a little pricey but you’re on Maui — you have to expect it. But it is worth every penny. I tried saving money by going to another place in the area and will never do that again. It’s not overly crowded and it is very spacious and comfortable.
I noticed that the majority of the people there are tourists and not many locals. (they are at the ghetto gym around the corner).
If you’re in the Kihei/​Wailea area and want a great gym — definitely check these guys out!

Awesome place to work out and great staff! Recently renovated and they even offer dance class for the kids.

Best Gym in Maui!
First of all, the gym looks absolutely beautiful!
It offers plenty of classes and the gym is always extremely clean, staff is super friendly.
Now. I am reading a couple reviews here that I have to disagree.
Of course the prices are higher then in the mainland, you are in Hawaii! The cost of living is higher so obviously it will be more pricey. Also, why take stars off an establishment because someone dropped their weights by you. lol

Great cycle class, great equipment, customer service leaves much to be desired. I found this gym from the Mind-​body app when I was searching for a spin class to attend while on my honeymoon. I found T’s extreme endurance class which you could sign up for even if you’re not a member. The fee was $ 20 which is pretty comparable to most specialty classes, at least back home in Portland. I loved the class and it was well worth the money. However, the customer service was terrible. The front desk staff couldn’t seem to care less about having your business. I first called and received some icey treatment and assumed they were just busy. However, when we showed up for the class another staff member was completely rude and seemed totally put off by answering questions even when I mentioned I had never been there before. I’m not talking inattentive or busy, the girl at the front literally rolled her eyes and sighed at me when we asked what the process was for checking in. I was told they preferred people not to sign up via the mind-​body app– which is fine, then don’t make it an option. Seems pretty simple. We found out the class was brand new and causing some kinks but that’s still no excuse to be rude to clients. The gym was clean and well stocked. I would give five stars to the class itself. The instructor and even the other class members were so friendly. it was such a fun high energy experience. The 75 minute class flew by. Great music, loved the bikes, loved the instructor, not really into the customer service. Still I’d do it again in a second despite the staff because it was so awesome!

We found the gym on the Silver Sneaker website. When we went to check it out, Logan welcomed us and let us look around. We returned the next day, filled out a short form and used the facility. When we left we were given a membership to swipe for future visits; quite painless.
There is a good variety of machines and classes. There’s also a stretching area. The locker rooms are clean with showers and a sauna.
We feel fortunate to discover the gym and will return on future visits.

Decent gym. I would not go as far as saying that it is a good one though. Although they have quite a bit of cardio machines and weight lifting equipment available, the gym equipment and locker rooms just felt dirty. I wanted to use the bikes for some spinning but after I looked at them I just lost my appetite for biking altogether. Those bikes were the most disgusting and dirtiest things I wave seen. For 20 bucks per day, you can do better. I pay 45 bucks a MONTH for 24 hours fitness and they do much better than that.

This is my 4^th time visiting Maui and I decided to check out powerhouse gym here to see what it was like. The day pass was $ 20 plus tax and on the from counter is displayed membership rates for visitors and locals and returning visitors. This concept of preferential pricing for locals is nothing new in Hawaii especially at grocery stores where certain food costs much more to ship to import than on the mainland. But how gym memberships should be priced higher for visitors vs locals makes no sense to me.
I was interested in the 1 month membership and that would have cost me roughly $ 120. This is more than double what I paid at the gym I went to last year. So I thought I guess this place must be twice the value.
The Gym — clean, lots of Cardio. Decent machines and free weight selection but only 1 flat bench press… which strikes me as odd based on the size of the gym.
The people — I went in the morning and most people looked they were from the mainland and retired or close to. A few younger people. Not many local looking types.
My verdict. — I had am ok workout, it was a clean facility and had decent equipment but it was definitely not worth paying double the price.
Back home in Toronto, I have been to a few gyms that cater to higher end clientele and many charge $ 150-​$ 200 a month… but the facilities definitely reflect the price. You get all the bells and whistles. Maui Powerhouse is a standard gym charging high end gym prices… at least for short term visitors.

CREEPY cameras in locker room.
I was in the Maui Powerhouse Gym as a guest. It seemed clean while under renovations. Customer service not so much.
I observed what appeared to be a long time member asking why there were still video cameras in the locker room mounted to the ceiling. The member tried to explain that it was offensive and illegal to have video cameras where members are changing clothes.
Very rudely the counter person told him it was none of his #$%^ business, the owners were aware, and get the F#$k out.
From the look of shock on the members face, they are not likely to return. I know that I won’t.

Great gym. Love the group classes and spin instructors. Clean, well run facility with great improvements on the horizon.

Great little gym with very friendly people. It has basically everything you need, but it is a little small, so it’s hard to find space to do exercises if they can’t be done on a particular machine.
I was in Maui for just a few days, so I came here using their day passes, which are $ 15 per person per day.
