Orchid Key Inn

Found this place on tripadvisor and it was also recommended by a friend.
Overall, a good experience. The rate was not cheap, even for a weekday stay, but I guess that’s to be expected in Key West.
Pros: 2 free drinks per day at their bar, 4 total
Location was great. Right off Duval, but still quiet
Parking was $ 10 and convenient, right on premise

WIFI!!! They need to update it badly. I felt like I was on aol dial up circa 1998. I used my Verizon 4G data the entire stay as it was MUCH faster than the free wifi. Didn’t bother me, since I have plenty of data to use with my plan, but if I were an international tourist, I’d be annoyed.
All in all, a good stay. I would recommend this place again.

Six adults, 3 rooms, 4 nights. This place was incredible! Customer service was outstanding every step of the way. The people were awesome, the rooms were very nicely done, place was clean and no matter the question we got everything answered and take care of. There is no doubt in any of our minds we will be going back to Key West and we cannot stay anywhere else but the Orchid Key Inn.
We wanted a place close to the Duval street action and an eclectic Key West experience. This place hit it off the charts. It just happened to be during the biker’s annual Poker Run. We got two king suites and a queen suite. The rooms had fridges, the toilet was separate room from the rest of the bathroom, beautiful appointments all throughout the rooms, and a very comfortable bed. Turndown service with chocolates and a couple of free waters in the room were nice touches. Even during «noisy» times in the area the rooms were still quiet. The pool and hot tub areas were well taken care of and felt like an oasis.
We all loved every moment there at the Orchid Key Inn. We will be back!

So pleasantly surprised! My husband booked the room. We showed up and I saw the outside neon and thought– oh dear! The room was beautiful! Plenty big enough. Decorated in contemporary beach with all the special touches: robes, fancy toiletries, plush bath rugs, etc. frig, microwave and coffee in rooms. I appreciated the free perks such as the happy hour and breakfast. I would def stay here again ad recommend it. Convenient to Duvall activities but far enough from the busy end so it’s pretty quiet.

Stayed here for one night as a first time to Key West just checking things out. Chose this Inn based on Unilocal reviews and feedback. It was a great little place located perfectly for walking and seeing the heart of Key West. The rooms were impeccable and had just the right amount of space and amenities. Cindy at the front desk was so friendly and helpful. the breakfast was great and the little bar very convenient… we loved it so much that we’re going be back for New Years. Highly recommend !

This is an amazing retreat from the bustle of Duvall St. cindy was so accommodating and we had a wonderful time, a must for key west!

We did a significant amount of research before booking a hotel room for our 4-​night, 5-​day stay in Key West. We stayed all 4 nights at this little gem of a motel, and loved every second of it. They have an eclectic style, clean rooms, quaint bar, and extremely friendly staff. They accommodate to your every need, and are extremely friendly. The rooms are updated and very modern, with an island twist. The grounds are meticulously maintained and ridiculously appealing. The bar staff was helpful and answered all of our questions about the area, and also poured awesome drinks. Not to mention, each person gets 2 free drinks when arriving! I am pretty critical when it comes to hotels, and I can’t think of one thing wrong with this place. Every little detail was absolutely perfect! We’re coming back this year, and have already booked another stay at The Orchid Key Inn =)

What a great stay at the Orchid Key Inn. My mother and I had a week long girls weekend. We rented the suite with a sitting room/​gorgeous bar with sleeper sofa and a king bedroom. First, the design of the rooms was tasteful and well appointed. There is a small refrigerator, microwave, keurig, and updated iHome. The sleeper sofa was incredibly comfortable. I never woke up hurting the entire week. The shower is so nice and bathroom has a separate water closet.
The pool was never crowded. At times you may not get a lounge chair in the sun but there are plenty of tables of chairs in the sun so it is never an issues. There is also a hut tub which I did not indulge in seeing as it was 87 degrees out!
The Orchid Key bar is amazing. They have an excellent drink and wine menu, they infuse their own vodkas and always have specialty cocktails. I loved their Gin & Juice as well as the Key Lime Martini! One of the bartenders, Terry, was our favorite — she was just so awesome and really made out stay.
There were only a few cons —
The housekeeping varied each day. The room was always clean but being on the sleeper sofa the whole week, every day something different happened with my sheets. Most days my bed was unmade, not a big deal but annoying.
All the outlets in our suite were on the same circuit and the one night we blew it out with two hairdryers. We didn’t realize the two rooms were connected. A littlw frustrating while trying to get ready for a night out.
Last– the outlets themselves were so hard to come by. My mom had to charge her phone in kindle in the bathroom. I know they wanted to hide outlets but it made it impossible to plug in phones, etc.
Honestly, this place is spectacular. I have stayed many places in KW and I will never stay anywhere else again. You are never a number and the employees take incredible care of you. I never met one person That did mot treat me with the greatest respect! Get me back to this hotel ASAP!

My husband let me do the booking. When we first pulled up he said it looked like a motel from the 50’s. I checked us in and he parked the car. When we walked into the room I was extremely happy and my husband said «wow! This is nice! From now on I’m letting you book the room when we go on vacation!» I have to admit, I was wow’d myself and very happy with my choice :) she’s a little pricey but well worth it. The rooms have a spa look to them. The location was perfect for great restaurants and partying. We never used the car once. The pool and grounds were awesome, the the staff were helpful and nice and the continental breakfast was the best I’d ever seen on the variety. They also did a nightly turn down on the bed with chocolates… We had an awesome time here and will definately be back! We also found out that return guest save about 30 bucks a night! Looking forward to our next tIme here ;)

From the outside it looks just like a motel but once you step inside it is like a romantic oasis. From the friendly staff to the beautiful rooms, it was relaxing.
We stayed here from Aug 9^th to Aug 11^th and Cindy at the front desk took extra care of us. The complimentary champagne for our special occasion was a very nice gesture as well.
The bar was modernized with sweet bartender. Terry is very upbeat and friendly.
The breakfast was continental style and decent enough.
The grounds were clean and rooms were impeccable but I agree very small. Then again we did not really stay in our rooms.
The pool and jacuzzi was a relaxing spot to hang out at during the night for us since key west temperture this time of year is hot and night time was cooler.
Overall a very nice stay. We plan to come back again.

We spent the night there for our anniversary and were pleasantly upgraded to the honeymoon suite. It was a wonderful gem of a hotel. I think the whole hotel was redone 7 years ago and they did fabulous job. The rooms are luxurious, the pool area was nice, and the complimentary breakfast was good.
We will definitely come back.

We are having a wonderful time at the Orchid Key Inn. The pool area and grafted orchids are beautiful, but our room is spectacular! Although it’s small, it’s elegantly appointed with luxurious linens, beautiful furniture and tons of special touches. Cindy gave us great recommendations for tours and restaurants and the bartenders have been very helpful and kind. Every attention to detail makes this a great place to vacation.

Great look, great style, GREAT location.

I love this hotel! What a complete gem. The hospitality is so good that they should teach others in the industry. The office staff are so very friendly, accommodating and gracious. The rooms are exactly as shown in the pictures-​modern, updated, clean. I won’t stay anywhere else in Key West! I can’t wait to come back.

Can’t say enough good things about our stay at this boutique hotel. Brandon was our very helpful go to concierge for places to try. All the staff was great. An included continental breakfast in the: am and snack at happy hour to include free beer/​wine (offers a $mall full bar as well), was a nice touch and worth it considering eating out will add up. Comfy small rooms with a retro feel. Small pool with hot tub. At the end of the island opposite the Mallory square tourist shops and bars but all still within walking distance made this a very quiet stay. Will be our place for future stays with discounts given for repeat customers.

We cannot say enough good things about this GEM. The location is top notch and the employees are of a 5 star hotel expectation. Not just the crew in the office but the cleaning crew as well. The rooms are a little on the smaller side but I doubt you’ll find any rooms any cleaner than at The Orchid Key Inn.
We loved this place so much… we already have our reservations for our next trip. Brandon and Kim, see you guys soon!

I would have given this place a 5 star if our room had a tad more space. I know, I know… they had to upgrade the rooms and keep the structural integrity of the old building intact.
The location is perfect; just on the edge of the quiet end of and the «action» end of Duval Street. Five Guys is across the street. CVS is a block away.
All rooms are ground level for easy access. The commode’s height in room 116 was compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act, I believe. We will ask for a Junior suite next time and leave the smaller standard rooms for young adults. Seems the bigger rooms have the least appealing view though (not poolside). I love the poolside view of room 116. However, I will forgo the view and ask for a none-​poolside junior suite next time. Call and ask for Brandon if you need assistance. He works daily except on Mondays.
The indoor bar area is small but the bartenders do some special things with drinking spirits. The space is irrelevant unless the weather is unpleasant as there is plenty of poolside space just outside the bar’s door jam.
There is an array for breakfast (fruit, boiled eggs, breads (sweet & plain, yogurt and juices); everything except meat. The coffee is very good medium strength java for drinkers like me, not Starbucks strong (thank GAWD).
The TV in our room did not have an HDMI connection even though the TV is a flat screen. That means your Apple TV device, for example, will not work so no iPad, iphone, or Mac mirroring. WiFi in our room and outside was full up. We were able to watch a WNBA game poolside via an iPad App with no lag time.
Ask the pleasant desk clerks for discount coupons before you venture out. They will also suggestion activities if you run out of ideas.

Made reservation in march, for july. cc info given and used trip advisor discount. Called day of arrival and they did not have me scheduled. I needed a confirmation number. He didnt even try to help, or understand how upset i was because i made it months in advance. I was to blame. Really? They have a sister hotel he could have suggested… but no. Crappy customer service buddy. Now we are stranded for our first vacay in 3 years. Thanks.

Puttin’ on the Ritz
Before the Interstates, in the heyday of Route 66, jailbirds and deadbeats, runaways, itinerant preachers and adulterers, Wily Loman and the Fuller Brushman holed up in these one-​story, concrete-​block strips known as motels and less humbly, motor lodges. Little differentiated them beyond the patch of red neon script that said «vacancy» or «full.» Key West had these places. One was the Key Lodge, located barely visibly in the center of the old town, at the corner of Truman Avenue, which is also US 1, and Duval Street, the town’s busiest street and one best known for open air bars. («A blind chimp could find a bar on Duval,» a T-​shirt says.)
The old Key Lodge has climbed some notches in caché. It is now the Orchid Key Inn. In comfort and décor, It’s as ritzy as any big city Ritz. Four years ago, new owners, while heeding the dictates of historic preservationists, gutted the place and wrapped it in Art Deco angles and curves. A largely rectangular, dramatically lighted pool and a hot tub have replaced the uninviting old kidney model. Close to the pool and the lobby, the owners have installed a round, top-​hat-​shaped structure for the bar. Along the counter, a generous and free continental breakfast buffet is laid out for guests to bring to brown wicker tables surrounding the pool.
With only the four years of use, the Orchid Key Inn’s 24 rooms are flawless in function and style, with no obvious expense spared for high-​end plumbing fixtures, tiling in the showers, granite counters for the sink and the bedroom, the linens, the lighting and the electronics, which include 42-​inch flat-​screen TVs and Internet connections. The shower vent sucks all the moisture before it fogs the mirror. All the rooms come with a safe, a mini refrigerator, coffee-​making gear, two white cotton robes to wear back from the pool and two potted orchids, one in the bathroom, one in the bedroom. They’re fake but authentic enough to look and feel like you should water them.
Nevertheless, travelers should be alert in choosing a room. There’s nothing here for kids. Six rooms, leading from Duval to the lobby, are commodious suites but they open onto a small parking lot. For location, the 13 rooms opening onto the pool area are infinitely more inviting – but much smaller. To accommodate the American preference for gargantuan beds while respecting the motel’s structural origins, the owners could not expand the rooms. Instead they have stuffed them with furniture and fixtures that, good as they are, leave little room to relax other than on the bed.
Your rule of thumb for booking a room might be your weight, The space in our room, No. 118, was too tight for a guest weighing more than 300 pounds or for a couple like us weighing a combined 300 pounds. If that’s not you, opt for a suite and swallow the view. Guests who have work to do in a room, like telecommuting on a laptop, could do the same. The standard rooms do not have chairs. To work at a laptop, you sprawl on the bed or sit on the room’s one stool.
Also, guests of any dimension, certainly any who rely on a room to relax in or read might check the weather forecast for the time of their visit. Other than the small lobby and tiny bar, there’s no place to flee from the rain. And then, Key West’s more characteristically pleasant weather raises an issue for guests who covet solitude and would read by the pool. Management soaks the air with piped-​in music, morning to night, some of it pulsating, loud and disruptive. So people who recoil at radios on the beach will recoil here.
In providing the inn’s many good features, management has determined that its focus on luxe lets it charge roughly $ 300 a night. They got away with it with us. Whatever our quibbles, we felt we got our money’s worth.

First time staying here was last summer… and yes, this place looks like a motel from the outside (cheesy neon lights included) but inside was wonderful! The rooms are fresh, contemporary & really nice — like a minisuite. The living room area had a couch and loveseat, coffee table, large flat screen tv and minifridge. The bedroom had a king bed & large flat screen tv, dresser/​mirror & plenty of closet space. The hallway separating the bedroom & living area hosts the bathroom, which was split into a shower on one side of the hall and toilet room on the other side with lotion/​shampoo/​conditioner from Bath & Body Works. Central AC was nice & cold too.
The room was immaculate with nice lighting and very quiet — you couldn’t hear the party on Duval from here even though it was right outside your door. The property has a pool and jacuzzi, and breakfast is served on the patio bar (coffee, juice, tea, hard boiled eggs, bagels, pastries, cereal, fruit) though it’s only avail. during the early morning hours. There is a small parking lot so you can ditch your car & walk or bike around town for the rest of your stay. Be sure to check out the complimentary happy hour at another of their properties just around the corner w/​wine & cheese, beer & veggie platters. All you can drink, a nice start to my holiday.
