Village of Key Biscayne

There’s not much to Key Biscayne except snobby people and a substandard beach. Key Biscayne is not a private island, anyone can pay the $ 1.75 toll and enter the island. As you cross the monstrous bridge into Key Biscayne, you get a beautiful view of Downtown Miami and you can park along the sides of the highway and take pictures. In order to get to the village, you continue driving on Rickenbacker Causeway that eventually becomes Crandon Blvd. There are public beaches on Key Biscayne and it gets packed on weekends and holidays so plan on getting there early because the traffic is a nightmare.
Once you get to the village of KB, the dining options are extremely limited and not very good in my opinion. There is a small Cuban café called Oasis that serves typical Cuban food. There are a few Argentinian restaurants as well as a few small cafes that serve breakfast and lunch. Be prepared to pay a premium for food just because of its location, they take advantage of the rich people living on the key.
The Ritz Carlton is the only hotel on Key Biscayne and if you’re not willing to pay over $ 300 a night, stay in Miami. The Ritz is beachside and the beach is nothing to write home about. The beach is very tiny and not very clean. There is seaweed everywhere and the actual beach is very narrow. At the end of Key Biscayne, there is a lighthouse along with a tiny beach which again, does not compare to Miami Beach.
If you plan on living here, do your homework because unless you are swimming in money, it will be difficult to afford. Million dollar homes and apartments surround this tiny village. I really don’t see the draw to living here because there’s not much to do. Don’t break the speed limit because the police that patrol KB are very strict and will stop you in a heartbeat for going over the speed limit. If you are looking for beautiful beaches and gourmet food options, stay in Miami!

I’m not going to lie, I was a little disappointed by Key Biscayne. I was told that it was a «jewel» that the tourists hadn’t found yet, and I should go to the beach there instead of in South Beach where I was staying.
I’m sorry to say that South Beach was loads better. The village had very little in the way of food/​entertainment. The actual park/​beach was ridiculously overcrowded, full of trash (of the garbage variety and the people variety).
I guess if you live in Miami its an OK park. The lighthouse was cool. But if you’re looking to lay in the sun and swim in the ocean, South Beach is worlds better.

always a raucous symphony,
giant toads hop across pseudo coral paths,

feel that twinge of lonely unearthly, fugue state.
during morning ablutions
when the mud hens waddle,
heliconia flaunts her showy blooms,
there is a wafting of cortadito and and cuban toast,
an untousling of the landscaping militia.
the village green is so verdant
that one might believe it to be that imposter
astroturf, until upon closer inspection
it is found to be the real mccoy.
the librarians feed the menagerie of
ducks and terrapins before
bookworms take residence in
the hallowed land of tomes.
the staghorn finds solace
in the lantern trees embrace.
in the swampy heat of midday
iguanas sun unnoticed
by tennis racquet wielders
loafer polo shirted tanned
buffed and coiffed and polished.
butterflies and skippers
dot the sky like
flowers in flight.
gliding dragonflies propel
unseen by the metallic sheen of
corvetted and jaguared conveyances,
some leaving this sanctuary
past the sea grapes,
past the banyan, the royal palms
beribboned with turquoise water and white sands.

Dear Village of Key Biscayne,
You are truly an amazing paradise for those who can afford to call this home. An island just southeast of Miami, you can be reached via the Toll Road Rickenbacker Causeway. It’s $ 1.50 to access your beauty, so readers take note.
The island is quiet and laid back, with your own vibe to it. I swear that somewhere along the lines, someone sold their soul, because it, HONESTLY, hardly ever rains here. The weather always seems to be perfect, the sun shining, the birds chirping, and the nannies roaming around with the children. Truly, a paradise on earth.
There’s the Village Community Center, which offers activities for the young and old. There’s the Yacht Club for nice dinners and a boat ride. The Ritz Carlton of the Key has a great outdoor rum bar that always has something happening. There’s definitely not a lack of activities when stranded out of the mainland!
