Donut Gallery Diner

The Donut Gallery is a CLASSIC! Diner food at its best and with fast and friendly service. The Ted’s Special is the bomb as is everything else in this place. And you can’t beat the price, compared to anywhere on the Key and probably the rest of Miami. Key Biscayne is a beautiful paradise and the Donut Gallery is awesome reminder of the laid back beach lifestyle of the Island. Frequented by cool mix of wealthy South Americans, famous stars (Key residents like Andy Garcia are regulars), European snow birds, and Key Rats (the local term for old school Key Biscayne residents), you’ll enjoy the company as much as the homestyle food. They have added fresh squeezed orange juice and cuban coffee to the menu and have a new cook that is solid. It’s worth the drive over the beautiful bridges to Key Biscayne, having breakfast and spend the day at Bill Baggs Park or Crandon Beach. Truly paradise.

Great place. I was told from friends to try it. We drove 45 minutes to Key Biscayne. It was definitely worth the drive. They been in business for 40 years and I see why. People are very friendly. Every one that walks in are greet by their names it looks like those customers eat at the restaurant every day. We will for sure come back. Even my kids left pleased without a complain. That is very rare.

Iconic diner once frequented by KB’s resident, President Nixon and his Secret Service. No more donuts. But there’s now Cuban coffee, freshly squeezed oranges, and full American breakfasts. The young, unaccompanied skateboarders next to us wisely spent their breakfast money on pancakes & vanilla shakes. I prefer the counter seating: Even the tall, glamorous couple on the other side of me liked the well worn step between the counter and floor to prop one’s feet. Also, there’s a convenient hook for a purse or murse, said the grill cook. Ie, for the lady’s bag or a man purse. Fastest service this side of NYC.

CASH ONLY! It’s an ok place, the staff was nice. The food was mediocre but the orange juice machine was awesome!. I gave it three stars because they don’t take credit cards and they don’t use gloves when preparing the food.

Coffee good, people friendly. Don’t get the world famous Ted’s breakfast… really greasy and cheese tastes like Velveeta.

My friend and I found ourselves so bored with brunch choices in our C. Grove and South Beach hoods that we decided to head on over to Key Biscayne. We decided to see what the Donut Gallery had to offer after reading all the reviews.
Much to this NYers delight, it is indeed a diner! For real diner. Now as folk mention, it’s tiiiiiiiiiiny. In fact as you’re circling that roundabout by the church looking for it, you’ll be surprised to find it. FYI, it’s tucked away in the strip mall sort of adjacent from the church roundabout.
I ordered a veggie burger with lettuce, onions and an egg on top. Love an egg. Tasty and wonderful. My coffee was sort of weak and overall not very good. Diner cawfee should be good. That said I was enjoying the authentic as is vibe of the place so much, I didn’t care.
My friend ordered a poached egg and asked for a side of peanut butter for her toast. She was given a spoon with a fantastically huge scoop of PB… it was awesome. The family run, no frills scene was refreshing and very welcomed. It was so worth an afternoon away from South Beach, felt like being in the normal world. After our meal, we hit the neighboring Golden Hog… review to follow!

Fantastic little hole in the wall!!! Good food, great friendly service!!! There are lots of choices. Good for families but not a lot of seating.

BRING CASH! No credit cards are accepted here! Such a cute Mom and Pop Dinner, the food was delicious and is prepared right In front of you. The restaurant is tiny so if you are coming with a big group you might want to come early. The staff was very attentive and friendly. Price was reasonable for the amount of food you were served

Awesome! Old school diner! Super friendly lady behind the counter… lady next to us had been going their everyday since 1972 so you what kinda place it is… tradition. We got tuna melt because the lady did. Back tomorrow for breakfast!!! Cash only but have an ATM there. Great place ! Tiny so don’t take a huge group

This place was awesome. It was a true diner experience. We are staying at the Ritz Carlton but will forego those fancy expensive restaurants to eat breakfast here. It’s cheap, it’s loud but it’s great. Food is cooked to order and served quickly. Coffee is perfect. Loved it!

Donut Gallery is a family owned restaurant and has been a staple of Key Biscayne life since I was born (and far before from my understanding). I grew up on Key Biscayne and the quick and tasty breakfast from Donut Gallery is hard to beat in a pinch — especially before a beach day.
My personal favorite is the Ted Special (Bacon, Ham, Cheese, Tomato and Egg, served open face on an English muffin) with hash browns and a side of banana chocolate chip pancakes.
They are pricey, but it is par for the course in Key Biscayne and still cheaper than any of the other breakfast options on the island. Their service is fast and you’ll feel like part of the family while you sit on one of the stools and look over the photos on the wall.
One more thing to mention, they are CASH ONLY but do have an ATM on-​site.

Down from Maryland and always looking for a great diner. Classic counter with friendly people working it. Had the teds special and it was fantastic. ESP after a nice 6 mile run! French toast stuffed with bacon ham two eggs cheese and tomato! Sounded over the top and it was! Fresh oj was great. Skip the hash browns.

If you want good food and a friendly & proper Service then visit this Place. It’s just great! The location isnt the newest and biggest but its clean and relaxed.

DG is an interesting place to say the least. The staff here is very attentive despite the fact that they seem to be moving 200 mph within the constricted confines of the tiny diner. As far as the food, the place offers your standard diner selection. By far the star of the show was their Zumex natural orange juice maker which diligently squeezes out the finest cup of Gold liquid ever to hit human lips. Besides that nothing was exceptional and the description many reviewers used of «no-​frills» is spot on. While this place is on the more expensive side as far as diners are concerned, it is probably the most affordable place to grab a bite in Key Biscayne.

Was on the fence between two and three stars. Old fashion diner, counter and a few two top tables. I had the key biscayne, two eggs, two pancakes, two sausage patties. Eggs ok, sausage a little dry, but the pancakes did not come w the eggs and it took some effort to flag someone down. Syrup was log cabin/​aunt jemima or something w/​o a lot of flavor. The high point was the delicious fresh squeezed oj. So if you’re on the key it’s ok, but don’t go out of your way.

We ended up here early on a Saturday morning looking for a no-​frills breakfast, and that’s what we got. Thankfully some seats were open along the wall so my party split up into pairs which wasn’t too big of a deal as you can easily spin around on your stool to talk to those behind you.
They were ready to take our order immediately and the food came out pretty fast too. Whether you are looking for pancakes, eggs, french toast, a sandwich or more, they have a versatile menu that can fit your breakfast needs.
It’s a different kind of dining experience that is all but lost in the Miami area. It seemed a little pricey for what it is but it appears many are willing to bite the bullet and visit this hole-​in-​the-​wall diner as a start to their morning!

While visiting the Key and after recently reading a very good review of this diner in the Miami Herald we chose to visit the diner for breakfast @10 a.m. on 7÷31÷12. Unfortunately, a small crew was working with a chipping hammer on the walkway outside the diner when we arrived and the noise inside and out was unbearable. We went in anyway and sat down at the counter. The place is minuscule with seating at the counter and a few tiny wall-​mounted tabletops, each with room for a couple of patrons. The mica used for the counter/​table tops must date from the 60’s and is quite ugly.
In attendance were 3 – 4 ladies and one older man, all were welcoming. Being that the article mentioned the original owner was Cuban and that now the son was running the diner, my husband asked for a café con leche only to be told they did not sell café con leche but that he could have American coffee with lots of milk… a total abomination for anyone who’s used to café con leche. We’ve never heard of a diner run by a Cuban family that doesn’t offer Cuban coffee or café con leche, this is a first for us.
We found the prices on the breakfast menu extremely high but went ahead and ordered anyway since we were already there. Another writer was correct, breakfast at the Ritz-​Carlton would have run the two of us over $ 60.00, but it would have been $ 60.00 well spent. The almost $ 20.00 we spent at this diner was wasted money. We chose what we felt was the least expensive option: $ 8 for a plate of one egg, 2 strips of bacon, grits and 3 pancakes. They charged separately for one cup of American coffee. At $ 8.00 for breakfast, one would expect coffee to be included!
The egg and bacon were OK, the grits were watery, without a grain of salt and with a huge pat of margarine melting on top; we immediately removed the margarine. The pancakes, on a separate plate, also had a huge pat of melting margarine on top which we also proceeded to remove. The imitation maple syrup sits on the counter in a very large plastic container. At these prices, butter should be offered instead of margarine.
Based on the longevity of the diner and the very high prices being charged, the owner should: (1) take some pride in the diner, show concern for his patrons and update the diner while using features that will keep it in whatever era he wants to keep it in (2) replace the dishwasher which has cruddy black mold on the door which was opened in front of us numerous times while the steam hit our area as we tried to eat (3) ask the waitress who speaks perfect English and who appears to be Puerto Rican to tone it down a bit… the place is too small for her loudness (4) get with it and offer Cuban staples such as pastelitos, Cuban coffee and café con leche (5) taste those grits and perhaps someone will season them correctly and make them creamy… not soup of grits.
My husband and I, after experiencing the diner today, could not believe the 4 and 5 stars and glowing reviews awarded to this diner in Unilocal by many patrons nor the Miami Herald review. Have you people lost your marbles? Charm? Where was the charm hiding? A little expensive? It’s outrageously expensive for what it is and for what it offers. It’s old, run-​down, depressing, overpriced and the food stinks. We will never visit this diner again and couldn’t wait to leave. This is why one cannot believe every review one reads.
